General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: October 12, 2010, 02:30:52 AM »

I'll stick to celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, the 4th of July, and other federally recognized holidays (like my birthday :P)... not pointless days like National No Swearing Day or National Stick Your **** in a Toaster Day.

Happy National Coming Out Day as well
Really? No offense to gay people but how retarded. There's no National Let Me Kiss My First Girl Day, or National Lose your Virginity Day is there???
As far as I know, it was founded in 1988 to raise awareness of the LGBT community and LGBT rights movement. That's all it really is.

Happy Columbus Day, everyone!  Yeah, I know it doesn't really feel like a holiday even though it is one of the ten officially recognized by the government every year.  I was even working today regardless, but I do get holiday pay for it.

Its South of the Market Patrick
Thanks.  I can never keep all these titles and artist names straight.  I end up remembering songs from memory of the rhythms and melodies that I've heard.
Happy National Coming Out Day as well

their shifts are usually 8 hours, which consist of 3-4 hours on air, 4-5 behind the scenes.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

The only thing they're using the video wall for now is the news and show title graphics.

I bet whoever wrote the check for that big video wall is probably kicking himself at least a little now... assuming he's still with the company.
I think that's how the video wall should have been used for to begin with, like CNN does. It's incredibly blurry for weather graphics and radar graphics and such. I think, assuming this is a permanent decision, that they finally realized this after two years.

You're right, Jesse. When I saw WC tonight, I could not believe how clear the weather graphics looked on the chroma key as compared to the video wall. If this is a permanent change, I certainly don't have a problem with it. Aren't some graphics still "unsafe" to fit on the chroma key, though?
Yes, but as long as they continue to do the window/letterboxing that they're doing on the chromakey, then all should actually be well :-)

Guys, please, Martin specifically said not to count the OCM layoffs as a part of judging TWC in this thread. :hammer:

How do you all think they are doing (OCM choices aside)?

I know we all dislike the OCM situation, but that's not really what we're talking about in this thread. ;)

OCMs are literally the "human face" of the channel, so, instructions aside, it is just hard to not focus on this issue.
Then how about doing everyone a favor and stick to ONE THREAD for these views? A lot of people here are getting sick and tired of seeing the same stuff spread to every single thread on these forums. I would recommend starting a separate thread JUST FOR THIS TOPIC ALONE. Just my two cents. :smoke2: [/rant]

TWC Today News / Re: Site News
« on: October 08, 2010, 11:26:18 PM »

I've turned the main site's logo in to translucent reflective glass. It looks a lot better on the main page with a blue background, but it's live. I won't be implementing this on the forums, if you were wondering.

thoughts?

TWC's HD LDL has been stuck all morning. Wonder when TWC will fix it.

I am a midget. I'm 15, and I'm only 5'5". That still makes me taller than most of my family, though.
Nah. Just be glad you're not Snooki, who, if my memory serves me well, is 4'9"
Who's Snooki?
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of Jersey Shore on MTV. Surely you've heard of the mockery of her.

I wanna cookie! But I don't know what to find.
That's the point. Once you find it, you get a cookie. It's somewhere on this domain though, site or forumwise so good luck!

I guess they are using the Chroma key to make it easier to see the weather on tv. It does help since the video wall isn't very bright anymore, not saying it ever was.
Between the video wall having a blue tint, having the brightness go funky live on air, having the video wall backlights get darker and darker, the video wall borders (all having died at some point in time), having the center panel die at one point, I could go on, I'm surprised they're still using it for weather presentations. Just my opinion.

However, I will admit. I'm glad they're being smart about it and windowboxing their graphics on the chromakey as most of their graphics are not 4:3 safe.

EDIT [9:14am]: it seems Kelly Cass has acknowledged it, and her vague wording makes me believe this seems to be a longer term solution, as the video wall is still being used for non-weather presenting... It's like a major news network! lol ... link to facebook post
