Not sure if anyone's noticed but the TWC logo has been removed from Weatherscan.

Apparently TWC is using Celsius for now on? Can someone verify this as I have no access to TWC today.

Hmm... go back and re-read that last paragraph...

Local Forecast / Re: Smooth Jazz Return!

Here's Mildred's Attraction. If the trim hasn't taken effect yet, the LF starts at 1:47 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRbIbW4rgxQ
Awesome quality, minus the lag. I wonder how it sounds like on the IS2?
Yeah, the cable signal quality isn't great in my dorm. I'll get the IS2 clips uploaded tonight once I get home.

For some reason, I knew they were gonna play smooth Jazz today. Now if they yank it tomorrow, that's one helluva April Fools joke. Btw, can someone post an LF clip with The Gift, Mildred's Attraction, and Holding Hands?

I'm grabbing them from both the satellite feed in my dorm room and my IS2 at home. If they don't stop testing this afternoon, I'll probably have those clips.

if it's indeed an account created by TWC just to let normal viewers know of any programming changes brought on by severe weather, then this would be a great use of Twitter to warn viewers of a programming change

also if it is a Weather Channel official account (and if so it will get "Verified" check symbol on it's twitter page), then the logo looking weird and not right could be a hint of an impending logo change.

the current logo is now 10 and a half years old as it debut in the August 2005 relaunch of TWC and been the logo since then despite minor changes which are logo color changes.

plus i would mind it being the "Updated 2016" logo as they were due up for it anyway.

I can guarantee that's not a logo change. It's a fan made account with a logo made with the Calibri font with what looks like MSPaint. That's not to say it's not a good service but TWC isn't behind it.

In a monumentally stupid decision, TWC seems to have disabled straight passthrough of NWS warnings to the unit. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued just west of here and the ticker just says "a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for a portion of the viewing area. Remember if a severe thunderstorm threatens; take shelter indoors. Stay away from windows." The alert tone has been updated to match the IS2 while Cantore narrates the text. Why was this in any way necessary?

Just found this pic on TWC's Facebook page... :o

Anyone else seeing this new forecast map on their IS2?

Hmm... That's Louisville's IS2, which means it's close...

EDIT: Frankfort's IS2 is the same, unless this is the return of "flavors" and it won't air at :38 past. I'll check at :48 and :18 but this looks to be a Louisville-centric beta test.

That does seem odd. I haven't yet heard Jim on mine thanks to the quiet weather, though that might change tomorrow night. Not sure how good of a tuner clip I would get over my sling box, but I could try.

Weatherscan's had that narration for over 10 years now and I've had it on in the background a lot in that time, it's genuinely out of place to not hear the narration. I wonder if this means the beginning of narration of warnings too and perhaps a change in alert tone...

Y'know, I'm kind of curious to know why some units glitch during time change and then other units aren't affected by the time change. Does it depend on the cable headend?
Quite possibly could be due to age, even though I've seen more than one headend unit do this and it's been doing it for a few years. Even after new parts (last December) it's done this twice now (springing forward and falling back).

btw, I went to bed earlier on Saturday night but set my DVR, and on cue... time change problems like always. Starts only at 1am EST when the main window and bottom of the L-bar failed. Eventually, the whole background but the conditions ticker failed (1:02:02am EST). Finally failed out to the TWC SD feed at 1:02 EST, stayed there for a few seconds and went into full reboot. It returned to normal promptly at 1:03:03am.

I'll hopefully have a video up Friday night when I get back home. (I just checked it from my SlingPlayer today.)

This is just shocking. I haven't heard anything either. Ian Livingston from Capital Weather Gang just heard about it too.

EDIT: Ricky Matthews, weekend meteorologist at WCYB-TV in Martin's market told someone that he's "not really at liberty to disclose. Sorry." Said he found out around 3:30pm. That's gonna be it for now I guess.  :(

Interestingly, I just saw them promote Jim Cantore in South Carolina on ESPN College Gameday, with live video as well.

EDIT: oooooo, he's this week's "celebrity picker"

Viewing the satellite version we have on campus, I think the new sidebar update is perfect. National radar rotation with major airport delays much faster is well suited for the national feed.

The local version on the other hand... eh... it's a start. The radar and improved almanac are very welcome changes but, unlike the national feed, where the auxiliary segments were "top [rain/hail/wind/snow] reports", the local sidebar segments had much more value. Now, the LDL lacks such fundamental information as barometric pressure and, even more importantly, the dew point! Dew point is only the best measure of surface air moisture content and how humid it feels outside.

Obviously the best solution is to simply add this information to the segment rotation on the main LDL itself. Once TWC does that, they can address the gaping blank space to the right of the video window and under the ticker and the almost totally pointless static "today's top stories" box at the top right. It was useful when TWC had a rundown, but now it's just a waste.
