Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC's new Rival?
« on: April 01, 2011, 12:15:24 PM »
At launch, WeatherNation TV, which is headquartered in Denver Colorado, will offer a weather news format 24 hours a day that will not be interrupted by documentary, entertainment or reality programming, Norton says.

Sounds like a good deal!  Throw in localized forecasts like The Weather Channel has, and I'll certainly watch!
I second that! All I said when I saw this was, "Hey, look! A network that still talks about the weather! I want this NOW." :itsok:

I believe some of you have seen these on my facebook page before. I never taught about uploading them here at TWCC when. I went to The Weather Channel last year!.  :)
How were you allowed to visit TWC?
He knows someone who works there.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: 22842 not working?
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:03:44 PM »
Terribly sorry if this turns into a double post... but, due to this "reconfiguration" with Comcast, I was wondering if the STAR could have a few changes to compensate for the East Side/West Side balance. If it is not too much trouble, may the following changes be considered?
  • Change the reporting site on the forecasts to "Lansing Metro Area" instead of "Greater Lansing"
  • Add East Lansing to the LDL, so that the STAR can efficiently give people accurate information on the Eastern side of Lansing (East Lansing, Haslett, Okemos, etc.)
  • Add Mason to the 8-City list
  • Change Downtown Lansing on the LDL to Downtown, since the viewing area is much larger now
These changes should be sufficiant in giving more localized weather for viewers. But non the less, thank you very much for everything you do.

Comcast notified us that the East Lansing headend is being consolidated into one large Lansing headend. Sorry to say.
Dang, that stinks. But, thanks for the help STAR team

General Discussion / Re: Hurricane Machine

The only good "hurricane simulator" I have seen was at the Imagination Station in Toledo, Ohio. It was MUCH better than the ones in the malls. May I also add that when I went in the one at my local mall, it gained a lot of attention? :P

To follow up from Josh's post above, we shouldn't be dependent on just one source for energy.  Let me give you all some numbers I looked up to think about here:  70% of electricity in the United States comes from fossil fuels alone (coal, natural gas, and petroleum).  Meanwhile, about 90% of France's electricity comes from their own nuclear plants, hydro plants, and other renewable resources.  They don't have to rely on foreign sources nearly as much.  Why can't we be like that?

Anyway, regular unleaded gasoline is $3.26 per gallon in my area today.
Damn right! Nuclear is the way to go. Safe, clean and efficient. France even recycles the fuel rods they use in their plants.
Nuclear energy is amazing. It's just misunderstood...
Anyways... I've seen $3.60 earlier. I also have seen $3.52 in South Lansing.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / 22842 not working?
« on: March 05, 2011, 01:42:21 AM »
Hello STAR Team,
STAR 22842 (Comcast of East Lansing, MI) does not appear to be working. I have been getting the forecast from 22840 (Comcast of Lansing, MI) for the past few days... so I was curious as to what is going on. I'm starting to get confused because the conditions here can be pretty different from the ones in Lansing... so I can never get accurate information for the conditions.

Thanks!

$3.49 at the Okemos BP (Next to the interstate)
$3.39 at the Okemos Marathon (Next to the interstate)

Edit: And at that article, I have mixed opinions on it. Where as gas would cost us under a dollar again if we started to drill, I feel like it is not a good idea to drill because it may ruin our environment. Those wells can be pretty nasty (as far as I know). Economy wise, I am in support. But, because of the environment factor, I'm not sure. If they are clean and can keep them clean, I say we should go for it... and NOT sell it to other countries.
