I will not post any of my raw artwork due to past issues with my artwork being used by others and no credit given whatsoever. Sorry.

Also, as for the image you quoted, that was done in PS not ppt

It depends by the singal that the STB sends out into the tuner.. if you have a 4:3 picture on your tuner and it appears letterboxed, go ahead and leave it that way... however if it's stretched to 4:3, use a video editing program and make it 16:9, so that nothing looks distorted

I have to actually disagree with you on the coverage point you made Tavores.. I think the legacies are now actaully meant to serve large areas due to the usage of airports (one airport every 30 mile radius?), as the local obs lists on legacy STARs tend to list airports and or cities that are almost 40-50 miles away from the main serving area.. whilst the IS, on the other hand, uses HiRAD, which can give conditions at any given location specifically set up by that STAR, and maybe a cable headend uses one STAR per county (which is the case here, on our Brighthousenetworks system).

The 4000 was first manufactured in 1989 or 1990, while the Jr was first manufactured in 1993 or 1994.

You need component video connectors or HDMI to record in HD.. with those connectors, you will only get 480i quality.. and you would need to use an editor to make the video 16:9 ratio if thats all you can use as a recorder

I dont know if the Jr should be retired, but based on reading Eric's post, I will definitely agree that the 4000 should be retired.. it's hard for the STAR Team to make changes to the platform anyways (and the Junior), but the major reason I think the 4000 should be put into retirement because of it's video hardware.. eventually all 4000s will suffer through degradation (as us "fans" know it to be) if they haven't already, and it's sorta like Microsoft putting OS platforms into retirement.

As for the XL, though, I think it should stay.. unlike the 4000/Junior, the XL is not that hard to make remote changes to because of it's ethernet port (?), but it is also OS-ran, just like the IS. Though it does not display anything except an LF and ID anymore, it can at least do an LDL like the IS with having part of the LDL chopped off for the LDL ads, but without the fancy flares and animation..  And as for the squeezeback, I cannot see that being implemented, sadly..  :( The original sqeeuzeback seen from 2006-2009 (with the sunny background) never displayed local information on the XL, so why should the current one?

Local Forecast / Re: Has the L-bar been discontinued?
« on: August 29, 2011, 10:20:08 PM »
I saw the L bar here tonight it's been awhile since I watched TWC but I find it takes up too much room.

The HD feed has so much wasted space with the L-bar, but it's in good proportion, I think, on the SD feed.
The squeezeback on the HD feed is the exact same system that runs the one on the SD, however if you think about how HDTV was before 4:3 letterbox SD became more of a standard (Fox News, CNN, ESPN, etc), there was extra space to the left and right of the channel on their HD feed, respectively..

Saw an LF at 8:08AM PT. Looks like everything is back to normal

Everything is now back in working and correct order. Welcome back, longform.
Okay, but preemption is going on right now...

Yeah, I tend to get excited and upset at times when this happens too.. most of the time topics that are unlocked from 2007 or 2008 that havent been posted in for a very long time and or not recurring topics (eg General LF Discussion), are usually bumped by guests or members that make only one post here and never will return, which, like Ana said, can sometimes get a member excited based off its title, thinking its a new topic, potentially cause a flame war if admins arent around to prevent that, etc etc... <_<

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Jose
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:33:44 PM »
My question is: how on God's green earth did Jose form out of a system that NHC had consistently said had a near 0% chance of development? This storm doesn't deserve to be named at all, in my opinion.

A couple years ago there was a system (I can't remember its name).  When I went to bed that night, it had a 10% chance of development on the Gulf Coast of Florida.  In the morning it was a TS.

Meteorologists aren't looking into a crystal ball, they're basically making educated guesses.  Occasionally, things happen that defy explanation.   :dunno:
Claudette is what your thinking of more than likely, from 2009
