General Discussion / Re: Missing file Help!

The graphics you're speaking of are directly from Weather STAR units themselves and are to not be distributed unless exceptional permission is given either from the creator or The Weather Channel themselves. We as a fan site have had trouble in the past with distribution of official graphic files from TWC, so there probably won't be any distribution of files any further.

However, that doesn't mean you can't recreate them.

The song info is in the description (Frank Danna - "Caribbean Moon Light"), but I looked it up and couldn't find anything. Is this person using a different alias or is this song not available commercially?  :dunno:

It's on iTunes

Earlier today I asked TWC's Tech Support about Astoria's still-in-use IntelliSTAR 1, and this was the response that I received from Tony:

Quote
Jim - According to our records, Charter Astoria has already switched over to the I2 star back on 10/12 for the SD service.  The look of the local would not change much, the difference is very slight.

Tony F
Local on the 8's Support

So, it appears that Astoria does already have an IS2, but for some strange reason, I'm still seeing the IS1 feed where I am, across the river in Pacific County.  I'm guessing maybe Charter hasn't switched to the IS2 feed up here yet, but they have already for the viewers down in Astoria and neighboring Seaside. :dunno:
Great to see Tony Fulkerson's still there on the STAR team

You should probably email him back and let him know of your exact city/locale. Chances are, they feed the same STAR to your area as Astoria proper, but there might be a different feed as well to your city.

TWC Today News / Re: Martin's passing and the future of TWC Today

I'm also here as well. Seeing that a lot of us are here and willing to keep the site's legacy going, then we should at least be able to have a community effort to get a lot more content up (especially during those years of like 2009-2011 when a lot of us were still around).

May Martin rest in peace though. I'm still at a loss of words myself. :(

This is sad news... I actually got to meet Martin four years ago on a roadtrip I took to Norfolk and we had such a great time meeting up. RIP.

I heard about this on Monday.
Unfortunately the merge is complete, and had been for about a month now.

When I first came here, I was still in middle school about to enter 8th grade. Now I'm graduated from high school and into my second year of college. So yeah a lot had changed for me these past seven years for sure!

Also, like many others here, I cannot stand the direction TWC has gone into. I've moved on and away from TWC and onto other interests such as anime, Pokémon, and maybe a little Super Smash Bros? :P

It's great to see a lot of older members still around! :)

You know what I found to be useless? The IS2jr., I mean really what the heck was the point of making this STAR unit? :dunno: If TWC's long term plan was to have the IS2 on both SD/HD feeds for all cable headends, why waste time making/implementing another STAR when they could have just upgraded the legacy STARs to IntelliStars for the time being.

I guess it's just one of those dumb things I can never seem to understand about TV networks.
It's already been mentioned, but it really has to do with efficiency in costs. Not only that, but probably power and bandwidth as well. Also, the IntelliStar is probably most definitely not manufactured anymore (and it's probably been this way even since before WATT and/or the legacy STAR shutoff), so that's why headends aren't "upgrading" to IntelliStars.

So I have an interesting conundrum.

IStar 26820 is gone.  The SD channel is now letterboxed widescreen with the L-bar (literally useless information) and the Locals with Jim C.'s voice.  Great!

The HD channel still has no local.  What gives (and please don't say IStar 2 Jr or whatever that is)?
This was talked about a few pages back, but your headend probably has an IntelliStar 2 XD hooked up. It's a newer-model IS2 that is capable of sending out both an HD and SD signal and aesthetically has subtle differences from the original IS2.
