Small update from this week:
Still working on improving the CINE website, and also re-worked some back end security modules.

Also, Kelby has been volunteering some time by providing some graphics assistance.

New CINE interface is great

Looks great! Very excited to use it.

Thank you! Looking forward to releasing it in the coming weeks ahead!

Some updates for today..
-Previously the 36 Hour Narrative forecast was configured as the same NWS Zone as the Primary Observation site. Today I made a change that allows this to be set individually. Additionally, the title of this product can be set to the city name instead of using the original "National Weather Service". See image below..
-Began the process of remodeling the CINE interface. Created a folder-view on the left for easier configuration flow. More updates for this on the way.

This week has been busy, no not many updates.. Here are a few things I worked on today:

1. When your mouse passes over the emulator window, it will no longer display a coursor cross-hair.
2. When the computer processor is running high upon loading the emulator, the start-up process would get out of sync. This would normally be seen when the program is set to load on system boot. Fixed some timing issues in the init routines.
3. Changed "STAR ID" to "Local weather ID" for some back end changes to the configuration host.

Here is a view showcasing the emulator automatically loading on system boot with no user interaction directly addressing #2 above, and also showcasing #1 and #3.

General Discussion / Re: WeatherStar 4000+ BETA

I just wanted to add to the discussion. I know it has been a while since vbnyguy has been on this forum, he does have the source on a git repository.

Additionally, there is an issue/discussion board for furthering your communication with him:

Quick update from what I was working on yesterday..

Since the TWC maps are now 16:9 in proportion, instead of resizing into a 4:3 aspect, I have them in their native proportion. I have also updated a few of the products drop-shadow to reflect this change for the raised 3D look.

See attached image..

Can't wait to use it again! I've been a user since the beginning.
Brian, I cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work you've put into the emulator. I'm looking forward to being able to use this again.

Thank you for the kind words. Can't wait myself to open the doors again to let everyone back on board!

Small update for a busy Saturday..
-Added a local toggle option that allows the emulator to auto full-screen when started.
-Added a local toggle option that will hide the start-up progress as the emulator is initially starting.
-Added a hot-key to manually advance the current product frame to the next.
-Added a hot-key to enable/disable the auto frame advancer (great for when you want to display a particular frame, or you're getting that capture software ready!)

so how can i get the emulator, i requested a CINE account like a year ago and still haven't gotten feed back :(

Branden123,
Don't despair, I'm getting close on tightening up some loose ends apart of the new release. This is important so you have the best experience possible, and I am sure you wouldn't want it any other way either!

All others, I would like to assure you that while I am performing updates to our favorite Emulator, that I will provide my status on the project in a timely manner.

Thank you to everyone for your continued interest.

Just a brief update.
-I have corrected all of the changes that the NWS has made by utilizing Mixed-case lettering
-I renamed the Outdoor activity to Fall Outdoor activity.
-Created a new package for Spring/Summer Outdoor Activity, simply called: Outdoor Activity
-All maps sourced from TWC has been remapped to TWC's IBM counterpart version.
-Traffic Overview has been re-sourced from Yahoo (defunct) to Mapbox, and is looks amazing (thanks to Kelby). Traffic Incidents is also being re-sourced, I am between two different providers at the moment.
-Several bug fixes between everything.

Todo:
-Traffic Incidents (curate a provider)
-Repair the Airport package (curating a data provider)

Test installation on a Windows 10 x64 computer was mostly successful, only was missing an overlay file.

Questions/comments/criticisms are welcome!

It has been many years since the application has been updated, which is good because up until 2016, not much has changed for the source of weather information.

Since 2016, the NWS has re-located where the program has sourced current condition and forecast data. The NWS has also completed the Mixed-case lettering transition of its products. Also IBM has purchased The Weather Channel name and digital assets, in turn re-located the online maps, and modernized their appearance.

Internally, the development environment is ran on Windows XP since its inception in 2003, then moved to a virtual machine in 2009. In mid-2016, the hard drive which contained this virtual machine environment suffered a file system crash and lost a key snapshot file in the virtual disk chain. I have since been able to recover the environment in such a way that no work was lost in the process. I have also re-located this virtual machine to a location which does undergo a daily backup to a RAID array.

Also, the domain 'copper.yi.org' which was home to Weatherscan Local's management portal has changed as well.

Enough of the bad news.. Here's some good news.. The move of data to the new location of the NWS was very seamless. Updating the program to fetch the operational config from the proper domain was seamless as well. The change to Mixed-case lettering threw off one of the management portal's scripts, but was easily fixed.

Currently, in the development environment, the program is able to fetch and present Local Forecast information along with Radar and Satellite maps, respectively. All other products, which rely on a map from The Weather Channel need to be sourced again before being enabled in the management portal.

So, moving forward, the maps will need to be updated in the program. I would like to clean out old commented source-code, and source-code which is no longer utilized. I am hoping to get a new client installer available soon to get folks back up and running, and re-open the gates for new users.

I am also looking for mature feedback in regards to where YOU would like to see the Weatherscan Local project to go next (realistic expectations, please). Leave them in this thread. Even if you are a lurker on this forum, a simple   will suffice to signal your continued interest in further development.

Brian

Despite this being completely off topic... I'm sorry to disappoint.. I operate the server the site runs on, so the forum isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

When Martin passed, I moved the forum away from the hosting provider he paid for in Oct 2015 and transitioned all content to 'twctodayforums.com' ..

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic
« on: March 16, 2017, 03:21:08 PM »
I would hazard a guess that the radar feed on the sat/rad on Weatherscan wasn't even on purpose. TWC probably discontinued or replaced the old radar feed with a newer version and it just so happens that's the feed Weatherscan uses. If it was an intentional update they would have updated the precip legend. Weatherscan doesn't really get updates anymore which is another reason I think it wasn't an official update.

As the IS and IS2 utilize the same set of radar and satellite overlays, I would not be surprised if a change is coming soon for the IS2 which will include a radar/satellite display during the LF's, specifically if there isn't any precipitation that would be shown during the local radar product. My 2 cents..
