the 'neighborhood' theme, which was what my XL used is the only theme with a comcast logo.. i can't change that because i do not have the original background image, however, i did make a set of templates that allow you to create your own theme, all you need is a background image. with that, your logo will be the one that will show through instead of the comcast logo.

another thing, this is off topic. this conversation has nothing to do with my update to the emulator i made.

Latest Release Information / Emulator Update Release - January 2009
« on: February 04, 2009, 04:47:25 AM »
I have listened to your requests, and I have responded! (kind of)
Alot of people have been asking me to create a cleaner method to close the emulator, heres one:
Press the escape key!

Another thing, the default start up position has been moved from center screen to upper left. However, you CAN move the emulator around now! Use your arrow keys!

If you like the position you moved the emulator to, Press: s
This will save the current emulator position!

If for some reason the emulator is taking up too much screen real estate and you would like to minimize it, Press: n

There is now a Start bar icon to bring the emulator back to the front incase its minimized or burried behind piles of other windows!

Note: These buttons become available AFTER the emulator has downloaded its initial updates and moved onto main title screen.

If you would like this update, follow these instructions:

Quote
This is not a mandatory update (like no changes were made to the configuration server to require all users to take this change). To take advantage of this update:
-Login to CINE and goto "Downloads and Keys" from the left.
-Download January Update Pack 1, this is a .zip file
-Manually extract the contents to C:\wsxl

I am packing a new copy of "SetAffil.exe" because this change is an update to the locally stored data, which is simply your Affil ID and the saved screen coordinates.

Run SetAffil.exe, type your Affil ID, Save & Exit.. Now run the emulator and try the new keys after the emulator is finally in its running state.

Enjoy and throw some comments, please!

I still find it hard to believe Ryan Farish's music caused all this. I'm sure its someone who impersonated as him as the copyright holider. It's probably jimmy ruska
You know I wonder about that too.

i dont wana sound like an idiot but who is jimmy ruska and why would he cause a problem ?

Bug Reports / Re: Runtime Error
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:37:34 AM »
Well, I got good news and bad news.

The good news is, I did indeed get this to work... though not through the steps that cc posted. (No fault of his own; I had an epiphany and what I thought of worked.)

The bad news is, this demonstrates a flaw in your installer, and possibly even your program as a whole. :P

Here's the gist of things:
  • My main hard drive - where Windows is installed - is D:\ and not C:\. This becomes very important. Therefore, my WSXL installation is at D:\wsxl, not C:\wsxl.
  • Obviously, it would not run from D:\wsxl, providing the error mentioned. However, due to how oddly my system is set up, any USB stick I plug in is detected as the C:\ drive.
  • Long story short, I stuck a USB stick in, copied over my WSXL folder, ran from the stick. Bam. Instantly began to update, and ran perfectly afterward - from the USB stick.

So the gist of this is, it's TOO hardcoded. If the user does NOT have Windows - or rather, WSXL - on a drive that is their C:\ drive, the program simply will not run, and never will, for love, money, or bribery.

Only problem is, until you guys fix this, the only way I can run this program is to run it from a USB stick - unless someone knows how to change Windows drive letters without borking the whole system and requiring a new install. :P

this is a weird experience that your having.. the design of the program is made to be portable to so it can be in any directory on any drive and should work, simply in the event that a system drive is not on drive C, but is elsewhere.. although i do not have a system to test that situation. i am glad you did get the emulator running, but its not running in a fashion that i would say thats acceptible.

it runs 100% fine for me without a problem. it seems as though your potenitally exhibiting a permission problem.. because this seems to be a big issue stemming from the way the installer is installing the program, i will check to see if theres any other installers i can use to do the install that wont cause this problem.
Well, I'm no expert, but my educated guess (as I said earlier) is that it's spitting this error out because it's expecting some file to be there that isn't on a new install. For example:
  • My current, extended, forecast, local and marine folders are completely empty. The maps folders have some background graphics, but are otherwise devoid of content as well. Each of those folders has an "out" folder, which is completely empty. The only folders not empty are the main and icons folders.
  • The settings.ini only contains a blank space and then my CINE login. Is there supposed to be more in there?
I don't want to sound demanding, and I thank both you and Martin for this program, trust me. I want to get it to run as much as you do, so I do thank you both for your help and wish it was less frustrating for you both to track down. :P

I want you to try these things:
-Access the folder c:\wsxl from your explorer
-Right-Click the update.exe and run as administrator, that application. once its done to download and it starts the emulator, use task manager to kill the process (shows as wsxl.exe).
-Right-Click setaffil.exe and run as administrator, set your ID in there: DarkPulse .. then save and exit.
-Right-Click wsxl.exe and run as administrator

In the event your emulator needs to register again, I flushed the server stored key to allow your emulator to register again. Try that and let us know the progress.

Help and Support / Re: Something's seriously ****ed up...
« on: January 31, 2009, 04:17:00 AM »
Uninstalled the old version of the emulator, and installed the new one. Signed in to get my new key, got the key, and then entered it in the program. Then I get this error:

Code: [Select]
The name/key you entered does not appear to be valid. Please try again.
Tried running the C:\wsxl\wsxl.exe unregister thing, and it's not working. The [3] [2] [1] [ok] thing doesn't pop up, nor do any error messages.

My hardware fingerprint is BCF2-BE23 if you need that.

Thanks.
I'm actually getting that same problem now.

in the event a box doesnt show up when that command is ran, the emulator doesnt have a key stored. i did however correct a few issues regarding the missing "get a key" button, that can be fixed by running the "Manual Update" program.

as for issues regarding the 'index out of bounds' error for existing users, you NEED to go into your configuation site, select the packages you want to display in the emulator, then select "Build Now". The existing configuration table used in the previous emulator (which is what is still stored on the server for existing users) is invalid, thats why your getting the 'index out of bounds' error! You need to select your packages you wish to display, all other settings are previously stored.

if there are people still having problems, post the error your getting and your Affil ID and either Martin or I can check it out.

Sorry, didn't see that. But yes, I did rebuild my config, several times, and the error still occurs.

i checked one thing on the regional observations that you use for state college.. which may have produced that error, however everything else seems fine. it runs for me.. tell me how well it runs for you.. if your seeing a message about index out of bounds and your using windows vista, please tell us.
Changing State College to New York City had no effect, and still produced the error.

This system is running Windows XP SP3.

i was hoping to one day work on something similar to a jr emulator if i knew the rules that the thing ran by..  i was thinking of doing this one of two different ways.. one is either by using my xl emulator to show the data, and or use a hardware box  called x-bob from decade engineering to display the text
