General Discussion / Re: Straight Talk Wal-Mart
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:41:43 AM »
Disclaimer: I work at Walmart.

For what it is, Straight Talk is one of the better deals for wireless service out there. Unlimited talk and text, plus 3 GB full-speed data is pretty good for $45/month. If you compare that to AT&T or Verizon Prepaid, for example, you get a lot more full-speed data. IMO, their only downside is the customer service. They're owned by TracFone, and all of their tech support/customer service is overseas, many of which are difficult to understand. They all read from a script and will not budge if you have a problem. After dealing with many of the wireless companies on a daily basis, they're one of the more difficult companies to deal with.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Weatherscan City/Unit Changed?
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:58:19 PM »
Last Wednesday night-Thursday morning (December 10-11), the Weatherscan unit based in Chambersburg PA (ID 20778), which I had been receiving for many years here in Hanover, PA on Comcast channel 101 was down for at least 15 hours. It was presumably rebooted and was running fine as of Thursday afternoon.

Today, I come to find that I am now seeing the Harrisburg, PA-based Weatherscan here in Hanover. The Chambersburg unit wasn't exactly centered on Hanover, but did include forecasts and conditions for Hanover, as well as many other surrounding towns, which the Chambersburg unit presumably covered. The current Weatherscan that I'm seeing from Harrisburg only includes forecasts and conditions for Harrisburg, which is over 30 miles away from Hanover and over 45 miles from Chambersburg. Is this a temporary change or is Comcast restructuring things?

General Discussion / Re: What Type of Cell Phone Do You Have?
« on: August 20, 2014, 09:44:16 PM »
I recently picked up a second Windows Phone to play around with: the Lumia 635. Nokia makes really nice hardware, even in the low-end. Windows Phone 8.1 is great; it's a really polished OS, it just needs some more app developers.

Random comment: finally saw the IS2 today in all its HD glory in Allentown, PA. The CC city is Allentown; LDL cities are Allentown, Reading, Willow Grove, and Flemington.

Google Nexus 5 and I love it :) Will never go back to the iPhone again.
Also have a Nexus 5. Great phone. Best I've ever  had.

Last CD I bought was "Idlewild" by They Might Be Giants. It's a compilation of their 1999-2013 music.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Kim Cunningham
« on: July 03, 2014, 02:03:42 AM »
According to Mark Elliot and based on what I've been seeing the past few days, Kim is now a Storm Specialist and a Hurricane Specialist.

OK, I think Kim does a good job and congrats to her, but why do we need more Storm/Hurricane specialists?  TWC seems to be going overboard with that title lately - pretty soon everyone is going to be referred to as a Storm Specialist or Hurricane Specialist.

I think the title is rightfully given to Kim. She has enough meteorological experience, especially with her background with the Hurricane Hunters, to be called a "specialist."

Local Forecast / Re: Satellite LF Sightings

Satellite LF at 1:58 AM ET.

Wow, it feels weird posting about this. Haven't watched TWC in a while, especially enough to not see a STAR cue.

As of 9:28 AM ET, HiRAD still appears to be down on both my domestic and Weatherscan IntelliStar units. They're both missing random pieces of information.

HiRAD appears to be down right now. Weatherscan is using it's alternative observation site on the sidebar, and my domestic IntelliStar is showing blank current conditions, text forecast, and daypart screens.

Really, TWC?   These graphics scare me more than Friday the 13th!

Weather Channel SD and HD LOT8s with Friday the 13th graphics

To be fair, I actually kind of like that black cat background. Those random backgrounds kind of reminds me of what TWC did back around 1986-87 with the random backgrounds for the WeatherSTAR III. Ironically, I also have a real black cat as a pet.

This. I like what they're doing for all these holidays. It gives the LF a more personalized or homey feel.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Blooper Thread

Woah! Did anyone else see that major LOT8's blooper?
Umm, what happened? Doesn't help to say 'did anyone see that?' without explaining what 'that' is.
