Everything Else TWC / Re: New Graphics

For whatever reason, the audio went silent for SD viewers in the middle of the 4:28 PM EST local forecast... and following the LF, 5 minutes of black. It took another minute for the blue LDL to come back on. After this, nothing else happened. Strangely, the HD feed was fine. I wonder if this could be related in any way...
I watched the 4:28 PM ET LF, and everything was alright for me. It's possible that your headend lost the TWC SD feed for a few minutes there.

As for the narration volume issues, I've always found the volume of the XL's narration to be a bit harsh, and this will be magnified if the volume of the audio feed coming into the XL is a bit low.

The DirecTV IntelliStar LDL is still not working.

The DirecTV LF app "GET LOCAL WEATHER NOW/CLEAR" bar is now at the right top corner of the screen.

The LDL appears to be broken right now, at least on the DirecTV IS. At 6:40 PM ET, the bottom part of the LDL slid in, and then it disappeared right away.

Haven't updated this in a while. Back in December, I got my mom's old 2000 Pontiac Grand Am after she got a new car (2006 Pontiac G6).
What happened to your Neon?
We traded it in for my mom's G6.

If you do it right the first time, you'll have no need to edit text boxes. <_< And that's being worked on for version 4 if I read some of the forum posts correctly.
That's good that they're working on it. I remember back around 2005 or 2006 and trying out Paint.NET and that was my biggest gripe back then, I recently tried the latest version and it still wasn't there. I'll have to reevaluate it when they add that feature.

Edit 2: Fixed the VCR. I dropped it a few times from about a foot onto carpet. I guess something was knocked out place a few months ago when I was reorganizing my bookcase, and I just knocked it back into place. Don't you just love mechanical recording technology?!
LOL, you fixed the VCR by just dropping the thing?
Yep.

Nice, my VCR won't let me program the correct date. It won't let me enter a two-digit year starting with a "1." So instead of entering 2010, I had to enter in 1999 for the dates to align properly with this year.

Edit: and now the VCR won't even let me read a tape. I put a tape in, and the VCR makes an unusual noise, and then it shuts off. The number "4" is lit up and blinking on the display.

I honestly can't stand Paint.NET. Seriously, what kind of graphics editing program doesn't allow you to edit text boxes? The GIMP is so much better, IMO, if you take the time to learn the program.

Jen Carfagno, in the meltdown outfit, appeared for about 30 seconds at 2:30 PM ET in front of the key wall for an apparent Chile Earthquake update, which never materialized. They kept adjusting the height of the camera at the wall, like they couldn't quite figure out what they were doing.

Edit: also, no LDL now during Storm Stories.

Edit: Another update at 3:00 PM ET with Carfagno and Dr. Lyons. Also, Jen isn't wearing the meltdown outfit, but something similar; it looked close. :P

There are a few snags that I've noted:
  • I have to use Avast 4.8 instead of 5.0, because the auto update on 5.0 doesn't work on 2008 R2 without modifying some files.
  • GRLevel3 doesn't seem to work. It crashes every time on launch.
  • I can't import any into Movie Maker 6.0; may have to try 2.6.

Edit, Movie Maker 2.6 didn't work. Not surprisingly I had the same problem I had with Windows 7 a while back. I guess I'll have to do video editing in a Virtual Machine.

Using a server OS as a workstation OS can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time.

Local Forecast / Re: WeatherSTAR 4000 & Jr. R.I.P.??
« on: February 26, 2010, 05:15:42 PM »
I can't take that blog post seriously for one second. The FCC doesn't care if the systems are "too low-tech." There are many local public access channels out there that are using technology that is much more "low-tech" than the 4000 and Jr. Plus there is absolutely no sources given on that blog. The last sentence makes me laugh:

Quote
When the 4000 and Junior are put out of service on March 3, The Weather Channel will not have any more weather and computer systems that came out in the 20th century.

Just a few lines up, the blogger stated that "About 60% of the 4000 systems in the country were replaced with the Weatherstar XL between 1999 and 2001." The blogger acknowledges that the XL came out in 1999, and then contradicts that in the last paragraph.

Fail.
