Fixed the PS2! Just cleaned the laser and adjusted some of the small parts around the laser drive mechanism.

Picked up a PlayStation 2 at a yard sale this morning for $5. The system powers on, but it won't read any disks. The optical drive is making a loud clicking noise. Looks like the laser drive mechanism may be striped out. :hmm:

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

The 9 PM ET hour of Weather Center actually has a sponsor (Wheaties Fuel) in the LDL. Its the first time I've seen a sponsored show in quite a while.

I am a bit surprised but when TWC charges outrageous amounts for its programming, something close to 8 bucks a subscriber and want more.... well these things happen. More then likely DISH is the one during severe weather thats gets bitched at when TWC fails to carry local weather programming since they have no STAR.

$8 per subscriber? This article says it's $0.11 per subscriber per month, which is $1.32 per year, and apparently that's pretty low for a cable network.

Hmm guess I was wrong. I was told that a while back for cable subs with a star

I suppose they could have different subscriber rates based on whether a local STAR is installed or not. Maybe just a base TWC subscription with no local STAR (satellite like Dish and DirecTV, or AT&T U-verse) is cheaper than those providers who choose to carry a local STAR.

Something tells me DirecTV could follow down this same path because the channel isn't doing what it's made for. But after all, viewers' LF wishes came true back on September 25, 2008.
I doubt it will happen with DirecTV. TWC and DirecTV wouldn't have spent a ton of time and money developing the DirecTV LF app for it to all go down the drain two years later.

Seems that they forgot to playback the 3:24 AM ET segment. It was all static.

Contributions / Re: Weatherstar Jr, anyone?

Yeah, but apparently his apartment complex also has a TWC feed with a Junior on it in addition to the DISH feed.
I don't believe that at all. A few reasons include...
  • The Junior requires a raw TWC data/video feed, which is fed into a IRD or VideoCipher.
  • I don't think Dish would allow them to demodulate their feed and re-modulate it. I think, personally, it would be considered tampering or a theft of service. (Don't hold me to this one...)
  • They can't run a TWC feed to a ton of different receivers.

It's likely that his apartment complex has it's own headend, which uses some Dish channels and some localized channels. All of the Dish channels come in and they're modulated down into the cable system along with local channels and TWC (with the Jr). My school does a similar thing. We have DirecTV service on our "cable system" along with a few local school-run channels. Nobody needs a DirecTV receiver because all of the channels on the cable system.

WWCH is being preempted at 11 PM ET. They're also still using the small L3rds/LDL for this hour.
