Local Forecast / New background for IntelliStar Weather Bulletins
« on: June 04, 2008, 01:46:42 PM »
Okay, it's not exactly a new background, but it appears to be a mix of the old Weather Bulletins background and the new one. Presumably it was updated in Monday's IntelliStar update.

OCMs & Personalities / Kim Perez moving to Day Planner?
« on: May 30, 2008, 06:58:54 AM »
Today at the end of First Outlook they mentioned that Kim Perez was moving to a different shift in the late mornings/early afternoon. It looks like she will be Jennifer Lopez's replacement on Day Planner/Weekend Now, and it means that Jennifer might be leaving TWC very soon.

General Discussion / Fuzzy Cable Channels
« on: May 18, 2008, 09:00:51 PM »
Anyone know why some cable channels seem to be so fuzzy? It seems just to be the channels at the beginning (2-~20) and channels at the end (~60-77). The ones in the middle are just fine. I've checked all the connections between the wall jack and my TV, and they're all tight. What can I do to fix this?

Local Forecast / Satellite LF Emergency Feed Question
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:17:14 AM »
I have a question about the satellite LF emergency feed (I hope somebody has an answer). Back last summer whenever they'd show the emergency feed for whatever reason, it would randomly flash black. From what I can tell it started sometime in June 2007 (my earliest video of it was on June 22nd) and continued through July or possibly August. Does anyone know when the flashing started or stopped or even what caused it?

BTW, here's a great example of that I'm talking about from July 3, 2007, courtesy Steve:

Thanks.

Programming and Graphics / When is Forecast Earth recorded?
« on: May 12, 2008, 01:07:13 AM »
Does anyone know when Forecast Earth each week is recorded? Because at the beginning of this weekend's show, they showed that surveillance video of the cars flying around in a tornado, which happened on Thursday, IIRC. If I had to guess, I would say the show was probably recorded on Friday.

General Discussion / What is the last thing you bought?
« on: May 09, 2008, 07:10:44 PM »
I though this might be an interesting thread. Just post the last thing that you bought, whether it be food, or a new shirt, or a movie, or whatever. Just keep music purchases in their own thread.

There is a similar thread at another forum that I visit, and it has been quite successful there, so I thought that I'd try it here.

I last bought a 12 foot coaxial cable and a coaxial splitter at Ollie's for $3.08. B)

OCMs & Personalities / Theory regarding the recent OCM realignments
« on: May 09, 2008, 04:47:50 PM »
Okay, this may sound a bit far-fetched but hear me out on this... I believe the reason we've been having more same-sex OCM pairings on air is all funneling from the Bob Stokes incident. TWC is concerned that sexual harassment could happen again, and since it is a lot less likely to happen between two OCMs or the same sex, they're moving around the OCMs around so that there will be less male-female OCM pairings on the schedule.

Oh boy, here we go. I just got this email in my inbox:

So it doesn't seem that I am in trouble, but they're just going to watch over my video and put ads on it...

BTW, here's a link to the video in question:

Anyone have this happen to them before? Also, anyone know what I should do about the video? Should I delete it?

Local Forecast / Circa August 2005 Satellite LFs
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:52:18 AM »
Just curious, does anyone have any satellite LF videos from right around the August 15, 2005 relaunch or shortly thereafter (maybe a few weeks after)? I'm looking for videos of when the satellite LF still had mixed case text in the titlebar.

I've so far found
one
from August 29th during Katrina coverage. Anyone know of any others from around this time period?

Thanks.

OCMs & Personalities / Jeff Morrow moving to mornings
« on: May 02, 2008, 04:00:00 PM »
Today at the end of Weather Center, Vivian Brown and Jeff Morrow mentioned that today would be their last day working together. Jeff said that he would be moving to early mornings alongside Nick Walker on First Outlook, while Vivian would be staying in the afternoon shift. I wonder who will be taking Jeff's place on Weather Center?

I quite liked seeing Jeff and Vivian together. They made a great team, IMO.

I was just browsing TWC Media Kit and I found this video showing some neat time-lapse shots of the construction of the new HD studio and what it will look like both inside and out.

Next round of bids for Weather Channel due in May-sources
Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:16pm EDT

By Jui Chakravorty Das

NEW YORK, April 10 (Reuters) - A handful of media companiesare gearing up to submit second round bids for the Weather Channel, although a sale of the asset could go for significantly less than the $5 billion its owners originally sought, two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters.

Fewer than five companies are putting together the second-round bids, which will be due in early to mid-May, the sources said. All the bidders are media companies and the buyer, likely to be announced by early June, could pay as low as $3 billion for the U.S. cable network, the sources said.

Separately, another source briefed on the matter said Time Warner Inc (TWX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is in talks to buy the Weather Channel from privately held Landmark Communications. Landmark announced earlier this year it hired JP Morgan and Lehman Brothers to study its options.

Several sources told Reuters last month that General Electric Co's NBC Universal (GE.N: Quote, Profile, Research), CBS Corp (CBS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O: Quote, Profile, Research) had examined the financial materials that were assembled for the auction.

It is unclear if any of those companies made a bid for the channel. CBS declined comment and Comcast was not immediately available for comment.

In an interview with Reuters earlier this week, NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker declined to comment on whether NBC had made a bid for the Weather Channel but said: "The Weather Channel is a very good opportunity and certainly something we would take a look at."

While considered a prized asset, auction of the Weather Channel has failed to attract private equity as the credit crunch has restricted financing for major leveraged buyouts, sources have said.

The Weather Channel appeals to media companies looking to enter cable or expand their holdings, since the network's time-sensitive broadcasts and programming about hot-button issues on the environment have proven to be attractive to audiences and advertisers, industry experts have said.

The Weather Channel produces continuous, 24-hour national, regional and local weather-related programs and is received by more than 96 million U.S. households. It can be seen in more than 97 percent of all cable TV homes nationwide.

The channel's accompanying Web site attracts about 35 million unique users each month, Landmark said. That puts it among the Web's 20 most popular sites, and the top destination for online weather, news and information.

Landmark, based in Norfolk, Virginia, declined to comment on the auction process.

Landmark's interest in selling The Weather Channel comes amid broader shifts in the cable TV landscape. Discovery Communications, which includes, the Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Animal Planet networks, is expected to become a publicly traded company in the second quarter.

Sundance Channel, the joint venture between CBS, NBC Universal and Sundance founder Robert Redford, also is for sale, according to one of the sources.

In addition, IAC/InterActiveCorp (IACI.O: Quote, Profile, Research) is spinning off its HSN shopping network as part of a larger restructuring, and E.W. Scripps Co (SSP.N: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to split itself into two publicly traded companies, one that will center on its cable channels and another that will include its newspapers and broadcast TV stations. Everything Else TWC / SkyTracker font anomalies
« on: April 10, 2008, 08:41:15 PM »
For the past few months, I've noticed that the text label Memphis, TN on SkyTracker is using a Helvetica-like typeface as apposed to Interstate, like the rest of the text labels.

Anyone know why this is happening?

OCMs & Personalities / Dr. Carl Parker
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:23:43 PM »
Just now during the Weekly Planner, Adam Berg referred to Carl as "Dr. Carl Parker" then said he would need to get a pad of paper and a writing instrument and take some notes.  :rofl2:
