Local Forecast / Question About WeatherStar4000 BG and Radar Font
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:14:12 PM »
I was wondering, I've been studying over various 4000 videos (real and emulated) off and on for nearly 6 weeks or so since I've been making my own in AE and it seems like on the gradient background there's some noise. Is that really the case? :dunno: I haven't used the most recent 4000 emulator yet, but I think I remember on v3 when it was released there was noise on the BG.

My next question is about the font for "Local Radar" and "Current Radar". Is that a different font from the STAR4000 fonts? None of the ones I have installed match the font for that text.  The closest one is the STAR Radar font, but it's all CAPS. :hmm:

EDIT: I added some noise in the picture below which is from one of my AE projects.

Awesome work and good luck on your project! I really like how you chose to make a background from scratch instead. I don't really have any suggestions outside of the ones Zach already mentioned especially the last one. It helps a lot if you're not sure if you're scaling/aligning certain things (up or down) at the right size.

102ºF Mostly cloudy
Heat index: 105ºF

Terrible.  I was outside for about a minute and started sweating.

Look at the upside, you're not in Death Valley. Now I see they didn't get the name for nothing (maybe for bragging rights though). :P

Right now it's 91°F w/ a few clouds

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Eric Fisher Leaving TWC
« on: June 26, 2013, 06:29:40 PM »
How unfortunate, out of all the newbies the past 5 years, Eric was definitely one of my favorites. He seemed to have great chemistry and charisma with everyone he worked with especially his main co-OCM Jen Carfagno. I enjoyed watching him out in the field during hurricane season as well. (although he was a bit over-dramatic during Hurricane Irene, he got better in Issac and Sandy though so I pardoned him for Irene. :P)

Ah well, best of luck to him on his new Chief Met gig. He should get acquainted pretty well in Boston.

Sidenote: I guess that's why they're bringing in that new guy this Summer. (I don't remember his name, but he was discussed here)

I got two of my wisdom teeth removed this morning (the top left and bottom left.) The numbness in my left cheek and gums has gone away, and I can now feel all of the pain in the impacted area. In addition, any remaining sedation seems to have worn off, as I haven't fell asleep at all this afternoon. Hopefully the pain won't last too long, and gum tissue starts to restore the empty socket within the next couple days. I'm taking some pain medication periodically to help alleviate some of the pain. I cannot drink anything through a straw as that could cause the blood clots where my two wisdom teeth were to fall out, causing a dry socket. Also, I'm on a diet of soft foods for the next day or two. For dinner today I had some applesauce, yogurt, and Jello.

Going through it last month getting two pulled myself, the first 3 days are rough on your appetite and the soreness in your mouth. By Day 4, I was feeling back to normal. :) I stopped taking all my medications all together. I stopped taking the pain killers after Day 2 and I only took 2 nausea pills within the first 24 hours because I was nauseous. It'll be 2 months (July 3rd) since my procedure and my gums have completely healed over.

Funny thing that happened when I got the first one pulled out, I was awake during the entire procedure so when the first one came out (top right end) it actually flew right out of my mouth.

I hope your recovery from the surgery happens as quickly (or quicker) as it did for me.

Ironically it's developing it in the same general area Barry developed. I think for the first time in years, the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean is where a lot of our storms will end up firing up this year.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Names That Sound Menacing
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:12:50 PM »
What, exactly, are you basing this on? :dunno:

It's not based on anything factual or scientific. It's a fairly simple question. In your opinion, are there any names on either or both lists that makes you feel unease or sound like they could shape up to be powerful hurricanes if they developed? There's no right or wrong answer it's just what you feel or think.

EDIT: Take Ivan from 2004 as an example, you've heard of "Ivan the Terrible" right? Knowing about that you could have thought, "I wonder if Ivan could be a troublemaker" this year." It doesn't mean it would have, it's just what you're inferring about that name.

Maybe the better thread title should have been, "Hurricane Names That Sound Powerful".

This isn't perfect, but I took this image of the XL v2 background and removed TWC logo and the line where the banner/titleheader would be so I could use it for an IntelliStar emulation w/o having to crop the image (which is the way I did it in the past) I used the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop.

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Names That Sound Menacing
« on: June 20, 2013, 02:16:41 PM »
I got to thinking about this a couple of weeks ago. Out of curiosity, what names from the 2013 Atlantic (or Pacific) sound like they could cause trouble and wreck havoc if given the chance to develop?

My picks are...
Atlantic Ocean
Dorian
Erin
Humberto
Ingrid
Karen (there's something about this one I can't shake off...)
Lorenzo
Van
Wendy (I was on the fence about this one)

Pacific Ocean
Erick
Ivo
Kiko
Manuel
Tico
Zelda
