Most of the Winter Storm Watches across the Southern US region have been upgraded to Warnings this afternoon. Atlanta metro area remains in the watch category until further notice.

Now it's time to sit back and watch the fireworks.

Winter Storm Watch has been expanded to include the Atlanta metro area now.

Accumulations: 1/2 inch - 2 inches forecasted.

Way too close for comfort for my tastes.  Daytona Beach is only going to have rain and chilly temperatures (but that's what we've had practically all month), but, still, the thought of winter weather in my state makes me nervous.

I can understand your discomfort on this, but I don't think you'll have to worry about any wintry weather in Daytona as it stands right now. Any wintry weather in FL looks to remain confined to the panhandle region. Speaking of the panhandle, WSW's have been extended to cover the western sections of the panhandle. It includes, but not limited to Pensacola, Defuniak Springs, and Marianna, FL. Some accumulations of snow/ice is possible in those areas.

An unusually far south section of the Deep South region is in for a memorable experience over the next 72 hrs. Winter Storm Watches have been flying up from Southeastern North Carolina, to South/Central South Carolina (This includes the cities of Columbia and Charleston), to Central/South Georgia (South of Atlanta metro; includes Augusta, Columbus, Macon), to Southeastern half of Alabama (includes the city of Montgomery), to Southern Mississippi to Eastern Texas! Even parts of the FL Panhandle may join in on the fun!

In my neck of the woods I'm too far north (heh, imagine that) I don't get to say that often.

Does anyone have any relatives or friends that will be affected by this storm?

EDIT: To the mods/admins. if this storm gets named by TWC, feel free to change the thread title to said name if you feel it's necessary to.

I bet your climate would also not also be good for a common cold which I currently have imp. Turns out that my sore throat has developed into a common cold for which now I have chest congestion along with a runny nose and the occasional fever imp. I sure hope that I get well soon imp.

I hope you get better too Jim, the Cold/Flu season is really rough this year imp. I got a flu shot back in October and so far I've avoided getting sick. I haven't been sick with the flu in almost 4 years now imp.

I just don't get TWC's rules for when they stay live and when they go to tape.
Last night they ended storm coverage at 8pm though my cable guide said they were going to be on till 11pm.
Tonight there are no active storms and TWC is staying live to 10pm.

you're forgetting the fearsome WINTER STORM KRONOS...

Yeah, winter weather in south Texas and Louisiana would (well, should) warrant extra coverage. ;)  I guess TWC realizes that there's another part of the country other than the Northeast?

i live in louisiana.. we had snow.. interstates are shut down.. but all TWC cares about is Houston.. who got LESS snow than we did.

Houston got snow? I thought they only got ice. There is an unfortunate bias for the Northeast region when it comes to wall to wall coverage. (I do mean 24+ hours straight) There's only a bias towards the Southeast if Atlanta is being affected. Although, I've noticed in the past couple of years, that's not always the case either...

EDIT: To be fair, I do understand the bias, that is where the largest population of people live in our country, so if any threatening weather is in that region it makes sense to be all in on it. If any region of the country feels like outsiders it's the West.

Second coldest morning we've had so far this morning of a low of 11°F!

Since I don't own a weather station and have been using one from Weather Bug which is only about a couple of blocks away, I didn't wake up early enough to see how low it got imby, but I wouldn't be surprised if it got down into the single digits this morning.

Right now
Partly Cloudy
14°F
Wind Chill: 0°F
Dew Point: 1°F

I hate we missed out on the snow to our west, the storm got suppressed the further east it progressed. We were so close, but so far away. It's December 25, 2004 all over again. :cry3:

15°F Mostly Clear

The low this morning was only 5°F.  The snowfall total from this past storm was 1.8", which brings the total up to 2.5" for this winter.  A wind chill advisory is in effect from now through Friday morning with wind chill values of -5°F to -15°F expected.

That's in inches right? What's your annual snowfall average Patrick? To be halfway through Winter that number seems really low. That's close to what we average down here.

It's 32°F and Partly Cloudy. Were under our second Wind Chill Advisory for this month/Winter so far starting tonight into tomorrow morning.

I don't know, I think the name is appropriate, I'm sure it is being a real pain in the anus for many folks along the east coast. j/k

22°F Light Snow Flurries

We had some briefly earlier this afternoon, the first time they fell it was as warm as 44°F! :o The last time I've ever seen snow/graupel fall in the 40s was back in April 2009.

Were dropping into the teens tonight, time to let the faucets leak again!  :brr:

Kim and Mark were supposed to be on 3pm-7pm. Instead they only did one hour then Maria came back on after doing her regular AM shift to co host 4pm-8pm with Sam Champion.
Odd they made Maria come back instead of using another female OCM.

I'm gonna make a prediction: Sam Champion will likely have a co-host like Al Roker w/ Stephanie Abrams. Maria LaRosa is most likely at the top of the list of candidates for that position.

Tonight is probably a test run to see how well they work together, but that's just my opinion/thoughts on why Maria is there tonight.
