Programming and Graphics / Re: New Morning Show: "AMHQ with Sam Champion"

Off-topic, but still to this day I'm trying to figure out why a 10am hour of WUWA is important or relevant. Al and Steph's appearances are taped from what I've gathered. So what's the point? :dunno: They could have moved MR in this slot instead of giving it the boot but whatever...
Pacific time zone is at 7AM.

Well aware of that, that isn't my problem. My problem is the fact that Al and Stephanie's appearances are obviously taped and edited in between live updates from TWC HQ. It's basically Morning Rush with taped WUWA news headlines/lifestyle/entertainment segments. It's useless imo and has never made sense since the show's existence. If they're gonna have an hour of WUWA for West Coast viewers, it should be live just like 5:30am edition or get rid of it altogether at 10am. Again that's jmo.

Local Forecast / Re: February 2014 Playlist

The production music still didn't bother me,  rather have it over the vocals only because narrations have returned. Having them both was distracting before, I doubt it will be any better this time around. What did bother me is I find it hard to believe those were the only two tracks (excluding the storm mode one) they had to play from their music library.

3 days later and there's still some snow covering the ground and it was nearly 60 today! It may take the rain coming this weekend to wash the remaining bit away.

The satellite local bows has the boxes behind the cities on the radar/satellite maps, just like the cities on maps during live tv. Makes the cities easier to read.

It would help tremendously. Just like it would help if they didn't make the template for the weekend on the SD IS transparent because it's nearly impossible to read on a bright BG. It should be dark just like MON-FRI is. I think people have the common sense to be able to differentiate between the weekdays and the weekend w/o doing it the way it is now. (at least I hope they do...) :P

I've seen that numerous times, I'm curious what causes the lag in the update (with the icons)

All four of our local news affiliates (WSB, WAGA, WXIA, and WGCL) are currently doing wall to wall storm coverage, most since noon if not earlier.

The traffic is horrendous and comparable to what happened back in Snowjam '82. There are kids still stuck at school, most likely spending the night there, school buses are stuck in gridlock for several hours with or without children. Heck snowplows and salt trucks can't even get to the interstates because you guessed it: they're stuck in traffic too.

Roads have rapidly gone snow covered and icy since sunset. The traffic has been so bad that some of the news anchors at some of our stations were 2 or mores hours late getting to the studios to work on air. There's one reporter who was supposed to be on air at our CBS affiliate hours ago. She said she left at noon from Alpharetta and seven hours later she still hasn't gotten there yet!

550
It's 22.6°F with Moderate Snow. The snow started around 11:20am and the ground is already white! We haven't even gotten into the heaviest precip off to our SW yet! :thrilled:

Question: Has anyone ever heard or seen these phases on the text forecast before? :dunno:

"Lowering and thickening clouds. A steady snow developing as the day wears on." Skip to 0:28 to see it in the video.

Atlanta IntelliStar - WINTER STORM WARNING - January 28, 2014

Upgraded from Winter Weather Advisory to WINTER STORM WARNING! YES!!!

"The current radar, showing any precipitation and it's movement over the past 2 hours. Intensity is indicated by the color code at the top of the screen."

I forgot I made a snowfall forecast map earlier this evening.

General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:16:23 PM »
30.°8F Clear
WC: 24°F

There was a delay in the timing of the cold front, it was modeled to be here around this morning, but it didn't arrive until mid afternoon. The RAP model did show the arctic front slowing down though. Ever since it swept through temps have been steadily dropping from our high of 60°F today. There was even a 10 degree drop in dewpoint (18° to 8°) earlier this evening at KATL. :o

555
Congrats! It's your winter!

The south needs the snow though, glad to see them getting some.

Our 3 year snow drought will officially be over! Well technically it was over when the airport got 0.4 inch of snow on Thanksgiving eve, but whatever. Atlanta can finally use those new snow plows and salt equipment they spent 2 mil on after Snowjam 2011.

This is gonna be a fun storm to track, I'm concerned about the folks who will see more ice than snow along the SC/GA coast down into the FL Panhandle though. It won't be any fun for them. :(

I was just upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory, but our NWS office said they will likely upgrade to a warning if totals exceed their forecast.

Ice Storm Warnings are in effect from Savannah to Charleston. Winter Storm Warnings were expanded eastward earlier today in the FL panhandle to now include the cities of Apalachicola, Panama City, and Tallahassee. WOW!  :thrilled:

This folks is a rare gem in the making.

EDIT: The 21z SREF model plume has my mean snowfall at 3.19 inches and one member out of 15 that gives me 12.11 inches, that's actually tamer than the 21z SREF model plume yesterday that had one around 20 inches and 4 or 5 around or above 12 inches!
