Due to the severe flooding in GA, Atlanta Public Schools have been closed along with 128 other schools, colleges and businesses, the Governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue issued a State of Emergency for 17 counties, hearing the stories of how many people have been affected in the worst way from water rescues to death have been very heartbreaking for me.  :(

Yikes Tavores! I really hope the people at the ATL make it out safely from this horrible disaster. Nice to know you are doing okay as well.

Thank you Ana, if it wasn't for my street being on a slope elevation woe would be seeing flooding like other neighborhoods around us, I unfortunated had to dash home in kneehigh water which wasn't fun, I never seen flooded waters that high.

EDIT: I even heard Mike Bettes has flooding in his home as well.  :(

did anyone notice on their star Mix/Ice and Snow indicators are up on the reg/ local radars?
Yep, precip indicators on the regional radar screen, and the sat/rad is reset

I saw snow/mix frames come up in the radar frames around 4 this afternoon, which is what I believe initated the snow/mix indicators come up for us.

OT: While Jim was doing a live report from Peachtree Creek, they were showing the Wintry Mix icon for a current condition.

I'm gonna say #2

I've traveled to every state in the Southeast at least once.
I was only 4 months old when the Superstorm of 93' hit my area.
I didn't discover TWC until January 2000.

Here is What Paul Kocin had to say himself about Leaving The Weather Channel....... God I admire this guy

Thank you all for your supportive remarks. While I would love to say that I left the weather channel on my own, the truth is that they eliminated my position.

Now that I'm no longer working there (actually, my last day is officially on Friday - I'm currently in Orlando at my parents house), I am more than happy to find my place where my abilities will be best utilized and appreciated. I am kind of excited, albeit anxious at the prospect of the unknown.

So, can you guys find me a job??? (jes kidding, although NOT REALLY!!!!!)

I do plan on restarting a website my sister and her husband originally put up for me entitled, oddly enough, paulkocin.com. If you'd like to send me any comments, thoughts, suggestions, etc, I probably won't be able to send mail back (I"ve got a bug I've got to fix) for at least a week until I get home. I don't know if I will do anything with this site but at least it's a place for me to start going.

One opportunity for me lies in the possibility now that I may again be able to experience a good snowstorm (and I have now missed many a good one since 1999, when I started at TWC). Atlanta is a nice place to live - comfortable winter weather, nice fall and early spring but 2" of snow annually just doesn't cut it!! So, all is not lost - Kocin may finally yet again experience a BIG ONE!

As far as the future goes, I'm not sure right now - will see where my intuition leads and it's got to have winter weather involved (surprisingly, I do have other interests - have a 300 page manuscript on Northeast tropical cyclones and went storm chasing once about 2 years ago - saw 9 tornadoes in Nebraska on my very first storm - needless to say, I don't think I NEED to do another storm chase).

I am planning on being up in Baltimore for the conference this summer and am looking forward to it - had a great time last year - special thanks to "Mr. Bob". So, that's the story from the horse's mouth -- I'm doing fine and while I hope what I'm about to say doesn't get me into trouble - it is their loss.

Thanks again

PK

sorry if this was already posted

I still don't understand why they eliminated his position, I always thought that was stupid. They have a Hurricane and Severe Weather expert, but they didn't think it was important to have a Winter Weather expert?

Everything Else TWC / TWC Promoting Cloudy With A Chance of Meat Balls
« on: September 15, 2009, 08:33:52 PM »
I am sure none of you know about this, because from what it sounds like, you all are not fans of NBC :P. On NBC, they just showed a commercial for some animated movie, and it began with "This is a Weather Update.." (or something like that), and in the background, you can here The Weather Channel's "chime" from the 03-05 era.  I was like "wow that sounds so familiar", and no sooner do I walk away from the room, I hear Adam Berg talking, and it is some cheesy thing about ice cream and fried chicken in the forecast (or something along those lines) with a cheesy lower third. Adam Berg ended with "For the weather channel, I'm Adam Berg".  This probably makes no sense at all.  But whatever, point is, Adam Berg was on a commercial for an animated movie, on NBC, with the chimes from 2003ish.  :P

Yeah that was a promotional thing for the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" They showed that segment w/ Adam your talking about on PME yesterday. If I'm not mistaken, isn't this movie based off a story, I know I remember reading something like this in elementary school.
