Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: April 30, 2010, 11:19:23 PM »
Wow, I can't believe what I'm seeing.  TWC is showing a movie when the following has occurred or is ongoing:

  • Three people dead and at least 25 injured from an earlier tornado in Arkansas
  • Significant damage reported in Missouri from tornadoes with no idea about deaths or injuries yet
  • SPC upgraded Arkansas to a high risk for severe weather, the highest category possible
  • Numerous tornado warnings are currently in effect for Arkansas, eastern Missouri, and western Illinois

The worst part is that this risk for severe weather isn't over.  Who knows what will happen this weekend?  I'm just as upset as Jim Cantore. :club:  I hope and pray that the local media and the NWS do their jobs, because it seems that TWC doesn't understand the dire need right now.

They also upgraded Arkansas to a PDS Tornado Watch that's enough said right there.

He's right they did severely mislead the audience by lying about Paul coming on after Alex and Chris.

Trammell on SD part of the LF, all Trammell on HD @ 9:18 PM ET.

It happened again a few minutes later before WC came back on from break.

I'm a little sick of this horribly configured regional map...

Also, any particular reason they are airing overnight music on the local forecasts?

They must don't like putting Canadian cities on there.

EEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!! Well, I'm in for a long night (Patrick can confirm this).

I'm under the following:
  • Moderate risk of severe weather
  • 15% chance of tornadoes with hatched area
  • 30% chance of large hail with hatched area
  • 45% chance of severe wind

Ickkkkkkk. :P I've included several images, 4 of which are SPC forecasts, the other is the latest radar image. Definitely won't be pretty tonight.

The SPC upgraded most of AR to a HIGH risk now.

I never took any AP classes, but now I wish I did because they can be counted as college credit. I only took English honors my sophomore, junior, and senior years in high school. It wasn't too bad, especially because of the four point curve I got at the end of every grading period.

Has anyone ever heard the Allen Jackson narration for "muggy"? I just heard him say that for the forecast tomorrow night.  He has said "humid" every now and then, but never "muggy." It's going to be a pretty sticky, soupy night in New Orleans tomorrow. (That's just the type of uncomfortable weather we need for the people assessing the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.)

Funny you mentioned that Christina, I just heard the narration for muggy on my IntelliStar a few minutes ago.

WeatherSTAR3000 Emulation in After Effects (Well actually Premiere Pro)

I decided to start off with one of the easiest STARs to make the 3000. I only made 1 screen so far which is the CC and I added a crawl, now I just need to find out how to add a working clock.....

Song featured in video is a really good 80's song called "The Quest" by Ramsey Lewis.

I like the new music, a welcome change. It's kind of weird with the sound effects layered in, but they may change that. I wouldn't mind if they DID redo all of the music tracks with that little chime on the end of the WC intro, it's nice and not complicated. In two side notes, I noticed YWT doesn't use its new music much, if at all...can't complain, it sucked >_>...and PM Edition seems to be using 25th Anniversary music occasionally...odd.

I actually like that music playing as the new music theme on PME. The more I hear it, the more it sounds similar to the original HD music that was being used.

Oh boy. For those of you who've been looking for all of the weatherscan music from 2003 to present, search no longer. There are 40 tracks in total, not including Trammell's 39 song set. This is the archive of unknowns tracks so download and enjoy. they're in pretty high quality and are mono although some tracks were edited to remove the voice narrations. Speaking of which i found a thread on here that someone had an archive of the Allen Jackson voice narrations and the thread was removed or something i couldn't get to it. Anywa here is the zipped archive for those who wants it

Home Improvement was and still is popular... why remove it! I noticed Everybody Loves Raymond and the Cosby Show have both been playing a lot lately. Honestly, i don't know why so many people find those shows funny. I've watched them both myself and I don't think I laughed one bit... maybe once or twice but that's about it. Home Improvement is a sitcom I actually understand and can laugh out loud at.

There's a lot of reasons why. Ratings were probably slipping or were low, the network may have opted not to renew their syndication contract to keeping airing on their network. I'm gonna assume the latter because of the fact that it moved to TVLand. It happens all the time to syndicated shows.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

So Weather Center tonight consisted of the following:

- A taped replay showing off Dr. Forbes saying the tornado would be bad
- Interview of a dumb couple who actually argued about what to do in the tornado
- Replays of the same footage and scenes of the tornado over and over again
- More repeats of stories and info by Jim Cantore
- About 5min of actual weather forecasts
- No live weather coverage

As much as I care about the people impacted, they are going WAY overboard on this. TWC wasn't like this at all after the May 3, 1999 outbreaks in Oklahoma, and that was much worse than what happened last weekend.

I don't like to play the blame when it comes to how things are handled on TWC these days, but I feel that strong influence of the shows being forced to be news oriented over being wx oriented is NBC's doing. (May I remind everyone of the "Balloon Boy" story? ) What happened in Yazoo City, MS and Weir, AL were devastating tragedies and my heart and prayers do go out to the victim's families who lost family members or lost their valuables, but even our local affiliates here didn't dwell on the Yazoo City, MS tornado to the point that they have on TWC and even if they did, I'm sure they would have used new footage and new interviews instead of reusing stock footage they got back on Saturday when the tornado happened.

Wow, so it's just a coincidence that TSOP sounds exactly the same?

It's no coincidence, it's the original theme to that show when it first debuted in the 70's. It was purposely recorded for the show as the theme in 1973.

Theme music

Soul Train used various original and current music for theme songs during its run, including:
1971-1973: "Hot Potatoes", by King Curtis, and later redone by the Rimshots.
1973-1975: "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)", composed by Gamble and Huff and recorded by Philadelphia soul studio group MFSB with vocals by The Three Degrees. Released as a single, this song became a pop and R&B radio hit in 1974.
1975-1976: "Soul Train '75", by the The Soul Train Gang, which was later released as a single for the newly formed Soul Train Records.
1976-1978: "Soul Train '76 (Get on Board)", also by The Soul Train Gang.
1978-1980: '"Soul Train Theme '79", produced by the Hollywood Disco Jazz Band with vocals by the Waters.
1980-1983: "Up on Soul Train", first by the Waters and later by the Whispers, whose version appears in their 1980 album Imagination.[12]
1983-1987: "Soul Train's a Comin'", by R&B artist O'Bryan.[13]
1987-1989: "TSOP '87", a remake of the original "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)", composed and produced by George Duke.
1989-1993: "TSOP '89", a remixed version of "TSOP '87", also by George Duke.
1993-1999: "Soul Train '93" (Know You Like to Dance)", by the hip-hop group Naughty by Nature with a saxophone solo by Everette Harp.
1999-2006: "TSOP 2000", with rap vocals by hip hop artist Samson and music by Dr. Freeze, and again featuring an Everett Harp saxophone solo. However, a portion of "Know You Like to Dance" was still used in the show's second-half opening segment during this period.
