Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Igor

I'm not ready to call fish storm on Igor yet, but that seems to be the trend with these Cape Verde storms. It's too soon she's only going 6mph. She ain't rushing to get anywhere anytime soon. :P I think it's gonna depend on whether or not another trough moves in over the Atlantic and Igor takes advantage of a weakness and curves on out.

Yesterday our NBC affiliate WXIA-TV debuted a new weather product called the "W.I.Z" (Weather Information Zone) where viewers can rate the weather and other stuff online or on their phones. They ran promos for weeks that were saying, "Soon, Your Days Will Be Numbered." Did any other NBC affiliates associated w/ Gannett get some kind of product like this?  :dunno:

WXIA-TV Debuts the WIZ (Weather Information Zone) 9.7.10

Reminds me of Tor:Con in a way.  I don't like it.  I'd prefer just giving weather information.  I don't care how the meteorologist would rate the weather on a particular day.  It seemslike they put more emphasis on the "Wizometer" number than the actual weather forecast.

I don't like it for the same reasons either. While I was recording it all I could think about was"Are you gonna bother talking about any other day besides you giving Wednesday an 8?"

Here's some long range models

Interesting that the main track is on the lower end than right in the middle, looks like right now it could be a FL or EC hit, but too early to say for sure.

Forecasting / Re: Ask The Weather Expert!

If you really love weather and want a career in this field, your interest will help you prevail in these hard classes.  Many concepts may not make sense initially, but it'll change once you begin to connect the dots and apply everything you've learned to explain how the weather works.

Kyle, you have to account for the atmospheric flow at all levels from the large-scale winds aloft around fronts to the small-scale winds within the storm.  Your conclusion alone doesn't explain the fact that tornadoes can travel in any direction and even change directions suddenly while on the ground.  While it's true that tornadoes move from southwest to northeast most often, it's not something you should assume for all as the small-scale flow within a storm environment can vary dramatically and alter the tornado's path.

That's true, I always assumed the samething, but the tornado that hit us went in the opposite direction, northwest to southeast.

Eventhough I think accuweather is right about their forecast, I'm still crossing my fingers that the  Farmer's Almanac is right about my area.

You want a very cold and wet winter?

I hope the AccuWeather Forecast is right. I hate winter; it's my least favorite season. Sure, the snow is fun but that's only WHEN we get some (which is hardly ever [except for last winter]), so what's the point in just cold and miserable weather?

IF the AccuWeather forecast is right, though, it demonstrates an opposite winter from the 2009-2010 winter because we broke a ton of snow records this past winter.

Yes, I do. Winter is my favorite season behind Fall. Years down the road from now I might move north. I've grown up in the south my entire life, but I absolutely HATE heat!

I can understand your reasoning for not liking Winter. TX and OK got slammed hard this past winter, we got the short stick of the draw with almost every winter storm except two and they still didn't stack up to the 12+ inches of snow ya'll saw out there, but the way I see it is if it's cold and it's gonna be wet it might as well be snowing. Cold with Heavy Raw rain like we saw this past winter is much more miserable than cold and snow imo.

My Version of the HD IntelliStar - Phase 2 Final Draft Graphically (My last video from this project for the next week or two)

All weather data available was up to date at the time of this video being rendered in After Effects. All forecast products have been added for this 2 min flavor.

Song: "High Season" by Chris Geith (I purposely chose this song because it fits perfectly with the whole HD feel imo.

I like the cloud background you used, but the radar looks weird.

That's because the radar wasn't transparent and I didn't layer it together before I imported it in so it automatically came up with a white background instead of a blank one.

i see it possible that they may go into full storm alert mode for Hermine because it could become a hurricane...i dont think they are going to wait for a cat 3 or greater because this is the first relatively strong tropical system to make a us landfall since ike in 08 (if it does still exist)
You just had a Cat4 threaten the east coast and they didn't do it. Hermine is a weak pathetic storm. Good luck getting TWC to even really cover it. And that storm has little to no chance of being a hurricane upon landfall
lol :rofl2:
Your acting like TWC is the world yet it should be the least of priorities so what i said wasnt supposed to be funny

Several people here on this forum need to learn to expand their horizons.

I'm skeptical about that, I tend to monitor storms like Hermine since they could easily pull a "Humberto" on us.  It looks stronger than a 50mph tropical storm as the NHC is saying.

I don't remember if my STAR ID changed when I got the IS, it could be the same.
It was early 2004, February I believe... I really didn't pay much attention because I confused the two stars at first since they had the same background.

I can't see that map being correct with transitioning ninos.

If they're basing this off of La Nina, their forecast would be spot on for the SE. That's already occurring right now, we usually don't see 90's anymore in my area by this point in the year, but we still are. Plus it has been dry as of late.

Wherever the storm makes landfall it would be ideal if moisture from the storms remnants could work its' way into the mid Atlantic region. It's been really dry here since late July and we could sure use the rain.

I was hoping it comes our way too because we could use a good downpour of rain, it's been dry for a while now another sign of a stupid La Nina coming in.
