Well a major hurricane is heading their way and I think they have done that before. (having someone report from Bermuda)

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Beta Launch

cause technology advances practically everyday.

But why should The Weather Channel spend money and resources on developing a new SD Star when standard television has, at least in the opinion of the government, become obsolete?  Even cable/satellite operators aren't going to be required to carry them for much longer (but probably will, at least for the foreseeable future, since HDTV sets are quite expensive).

Well that may be true, it's not gonna be easy getting everyone to switch to HDTVs anyway, cheap or expensive. We know how hard it was getting people to get converter boxes for the digital transition....but also the bigger size HDTVs (40 in. up) are expensive, but the ones I've seen under 32 in. are reasonable to me imo. Mine was under $300, but since we were getting it through Walmart the shipping and taxes sent it up to around $320. Sorry about jumping off topic then, I just wanted to add that part in.

The NHC's track for Julia is kinda weird to me, it's most likely gonna go OTS, but at Day 5 it looks like it's moving west.

He's going annular now, so perfectly symmetrical overall. This would be our third hurricane to do so behind Danielle and Earl (only briefly).

9/11: As it Happened on MSNBC (Basically a replay of The Today Show, from 9/11/01)

Interesting to see some of the post footage right after the Twin Towers both collapsed since I was in school at this time and our school didn't allow any students to watch all of this happen except the 5th graders.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Igor
« on: September 09, 2010, 03:52:35 PM »
Well, to be technical, in this case Igor is a he since Hermine was a she(if you didn't know, the names alternate he/she).  I thought a couple weeks ago with a name like Igor, that's something to watch out for and it may be a scary one.

I know it's male to female alternating on this list, but the name doesn't sound that masculine to me imo and plus that was a simple mistake anyway.

I'm not ready to call fish storm on Igor yet, but that seems to be the trend with these Cape Verde storms. It's too soon she's only going 6mph. She ain't rushing to get anywhere anytime soon. :P I think it's gonna depend on whether or not another trough moves in over the Atlantic and Igor takes advantage of a weakness and curves on out.
Is Igor a she :P What a strange name anyway for a storm

He,she or both.  :P

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Yesterday our NBC affiliate WXIA-TV debuted a new weather product called the "W.I.Z" (Weather Information Zone) where viewers can rate the weather and other stuff online or on their phones. They ran promos for weeks that were saying, "Soon, Your Days Will Be Numbered." Did any other NBC affiliates associated w/ Gannett get some kind of product like this?  :dunno:

WXIA-TV Debuts the WIZ (Weather Information Zone) 9.7.10

Got to be one of the dumbest things I have seen in a long time. TWC did something like that but they didn't promo it to death like this. Please get the name of whoever does their graphics and fire them. It looks like powerpoint!

You should have seen the promos they were airing, it was overkill. I should have known better than to expect this to be more than decent, this is the same affiliate that only has Cheryl Lemke as a "fill in" which irks me because I haven't seen her on air since July, it's starting to feel like the whole Dave being replaced at our CBS affiliate (another station I don't like) all over again.  :(

Tornado sirens currently going off in my area for a strong cell to the east. I don't think the tornado will affect where I live, but I hope this blows over soon.

I wouldn't be too worried, from what I've seen, most tornadoes from tropical storm remains are weak and/or don't touchdown for very long than a couple of minutes.
