I wish more strong cold fronts could sweep through here during the Summer like the one this week did imp. It's been so much more cooler and refreshing outside imp. :D

Atlanta

WSB/ABC 2 - Live, Local, Late Breaking or Coverage You Can Count On (Both slogans are used in their openers)
WAGA/FOX 5 - Dedicated, Determined, Dependable
WXIA/NBC 11 - Holding the Powerful Accountable
WGCL/CBS 46 - Protecting Your Money

I don't watch AMHQ and don't care for it, so I can't comment on their content but I truly hope they don't cancel the show. It would be an utter failure to see Champion land back to square 1 again. TWC probably spent millions on the show and it would be terrible to see them cancel the show and have those workers lose their jobs after all of this.

Even if AMHQ doesn't make it a full year or the remainder of this year on air, I'm pretty certain Sam Champion is not going anywhere anytime soon. As you said, too much money was invested in not only this show, but Sam Champion himself as a brand. Plus if I'm not mistaken, Champion has a producer title as part of his deal for joining the network. I don't know how much creative control he has, but I would imagine they would still want him to stick around off and on air in some capacity since he was (and still is) a well, likable, weather personality.

General Discussion / Re: AccuWeather Channel

Are they trying to copy The Weather Channel's extreme minimalism or what?!

If they were, they sure did a hell of a better job at it. The maps are much more appealing. Although I'm in the minority of people who actually does like TWC's gray maps, I just think the Accuweather maps in the promo video are better.

Also it's clear that Renderon threw in some elements of "NBC/CBS/FOX inspired" graphics sprinkled around in that promo video and the link Trevor provided, especially the Accuweather Channel bumper/LDL. The LDL itself for example reminds me of the LDL the TODAY show used to have.

The design company hired to handle AccuWeather's TV graphics, Renderon, has released a preview of the graphics.

http://www.renderon.com/#/accuweather/

In some elements, the graphics are a carbon copy of TWC (the orange emblem displaying weather conditions/temperature for Boston? AMHQ anyone? :whistling:), only done much better. They seem to carry more depth than TWC does. Kudos to them and Renderon who did a great job on the designs!

173,000 viewers isn't a smash hit, but it's not terrible and it's also a major improvement over 3 months ago in April (go back 2 pages) when it was on average 39,000. It's basically quadrupled it's ratings in a 3 month time span. Just trying to put a positive spin on it I guess.

Also aren't morning cable news shows generally exceptionally low in viewership in comparison to broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, and CBS)? I know I've read about shows like "Morning Joe" for example have ratings similar to this before.

I survived the Internet Blackout of 2014!

Man, that was the longest, nightmarish, and most major inconvenience of no internet access in my house that lasted a week for me.

It all started back on Tuesday last week when I did the most stupidest, idiotic thing I could have possibly done...I re-installed Windows 7 from my Windows 7 CD I got with my desktop 3 1/2 years ago, hoping and thinking I could get things restored back to the factory settings.

Boy, was I wrong! I only made a bad situation worse. I lost everything (well most of the programs/files were still in the OS drive labeled as "windows.old") The problem with that is I ended up deciding it was best to delete that entire file anyway through the Disk Clean up program tonight and just start off on a clean slate. Plus I freed up over 200 GB of space, so I'm back up to around 835 GB out of 1 TB. :D

Long story short, you don't realize how excited I am to have internet access again. It's been a rough week, going to the library to submit an online assignment that was due in the midst of this madness, making phone calls tech support, re-installing the drivers/utilities on my PC again, and getting a new DSL modem which I needed anyway. The one I have still works, but it's super old, like March 2005 old.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Jennifer Lopez returns to TWC
« on: July 05, 2014, 10:26:46 AM »
This made me think about something, is Jennifer technically still a fill-in for TWC? If so, is it possible for a local news station to hire her full time if they wanted to?

I REALLY want WSB to bring her on board permanently. She would be a great addition to their weather team. :)

EDIT: Here's a video clip, this was recorded during a news update this morning at the end of Good Morning America during the 9am hour.
Meteorologist Jennifer Lopez Temporarily Joins WSB-TV

Did Jen leave TWC again cause she supposedly helping out at WSB-TV in Atlanta this summer?  Found this out off of Twitter.

I saw her on TV not too long ago, my reaction was holy crap! That was a surprise!  :thrilled: You mentioned she got pulled in for the Summer

There's been a major shakeup at WSB in the weather department, one of our veteran mets (25 years) David Chandley decided not to renew his contract because he wants to work at a news station where he can be Chief Meteorologist. The current chief met, Glenn Burns has joked around that he's not retiring anytime soon. There's rumors going around that he may replace the Chief met from their rival FOX station Ken Cook who is retiring this month. Also WSB just hired a female met to work weekends named Katie Walls, but she's been filling in during the week for Karen Minton who's on vacation.

Even if Jennifer Lopez is temporary, I hope WSB eventually hires her full time! She'll get more airtime there than she will on The Weather Channel lately. <_<

EDIT: I'll see if I can get a clip of her during the 6pm newscast since the noon newscast is being preempted for the FIFA World Cup/Wimbledon today.

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: Intellistar 2 Greetings list
« on: July 04, 2014, 12:11:50 AM »
Although this is not from the IS2, I never knew the HD National Forecast had greetings for holidays.

Here's the first one shown going into the midnight hour of Independence Day.

"Red, White, and Blue Salutes You!"

It replaces the line, "Hello America" which is seen right above the Local on the 8s text on the intro screen.

I don't think I've ever seen a category 1 hurricane look as good as Arthur does on IR and visible.

Also if you want to look at a radar perspective of Hurricane Arthur's eye as it approaches NC, here's a great link

^the radar automatically updates btw.
