Birmingham, AL NWS seems to be hinting at a large heavy snow band developing later on during this storm...

NOW ON TO OTHER CONCERNS. OUT OF THE GATE...I HAD BEEN WATCHING
THE DRYING TREND ACROSS THE HEART OF CENTRAL ALABAMA AS MOST
NUMERICAL GUIDANCE DEVELOPS SOME CONVECTION OUT OVER THE GULF
WATERS. THAT SAID...WHEN LOOKING AT THE LOW AND MID LEVEL
FRONTOGENESIS AND NEGATIVE PVU...THERE WILL BE A DECENT BAND OF
MESOSCALE LIFT THAT LOOKS TO FORM NEAR SOUTH CENTRAL MS AND
TRANSLATE RATHER QUICKLY NORTHEAST TO TCL...BHM...AND EVENTUALLY
GADSDEN BY MIDNIGHT OR THEREABOUT. MODEL QPF JUST DOESN`T MATCH
THAT FEATURE...SO HAVE DISCOUNTED SOME OF THE LOWER AMOUNTS BY
KEEPING THE GENERAL 3 TO 6 INCHES WITH LOCALLY MORE ACROSS THE
NORTHERN THIRD OF THE AREA. OF COURSE...THE MESOSCALE DETAILS OF
THIS FEATURE WILL OBVIOUSLY BE DETERMINED IN A MORE NOWCASTING
SCENARIO...BUT I WILL HAVE TO RELY ON THE NUMERICAL OUTPUT FOR THE
GENERAL SYNOPTIC LOOK AND FEEL OF THE SETUP. STILL...THE MOISTURE
WILL BE IN THE ATMOSPHERE...AND IF THE FEATURE IS REAL...THERE
WILL BE THAT OPPORTUNITY EARLY MONDAY MORNING TO SEE A HEAVY SNOW

According to the Memphis NWS, there is a chance of thundersnow there. So snowfall rates could be of excess of 2-3 inches an hour if that occurs which I believe is likely, there looks to be a lot of lift with the development of this storm atm.

I actually had some thundersnow today

I love to be lucky to see thundersnow with this, after experiencing it back in March 2009, It's such an awesome phenomenon and the rumbles of thunder is so LOUD, louder than some of the severe thunderstorms we usually see in Spring.

I hope these don't come off as rants, that's not what I'm doing especially the third one.

The coverage they're doing now for the SE storm should be something they do with every storm for now on. (Not saying I want long form programming gone, but it should be preempted)

Revive Abrams & Bettes: Beyond the Forecast! (I really miss that orange set, it gave them their own identity from the other shows. Plus I don't like them on YWT in the mornings, they were better in the evenings)

Rehire all layed off OCMs over the past 3 years so there's some stable positions on each show, It's annoying to see them switch up pairings every few months.

Bring back PM Edition from 5-7pm reducing L.F.P to weekends only.

Upgrade the IntelliStar graphically to match a little more with on-air graphics like it was with the STARs previously.

Get Al a new co-host and give poor Stephanie a break for Pete's sake! Isn't she doing enough as it is?

Fire uhhh Todd uhhh Santos uhhhh.....

EDIT: I forgot to mention this earlier, I was on my NBC affiliate's website and Cheryl Lemkee afternoon update video was forecasting 6-10 inches here. They must have gotten more confident in higher totals because Chris Holcomb was there this morning was saying the model run he showed that had a large area of 6-12 was overdone was thinking more in line with 5 inches, only higher totals in isolated spots.

WSB-TV (ABC) - Brad Nitz forecasting 4-7 inches, he said he was being "conservative" could be higher before mixing starts near the latter end. Also forecasting 1/4-1/2, this is the part that's alraming to me. Hopefully it'll end up being less ice. (This channel is also in "Storm Watch", can't remember the last time I saw that so that's saying something.)

WAGA-TV (FOX) - 5-7 inches

I don't know about the forecast from our CBS affilate

TWC - 4-6 inches Sunday Night, possibility of more accumulations Monday going by the LF.

I'm watching this very closely, especially our temps. Seems like we'll be anywhere from the upper teens to low 20's tonight and the clouds are expected to move in late tomorrow morning. I don't want to jump the gun, but I can't see it getting to the upper 30's tomorrow if there's a lot of thick clouds around during the day. The best thing about this is about 90% of this will be all snow since the worst of it will be in the overnight hours. I keep looking at these huge snowfall totals that keep coming out on some of the models and all I can say is I think we warped back to the 70's and 80's because the last time we saw large swaths of 4-8, 8-10 10+ over areas of the South was during that era. We haven't had good snows like that since. It's been nearly a decade since we saw 6 inches. This is definitely going to be fun to watch for sure. Somebody is gonna get whacked hard.

Is Jim going to head somewhere to the South (possibly even back to Atlanta) to cover the winter storm the region will be getting this weekend, or stay in NYC?

I think he might be staying up there, but I could be wrong. Speaking of that, who are they going to be getting to do field reports in the SE for this winterstorm?

Question: That phrase "The National Weather Service Has Issued a Weather Bulletin For Our Area" anyone know if it's supposed to say that on certain local forecasts? I've been hearing off and on since they issued the Winter Storm Watch here along with the Wind Advisory.

It's amazing to see the swath of WSW (Winter Storm Watches) that extend from ARK to N/SC. NAM really wants to dump on I-20 a large area of 8-10 inches of snow from Brimingham to Atlanta to Athens and north. But that's only if the latest NAM run has it's way. Speaking of the NAM 00z run is running right now, I'm interested to see what it says. I plan on making a snow map tomorrow night (preliminary) and again Sunday (Final) on this storm, I'm gonna post it here and at other weather forum communities I'm apart of. One of our local mets said this evening to stock up for 2 or more days in case to prepare for the worst.

0z GFS wants to bring me 3-4 inches although it might be half of that because we might have mixing issues on the onset, but temps have already began dropping below out forecasted low of 32 (in the city that is) the airport is still warm about 5 degrees warmer than downtown. Also the GFS along with the RUC model and I think even the 0z NAM has been getting VERY close to wanting to phase this storm within the next 12-18 hours.
