What is it with this guy and thundersnow?

Did you not see how inceredibly close that blue lightning was to him and Mike Bettes while they were talking? I would have reacted the same way if not worse dropping more than just the B-bomb...(Although Jim stopped clear of saying it)

I am displeased at the lack of instability here where I live. Lots of rain but there's low CAPE, therefore, little or no lightning.   It's only February 1st, though. Later on, there will probably be more oppurtunities for thunderstorms and severe weather.

Well, I think getting the beneficial rainfall is more important and the best thing out of this. Severe weather is all fine and well, but I hate dealing with it during the Winter, the dynamics are better in the Spring and it's warmer for a longer period of time. I rather have a soaking cold 2 inch rainfall than suffer through another long term drought where we'll be begging to get a drop in the bucket. Were about 4 inches behind so this rainfall should be a really good drought buster for us.

So I see on a graphic on weather.com that Dr. Greg Forbes is in Pennsylvania for Winter Storm coverage. Is he doing field reports? Or maybe he is in a studio...just don't remember Dr. Forbes doing field reports before (has he?).

He was out in the field for the Vortex 2 project last year I think once or twice.

This is a pretty dynamic storm already, there are reports of thunderstorm/unknown precip coming out of Oklahoma City and Norman, OK via NWS.

OKC Radar (shows where lightning strikes are occuring in the snow/mix/rain areas)

So, why were Crystal and Chris on only at the 7PM hour, and then at 8PM, Todd and Kim C. are on? I thought WC 1 crew went from 7-10?

I'm assuming since long form programming was supposed to be on, they decided to have a different crew on during those hours. I guess Kelly will be there at 10 with whoever is partnering with her since Paul is in the field.

This storm is so epic, NOAA's website had to post a bulletin saying the server is slow/crashing (It did that to me last night)

BLIZZARD WATCH - CHICAGO, IL PART ONE (CALM BEFORE THE BLIZZARD)

WeatherSTAR3000 Emulation - STORM SYNOPSIS: Chicago, IL is in the bullseye of a very powerful potent winterstorm expected to bring everything except the kitchen sink from blizzard conditions, to crippling ice, to severe thunderstorms/possible tornadoes, to even flooding. This storm is projected to affect 1/3 (100 million) Americans in some form or shape of fashion the next 72 hours. Chicago via NWS is projected to accumulate 12 -18 inches of snow (24 inches locally) during the duration of this blizzard. Snowfall rates of over 3 inches per hour is also possible. I know the text isn't aligned correctly in this emulation, I haven't worked on it since December 2009. I'll work to fix that at a later date. If time permits for me this week, I'll also do a 3000 emulation on the conditions in Indianapolis, IN and Detroit, MI.

Song - Ralph Diekemper - "Song for Lee" I think this fit perfectly with the Winter background in this emulation so that's why I chose this song, plus it's my favorite from the January '11 overnight list.

I bet even a lot of the diehard snowlovers in the North wished they had of been careful of what they wished for this winter. Old Man Winter is really kicking our butts along the East Coast this winter. This is the snowiest La Nina winter I have ever been through, the only one I think comes close is the '95- '96 winter.

It's a really warm day outside! :o
63°F Mostly Sunny

It got that warm that far north? Wow.  :o It hit 70 here yesterday, first time it's been that warm on a weekend since November last year. Today was about the same, looks like our Spring Fever is coming to an abrupt end.
