Wow, I didn't realize it until I got ready to take out the trash, but the winds outside is whipping like mad gust to 38mph! I know that's not expectionally high, but it sounds like it's howling much higher than that when I was outside. I guess that cold front just moved through here.

We might be able to get one more snowfall here  Right before La Nina rears her ugly head. Oh well I knew that thaw was coming eventually. I'm hoping we do get this snowfall because all we'll need is 2 inches and I'll have my first 10+ inch winter since 1993 and I don't think I have to go any further as to why that year was the last.

Nothing special... this is an XL metro map for Boston. There are differences from the ones Ive put up for Tampa including font changes in markers, anti-aliased/stroked highways, and a change in font to the temp values

Oh don't be modest :P, that's freakin' spectacular! That's about as authentic as you can get with a recreation!

On the Satellite version,(the squeezeback forecast)  the data forecast for Charleston said 61 and Partly Cloudy, and the website says it will rain? Why are they not agreeing?

Outdated data maybe? I saw a similar thing last week where during the LF on the text part it was saying 50's and rain for Monday and Tuesday, but on the 7 day, it said 40's and rain for Monday and 40's and Cloudy for Tuesday. I don't remember the exact temps forecasted, but it was something like that.

Everything Else TWC / Re: What would you do to improve TWC?
« on: February 06, 2011, 10:39:07 AM »
This is more of an idea than an improvement, but I think it would be good if TWC's precip maps indicated freezing rain accumulations instead of using rain as an indicator. It would make it easier to know where there's a chance of little or a lot of freezing rain to develop. I think the way it is now gives a false impression that's it's a warm rain when it's really ice. I would suggest using different hues of purple or pink as they do on radars.

Today was a day that the forecasters blew it. They did not predict the sudden onset of sleet and freezing rain my area experienced today. It was not expected to cause travel difficulties, but numerous accidents occurred on the roads across the Birmingham Metro area. Schools closed early and traffic on the Interstates and other major highways in the area was extremely slow.
Do they even bother to check with other sources(ie NWS)? If not, they should.
Oh yeah. The NWS were among the ones who didn't expect it to get as serious as it did.

If there's going to be blame, it should be on the models also. In situations like this in the South when there's a threat of ice, they tend to perform poorly with temperatures sometimes too warm than what actually transpires. They also tend to be slow with development of the precip at least this Winter that's been the case. That band of rain/mix that showed up in AL/GA last night was not shown on any models to be there so that on it's own was a  clear indication that this was a problem from the start.

This has been an incredible winter better than last winter! :D 8 inches of snow so far and there's still plenty of Winter to go! I can't remember the last time I have seen that much snow in one Winter season, up until DC got hit by that winterstorm in late January, we had twice as much snow as they did. Crazy!

Overall this was a very impressive storm, although Chicago fell shy of their all time record snowfall 20 inches is impressive nonetheless. Looks like I may see some wintry mix this morning before transitioning to all rain 2 inches today and tomorrow with temps holding in the mid to upper 30's gotta love it. Oh well at least it's a drought buster. I just wish at least 1/4 or 1/5 of that was in the form of snow like on the backside to make this even more worthwhile. It's extremely hard to get wraparound snow here because the NW winds dries what residual moisture that's around.

I just noticed... but why is Daybreak by michael haggins still playing on this list if it was also previously on the Dec/Jan list but not listed on the Jan/Feb list?

Scratch dat.. it is listed, but i never noticed :wall:

When I heard it the other day I thought the same thing. I don't recall that song being on the list the first time I saw it.
