Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

The clock on a LF or a LDL is just a nice addition.  But is it really a necessity when we now have watches, clocks, cell phones, VCRs, DVDs, computers, and so many other items to tell us the time?  Let's not make this such a huge issue, please.

I guess some of us are not accostumed to suttle changes like that, but I agree it's not that important to me either, there a dozen places I can see what the time is inlcuding the watch I wear on my arm everyday.

But that makes even less sense to want to be a teacher for money, a lot of teachers don't make that much money not to be a millionaire anyway. There was a somewhat similar problem here in my state the past few years when it came to raises for teachers where our former Republican gov. was going to give teachers here a 10% raise, the 8 years he was in office I don't believe teachers got more than about 2%.

Teachers in Wisconsin make $89,500 a year (salary + benefits).  The national average is $61,000.

And remember, most teachers only work 9 months a year.

They're whining because they don't want to have to pay 5.8% of their pension.  TRANSLATION: 94.2% of their pensions will still be paid for them.

This whole Unionization thing doesn't make sense to me.  As it is in Wisconsin, if you work for the State, you are forced to join the Union.  What is so wrong about giving individuals the right to choose?  If you want to join the Union, go ahead;  if you don't... then don't.

Hmm, if that's the case then I don't understand why they have to be so tightfisted about a cut that if I understood correctly is supposed to go towards funding their benefits. IMO that should be worth taking a cut for at least they make a pretty good amount of money that it shouldn't be this big of a deal or cripple them financially. I could see if they were making under 20,000 or something and they had to take a big cut.

According to one of Dr Jeff Masters blog there is a small possibility that La Ninia  could be completely dissipated by summer. With the small possibility of El Ninio setting in by fall....Only 2 computer models showed that at the time.I dont know what has changed since then
La Nina is beginning to weaken as the SST's are slowly increasing and the Climate Prediction Center's models (most of them) are trending toward a transition from La Nina to ENSO neutral conditions by summer.

Thank God, I hope we'll start shifting into a wetter pattern this Spring. Were already in a Level 1 drought, I don't want it to get worse.
Well, my experience has been that when La Nina is in a weakening phase during the spring, we tend to have an active severe weather season. This was the case during the La Nina springs of 1989, 2000 and 2008.

I can certainly testify to 2008 being VERY active. It's not often you get hit by a strong EF2 tornado and barely miss getting hit again the following day. The most active period imo was from February to May. I have never been under so many Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and FLash Flood Warnings, a couple of times all at once in my entire life. February 2009 started off on a similar pace, but the following months weren't as bad except April 2009.

They try to stay away from most minor airport hubs like air force bases and naval air stations because they don't keep track of records as far back as international airports do (most of the AFB's and NAS's here only have record data dating back to the 1990's).

Oh ok, now it makes sense. Thanks!

I didn't think to ask this at the time it happened, but are there any IntelliStar units where the almanac data comes from an AFB location? Back in Oct. 2009 when my IntelliStar unit was down after about two days of the Satellite feed, I temporarily got the Marietta IntelliStar, but I thought it was weird that the almanac data came from Hartsfield Int'l Airport. I would have thought it would come from Dobbins AFB since it's located in Marietta.

Hmm, I didn't clear my cache and I was seeing the Valentines Day logo up until the last couple of hours. Now the regular one used for WC is up.

Because their older stuff wasn't used

I don't care about that, my list was for artists I want to hear more of, NOT just whether or not old or new music from them was used or how many X years it's been since they have played and to further burst your little bubble, but your statement isn't true anyway. Candy Dulfer's "Lily Was Here" has played twice in the past year and it was made in the 90's last time I checked it's 2011, not 1992. The same goes for Jeanne Ricks, they were playing her new music last year, but they threw in "Listening Room" an oldie from her from the late 90's/early 00's.  If you're gonna get smart with me think before you post.

Their music has already been used within the past year.

So? They can play more of their songs. Why does it matter what specific timeframe was the last time they were recently featured? You didn't bother acknowledging the female artists and all of them played in the last year too.

The bottom line is that teachers should teach because they love teaching.
And the vast majority of teachers nowadays don't teach for that reason. Choose a job that you want to do, not just one that would make you a millionaire.

But that makes even less sense to want to be a teacher for money, a lot of teachers don't make that much money not to be a millionaire anyway. I personally am just so disturbed by this. The situation in Wisconsin is a DISGRACE! The people voted for a republican in a fair electoral process. Now the democrats in their state senate have fled the state and are hiding just to avoid voting on a bill that will save the state from bankruptcy. What is this world coming to?! If these representatives disagree with the bill they should vote against it and state their opinion, not throw a tantrum like a little child and run away.

I am also disgusted that the teachers in this state would sacrifice the education of students to go around chanting and partying in the streets.  :( Every last one of them should be fired in my opinion. I am sure there are plenty of teachers looking for jobs in this country.

Am I the only one who feels like this? We have the right to voice our opinions but we must do so in a civilized manor.

Is this the bill you're refering to? I haven't heard anything about this until today.
