Looks like TWC's signal is failing due to the storms moving into Atlanta.

was is the LDL failing too or just the video feed?

Just the video feed, my power went out about a minute after that.

Wow, those storms last night were WILD! I can't recall the last time a line of thunderstorms w/ damaging winds turned out to be just that. I estimate that the winds were probably around 50-60mph during the peak, we had probably mothball sized hail, (sounded like trees snapping which is why I went onto my back porch to see if that was the case), on top of that abundant cloud to ground lightning and some impressive thunder, torrential heavy rains along with the hail made it nearly impossible to see very far in distance during the peak of the storm. I got a little nervous at the beginning because it looked like the sky had a greenish tint to it and I we had just lost power and I was thinking to myself, "Don't tell me there's really going to be a tornado coming." Luckily it was a false alarm along with the 3 times we lost power and it automatically came back on. The thunder/lightning and heavy rain went on well past the squalline exiting, I don't think it calmed down until probably around 2am this morning. Before I went to sleep the power outages reported statewide was 147,000, but I'm sure it probably doubled that because the storms were sitting along I-75 in Atlanta when that report came in and it looked like the storms were intensifying once they started approaching Athens and Macon.

The winds today have already been howling, we even briefly lost power earlier this afternoon since the winds on average have been between 30-35mph and it's still howling out of the SSW around 30mph right now. Throw on another 50 to 60 from these storms we'll probably be seeing hurricane force winds. (At least that's my worst fear)

There's also a TVS (Tornado Vortex Signature) showing up in E. AL if it stays on the course of that track, it should scrape the southside of town near Hartsfield Int'l Airport.

There might be a lot of power out in A-Town tonight.  Time for me to find a flashlight!

Wow, that has to be the earliest footage Ive seen of TS01 from CD 1
Really? Then you'll be amazed when I post footage of TS from Jan 1st. :D

FYI - The first song is not production music. It's "Good Morning" by Craig Peyton.

Thanks for the song info, it's a catchy song.

I am looking forward to the warm front tomorrow. It should be close to 80. Last week was mostly rainy and cold. This will be a welcome change

We might tie a record high tomorrow before the strong storms move in that night, the forecast is for mid 80's. The record is 85 set in 1969. I don't like to see 80's this early, I wanna enjoy more 60's and 70's weather for at least a month longer.

I guess this severe outbreak is more significant than the one about a week ago? Why are they pre-empting for this one? :dunno:
WC is always on at this time on Sundays but indeed they did preempt today and i have the slightest idea as to why because with the way it seems this outbreak we have coming up is weaker than the one on Thursday but they didnt preempt for that one

I get the feeling this one will be a wildcard especially tomorrow, we might have some surprises on our hands.

@Alex - I don't think Peter Lik's show has anything to do with it, this is the most widespread severe weather outbreak we are expected to have so far this year affecting nearly half the country.

Everything Else Classic TWC / A WeatherStar4000 Meltdown At It's Best
« on: April 02, 2011, 07:39:47 PM »
I ran across this video today of the 4000 having several hiccups...
It kept relooping for at least almost 7 minutes in the video.
There's a catchy production music playing for about 2 1/2 minutes at the beginning, it also reloops the first time the 4000 reloops in the video.
At 1:08 mins in, the 4000 is terribly degraded.
The Travel Cities Forecast comes up frozen after the almanac and then starts moving from the forecast for Dallas onward.
Trammell Starks kicks in at around 3:08 mins in and plays for the rest of the video.
The Extended Travel Forecast pops up randomly twice briefly.

This video is from the evening of December 2, 1996

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC's new Rival?
« on: April 01, 2011, 03:56:33 PM »
I don't see them being a rival for TWC, but if it were to be successful and they could draw viewers away from TWC in large numbers maybe that wold be a wake up call for them, but like I said I don't think this will be successful. TWC is a monopoly in cable.

I was looking back at a video I had from May 2009 and I noticed at the last microsecond this frame of Jim looking very weird the way he's slouched in that chair at the end of the desk. Whatever he's looking at on that laptop certainly has all of his attention.  :P (This was when he, Nicole and Kevin were hosting YWT)

I don't understand why our school doesn't do tornado drills. Sure, they don't happen often or anything, but severe weather safety should still be known about in schools.
Our school has only done 1 tornado drill this year, and that was in December. In October, there really was a tornado warning and nobody knew where to go. It really is a good idea for schools to have at least 1 tornado, fire, and lockdown drill each quarter or trimester.
We have a lockdown and fire drill every month in the school year as required by the state of NJ. I think it's important that all states follow similar procedures as the safety of everyone can make a huge impact if a real fire or bomb did happen..

We have fire drills on a monthly basis too, we had a tornado drill last month for Severe Weather Awareness Week, I think they did a statewide Tornado Siren test that week also. We haven't had a bomb drill yet, we only had that once last year. Speaking of lockdown, my school was in code red today we didn't know if it was a drill or not, but apparently somebody did try to come into the school with a gun.
