General Discussion / NWS Online Survey
« on: June 09, 2011, 01:39:24 PM »
I saw this on their website today...

Quote
The NWS is undertaking research, once again this year, on how satisfied you are with our products and services and would appreciate your feedback. The purpose of this research is to help the NWS improve its services. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and need not be finished all at once. We also encourage you to take a moment and complete one or more of the additional sections focused on Climate, Fire Weather, Hydrology, and Tsunamis.

If you're interested in taking it, the link is below.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Here's a recent episode I've been working on the past few days typing up called "I Hate Thursdays". This was originally written in 2006 when I was in the 7th grade where the original title was "So You Had A Bad Day...". I changed it since it seems like for me Thursdays are usually when I have bad days or bad luck so I was inspired to rename it that instead. Below is an episode description of what it's about.

Daniel is having a bad Thursday from the moment he wakes up and is only getting worse as the day progresses, Jason is also not having a swell day at school, it’s so bad that he suffers food poisoning from the school lunch and has to have a major operation. Kara, who’s not only worried about Jason’s operation she’s also has forgotten to go to the store to pick up items for dinner when she runs into a not so friendly housewife and ends up dueling it out with her in the parking lot. Meanwhile as this is all happening, Jason escapes from the hospital confident that strange things are happening while he's being medicated, he runs into Melody when they are attacked by killer flying fire ants *Parody of the 1960’s movie “Birds” which becomes a reoccurring gag in ACTS II and III* After all of this chaos is taking place Daniel, completely stressed out when he gets home becomes so enraged from his bad day that he almost has a heartattack!

I feel so honored that I'm a character in the story. xD Keep it up, Tav. Great story.

Thank you and I'm happy that you're honored having your name being used. She's one of my favorite characters to write.  There's a few scenes I left out that involve her because I wasn't sure if the episode would be too long or not, but since it's  a few pages short I can add it in.

I didn't realize it until now, but Cheryl has been at WXIA-TV for almost a year now. It doesn't seem like it's been that long. This is from Sunday, June 5, 2011.

I'm not sure if this is the same system or not, but the 6z GFS shows a weak tropical storm/depression with abundant moisture making landfall around New Orleans on the 20th. It then heads north at the end of the run towards Illinois.

Could they be permanently moving these songs to the morning list? It doesn't seem like a goofup.

XL v1 Emulation Test - Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Project
(Much simpler to make in this program than when I used After Effects last year)

Still a work in progress. This is what I have so far...
Song featured here is "Lazy Days" by Trammell Starks
I used Jackson, MS as my testing site. There will be a completed K DE Flavor later this evening or tomorrow.

Cantore, Abrams, Bettes, and Roker are probably signed for life with that channel, the rest are probably going to be shown the door before long. Hate to say it, but I bet Viv Brown is the next one to hit the deck.
I too am worried about her! :(

i could give you a few reasons why she can't be touched.. although i rather not specify.. :)

Well, if you were going to go there, they let Eboni Deon go

They'll keep Vivian Brown to keep a certain quota, or as a token. Vivian is the only female that *ahem" looks a certain way. I can talk since I share the same complexion with her.  ;)

I disagree, they can easily fire her and replace her with a younger, beautiful black woman if they wanted to.

HD Local Forecast Concept - Narration/Metro Maps Added

One last update on this for awhile. I also made a few more changes pertaining to the LDL and the animation/transitions of the segments. There's one goofup in this video and that's The Week Ahead segment, I forgot to change a couple of things.

The next update
-Almanac
-Daypart Forecast

Song - Paul Taylor - Push to Start
The audio for this was ripped from a recording of an intelliStar video I recorded today.

Nice Job! I love the video backgrounds, could you tell me where you found them?

It's the same weather backgrounds used on the current IntelliStar. It was apart of an IntelliStar goodies files Martin posted here a couple of years ago. That's where I got them from.
Where were they posted?

He deleted that thread a while back I believe.

HD Local Forecast Concept Design Completed! - June 2011 Update
I made several changes, can you spot them?   :whistling:

TOP STORY HEADLINE: HEAT, HEAT, GO AWAY, COME AGAIN SOME OTHER DAY!
If this relentless heatwave is any indication of what this summer will be, I'm gonna have to resort to doing a rain dance in my front yard err...scratch that, the backyard. I don't want to draw too much attention from folks thinking I've lost my mind.  :P

Song - Bradley Joseph - Friday's Child (I changed the pitch in Audacity, that's why it sounds different.)
Flavor - KLM (A hybrid of the XL's K Flavor essential lineup (minus maps) extended to 2 minutes like the LM flavor)
-Current Conditions
-Weather Bulletin
-Local Observations
-Radar
-Air Quality
-Text Local Forecast
-The Week Ahead

* Each segment lasts a duration of 12 seconds.
Thoughts, opinion, and/or constructive criticism?  :dunno:

They didn't show it last night as they preempted programming for extended severe weather coverage. (dunno about overnight)

They showed it at midnight.

That Tropical Update Opener looks a hell of a lot better than the 2010 one. The transition to the palm trees swaying in the wind/rain is nice.
