Interesting P.O.V on TWC's Hurricane Irene Coverage Saturday.

Why Did I Watch Fourteen Hours Of The Weather Channel? I'm Not Sure.

That video of the people acting so disrespectful to Eric pisses me off to the highest extreme. :furious: Yes, I understand people desperately want their fame on TV, but I had no idea there was yet another streaker (clearly seen this time), plus other jerks who walked in front of Eric while he was doing his live shots! I don't care how famous people want to be, that was beyond unacceptable. I'm very distrubed to see such jerks. <_<

But alas, this is what our society today is like...

Well at least he stayed professional the whole time, I commend him for that. I certainly know I wouldn't have if it was me out there reporting..

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Katia

Our 11th named storm of the season is born!

Notice by early Sunday morning, Katia is already a Major Hurricane, She's certainly not playin' around either.

Btw, how is "Katia" pronounced? I've been pronouncing it as Ka-tee-ya.

0z Canadian is a CLOSE call for NYC, hits NE as it curves NW into Canada.

0z European looks to be a close call for the NE region too...

0z Canadian is interesting, might be the only global model hinting at another SE coast threat... (Look at Hour 240)

My first attempt ever at making a marine forecast product - IntelliStar. It's taken me 3 years since I've been making STAR emulations to make one, but I finally got around to doing it.

Compared to the original...

OCMs & Personalities / Re: New OCM- Bryan Norcross
« on: August 28, 2011, 11:27:58 PM »
It's been about a year since Mr. Norcross has been at TWC and I can honestly say that after a year of getting used to him, I don't like him. I tend to overanaylze things, but it seemed like he was annoyed about having to come into work to talk about Irene yesterday. On the other hand, I do like Dr. Rick Knabb, he and Carl work well together and provided some important information on the storm that usually gets brushed over.

Will Irene be retired or reused again in 2017?

That most likely won't be decided until next Spring.

EDIT: Yesterday and today after seeing all the devastating flooding and the fact that the death toll has increased to 37 today in the US (I death I know of in PR) I personally think Irene will be retired. Estimates are already approaching the 10 Billion mark in the US alone

now that the probability just shot up to about 100% i wonder what the track would look like.

FISH, but always subject to change. if we end up with a set up like we had w/ Irene, it's gonna be a double whammy for the east coast.

12z/18z GFS - Out to Sea (Atlantic High is very weak, curve north/NNE)

12z European - Out To Sea (Hits Bermuda hard though)

Just a reminder: Both models showed Irene hitting somewhere in the GOM around this time range...

My Storm Alert Mode 2011 Lower Thirds/ Live Bug (Rough Draft)

Sorry about the not so good picture. It might be me, but Eric looks like the next Jim Cantore in this picture...

I bumped that Eric Fisher thread that was pretty old, but I figured it would be ok since my post had to do with him reporting n Hurricane Irene and it was self titled so I didn't think starting a new thread made sense.

Hurricane Irene - MidAtlantic/Northeast Coverage 1

I'm curious to know what you all think of this. Hurricane Irene has proven that among Ike and Katrina, it doesn't matter what category a hurricane is, if you're dealing with a large hurricane that can be as intense as it was with a storm surge and pressure equaling a Category 2/3 which Dr. Rick Knabb alluded to numerous times before, during, and after Irene came in. So do you think the categories of hurricanes should be removed, or we should revise the categories to find a way to incorporate the amount of storm surge that's determined by the size/pressure of the hurricane?

Fast Bloomer...very little wind shear to tear it apart and no dry Saharan air in it's way. Not necessarily a bad thing, it might mean a fish if it develops too quickly. We'll see...if it develops maturely, it'll receive the "K" name "Katia".

I'm looking for a local on the 8s song I heard yesterday morning. Attached is a clip I took of it.

It's "Chasing In The Wind" by Matthew Shuman.
