General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?

49°F Cloudy. It was supposed to get into the mid 50s today, but that's obviously not going to happen now. Clouds have been hanging very low all day today. Rain is only a few hours away too. It's been a long time since we've had a decent rainfall.

TV Safety Straps...

Yeah, turns out I need these to lower the risk of my new HDTV toppling over. Something I would have never known had it not of been for the owner's manual mentioning it because it certainly wasn't mentioned online in the product description. <_<

Other than that, this HDTV is fantastic! I LOVE it! :D

This is something I have always wanted to do, but haven't until now. It's been just over 6 years (June 2008) since I've making STAR Emulations. Year after year, I've learned from my earlier mistakes, and improved technically and graphically overtime.

The video below highlights a WeatherSTAR4000 Emulation I made back in November 2008. Some of you who have known me here for a while may recognize it. Halfway through the video is the same 4000 emulation re-created in After Effects this week. The differences are very stark and drastic! Redoing this in After Effects allowed me to do some things graphically that I was not capable of doing in Powerpoint such as the TCF for example.

I use these logos in my 4000 emulations/simulator. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for though. :dunno:

No extended coverage of the winter storm? Checked at 10pm ET and long form was on.
The storm is important enough to name yet not important enough to extend coverage.

Dual feed perhaps?  :dunno:

Technically, I didn't buy this. It's actually a (soon to be) birthday gift for me from someone else.

Sceptre 40" 1080p HDTV (Being Home Delivered this week!)

http://www.walmart.com/ip/SCEPTRE-X405BV-FHDR-40-LED-Class-1080P-HDTV-with-ultra-slim-metal-brush-bezel-60Hz/27608624

I picked out this TV mainly because...
-It has 3 HDMI ports which comes in handy since I'll need one for my cable set up box, another for my Wii U, and a third possibly for a PS4 (still haven't decided if it's worth getting one or not yet) Although reading some of the reviews, some customers have said it has 4 HDMI ports. Either way 3 or 4 is good.

-I overlooked this at first, but this HDTV goes up to 1080p 60fps! Playing Mario Kart 8 (which runs at 60fps on single player mode) on this TV is going to be glorious compared to the 720p 30 fps HDTV I have right now! :D

-SWIVEL BASE. Enough said.

-Hey, it's energy efficient, nothing wrong with that.

*Walmart.com also had a 1 day sale going on for another Sceptre 40" HDTV for $199! (incredible deal and crazy to pass up on imo) That's the one I was going to get, but of course it was already out of stock. Go figure.

Have they always shown Special Weather Statements on the crawl? Perhaps I just never noticed before

Do you mean since the relaunch a year ago or in general? If you mean in general, they always showed SWS, but before the relaunch it was shown on an orange crawl. I *think* I've seen a SWS since the relaunch though.

Sorry to burst TWC's idea of their website, but it's not that new and it's not that amazing. All they did was make some slight layout rearrangements by placing all the forecast tabs/other info on the homepage. Although it is more convenient that way imo.

I bet this will make the rounds on late night talk shows. Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at Jim Cantore and his quick groin kicking reflex earlier this year.

Mine became error-free since yesterday. No problems this morning either.

I only watched it twice, but I thought he was fumbling around with a coffee cup, then the second time a camera.

Still funny either way.

Seeing that almost everyone here now has the IntelliSTAR 2 installed at their cable headends, I'm still amazed that my local headend still has not gotten one. I doubt Charter will get an IS2 within the next year.   I guess they either can't afford to invest in one or they're just not interested in one at this time, who knows?  :dunno:

That is weird, for all Charter headends down this way have the IS2.

A lot of Charter headends here in the northwest (e.g. The Dalles, Kennewick, Wenatchee) also have IS2 units but for some reason not yet Astoria. So do a few Comcast headends in this region, like Seattle and Vancouver (Washington).

Considering it took over 4 years for us to get the IS2, I mean even Marietta, which is about an hour away from Atlanta got the IS2 3 years ago. I think Marietta is served by Charter (not Comcast like ATL) Since there are cities/states not far from you that have it and are served by Charter Cable, I think it's possible you'll get the IS2 within the next year. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I agree.

Also, I caught this on my LF this morning:

Seems that text is only used instead of the hashtag whenever there is a weather alert. Also, the text on the advisory scroll is now black. HUGE improvement over the previous eye-hurting red color.

The black text update seems to be on the SD feed of TWC (at least that's the case here) Were getting a Wind Advisory crawl on the HD feed and it's red text.

EDIT: Speaking of Warning Crawls, I wish they were color coded like they used to be, (orange for wind advisories,  yellow for severe t'storm watches, etc.) but with additional colors like green for flood based weather bulletins.

Spoke too soon.

I would say 100% of the issues have been fixed, but now there's a new problem. The text on the right side of the text forecast is missing for Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night, but the weather icon and forecasted temperature is present on the left. Because of the missing text, those portions of the forecast is narration-less. Hey, at least the text "Tomorrow Night" has been correctly condensed so there's that. :P

Local on the 8s Intro and Welcome Screen is present (which resolved the cuing too early error)

The Space for icons used for holidays/events is present. In this case it's a clock icon for Daylight Savings Time. Yesterday for Halloween, the pumpkin icon was missing.

"For more information, stay on TWC" is present (which resolved the cuing too late error)

We've been stuck in the 40s all day today. We even saw our first flakes of the season last night/this morning in Atlanta. :D
Winds have been sustained in the 20-30mph range with wind gusts near or over tropical storm force keeping our wind chills in the 20s and 30s! :brr:

To put these temperatures in perspective, we were in the low to mid 80s last weekend. Old Man Winter offered us a Halloween trick and treat by slicing our temperatures right in half!
