Severe T'Storm/Tornado Watch Still Possible for TN & AL

via SPC (Storm Prediction Center) Mesoscale Discussion 143

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0143
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0549 PM CST WED FEB 22 2012

  AREAS AFFECTED...NE AL...SE TN...FAR NW AL

   CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

   VALID 222349Z - 230115Z

AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY INCREASE SOME OVER THE NEXT
FEW HOURS FROM MIDDLE TO ERN TN SWD ACROSS NRN AL AND FAR NW GA.
HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE WILL BE POSSIBLE. WW ISSUANCE MAY BE NECESSARY
   ACROSS THE REGION.

A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IS ONGOING ALONG AN AXIS OF
INSTABILITY WHERE MESOANALYSIS SHOWS MUCAPE VALUES FROM 250 TO 750
J/KG. THE STORMS ARE DEVELOPING IN A STRONGLY SHEARED ENVIRONMENT
WITH WSR-88D-VWPS SHOWING 0-6 KM SHEAR VALUES OF 70 TO 80 KT. THIS
COMBINED WITH INCREASING LARGE-SCALE ASCENT AS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH
APPROACHES FROM THE WEST AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES OF 7.0 TO
7.5 C/KM SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR A HAIL THREAT WITH THE STRONGER
CORES EMBEDDED IN THE LINE. EWD STORM MOTION OF 40 KT WILL HELP
CREATE A WIND DAMAGE THREAT ESPECIALLY AS THE LINE BECOMES NEARLY
   CONTINUOUS.
SUPERCELLS WITH AN ISOLATED TORNADO THREAT MAY ALSO
EXIST ON THE SRN END OF THE LINE WHERE INSTABILITY IS MAXIMIZED AND
THE LOW-LEVEL JET IS FORECAST TO STRENGTHEN EARLY THIS EVENING.

So have they disabled Vocal Local on all XL units nationwide? Does anyone know?

If that's the case they should do the same to the IS.

The whole purpose of the narration of the IS is so people who are visually impaired or have short attention spans can hear the forecast, they're not going to remove it. The XL was limited in narration anyway saying only what 3 phases for the CC, LF, and the EF. so it makes since that they removed it.

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Desktop "App"
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:02:01 PM »
i had it, uninstalled it because i really didnt like it that much and re downloaded the original weather channel desktop

couple of reasons why i didnt like TWC desktop App

1. gave the report for Newark not Fords, so i almost always saw the wrong weather
2. froze a lot
3. always had some sort of issue with it.

Same reasons I stopped using it.

Poor Dave. He was a good one. He is working as a shoe salesman at Macys. Hope he can get back into TV

Dang, our friend has been succumbed to this? I'm very disappointed. :( I was hoping after his short summer stint at WGCL-TV here about 3 years ago he must have found a better OCM gig at another city.

General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?
« on: February 19, 2012, 03:02:44 PM »
57.6 with heavy rain and thunder. First t-storm of the year for me.

Wow, really? We've had a quite a few thunderstorms this year, a couple strong too.

Right now it's cloudy and 53. I'm jealous of the snow taking place in W. VA and VA right now, I guess this is going to be the first winter in about 4 years where were not gettin' squat in measurable snowfall. This winter sucks. :(

Nice pic Donovan!

Speaking of fog, the other day (believe it was Monday) there was some patchy fog and we were very close to seeing freezing fog. That's one of the very rare weather phenomenons I have never witnessed, but temps were a few degrees too warm (upper 30s.). I did hear however parts of NE GA/Western NC/SC saw some freezing fog though and there was a light glaze of ice on tree branches.

General Discussion / Re: President Obama Threatening to cut NWS budgets

I guess that's where the philosophy of democracy should kick in. What cuts would benefit rather than harm the majority of us while at the same time reducing the deficit.

It's sad there's not enough funding for those RECON missions to be done for all storms, it would cut down on some of the confusion and save us from some migraines. :P

This is the final design of this concept, I also removed all animation.

Some other small changes
- I removed the time off of the orange/blue tab, leaving just the temp there.
- Changed the blue shapes on the "Right Now" screens from rectangles to modified parallelograms.
- Added the radar which I forgot to add in last time.

All info was accurate and valid as of February 15, 2012 7:58pm EDT.
