This isn't about video games, but since it is related to Nintendo (sad news unfortunately) I figured I would post it here anyway. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata died this weekend from cancer (bile duct). He was 55 years old.

You know what I found to be useless? The IS2jr., I mean really what the heck was the point of making this STAR unit? :dunno: If TWC's long term plan was to have the IS2 on both SD/HD feeds for all cable headends, why waste time making/implementing another STAR when they could have just upgraded the legacy STARs to IntelliStars for the time being.

I guess it's just one of those dumb things I can never seem to understand about TV networks.

Emulated and Modified IntelliStar2 (In Severe Weather Mode)

Similar in idea to Weatherscan's Severe Weather Mode from the early to mid 2000's.

Senate backpedals on the consolidation plan, however they're going ahead on a bill for the NWS to reform how they communicate severe weather warnings.

Happy Father's Day and Happy First Day of Summer! Today is the longest day of the year when it comes to sunlight. Enjoy it because after today the longer days will gradually become shorter and shorter....

Great concept, I think the second image does give a realistic idea of what Day Planner would look like if it still existed. I would suggest maybe trying out Weekend View or Your Weather Today.

Not a bad concept, I very much like it. If anything I personally think the SFX go on for a little too long but it's great!

Yeah, I think I'm going to keep it confined to the Now screen for about 3-5 seconds instead of having it play through the Alert screen also.

Wow, all this art is very good.

Thanks!

Wow! That's really good. I like the ideas for the background. It's cool.

Thanks, I had that demo reel that was posted on vimeo.com () in mind for that. I remember when I saw it a few months before the relaunch posted here how excited I was about how the new IntelliStar/IntelliStar2 could potentially look like. The animated BGs and weather effects are what I thought made them look so cool and unique. I was very disappointed to see TWC didn't keep that element of the demo concept for the final product.

Here's an update video, this is the result of what happens on a lazy, boring Sunday. :P

Emulated and Modified IntelliStar2 (Work in Progress)

! No longer available

New Things the Real IntelliStar2 Doesn't Have, but This One Does:

- An LDL

- A background that evolves according to the current conditions being reported. In this video, the desert background rapidly changes to show a developing thunderstorm in progress. (This feature will also appear for the local forecast screens) The background goes back to normal once the local forecast transitions to the next product after the "Now" screen which in this test video is the radar.

- Sound Effects (This feature will also appear for the local forecast screens)

- A radar that zooms in real time as it transitions from a regional view to a local view.

Things the Real IntelliStar2 Has, but This One Does Not:

- A Progress Timeline

- A Welcome Screen (I feel it's unnecessary, plus I forgot to add it anyway lol)

- The Weather Channel's logo no longer appears at the top left, but rather the bottom left with the LDL.

I heard the NX was basically an Ouya??

From my understanding it's suppose to be a device that bridges together gaming/membership accounts among tablets, smartphones, PCs, Wii U, and the 3DS. The only thing we don't know is if the NX is a console, a portable handheld, or a hybrid of both. We're not gonna get a clear answer until sometime next year anyway.

I was very unhappy when Wii discontinued online play.  The online services actually started to disappear less than a year after I bought it.  (Yes, I'm a late bloomer.)  I especially miss the online voting.
Oh you mean the Wii's "Everybody Votes Channel"? Oh man that's a classic. Yeah it is quite disappointing Wiiconnect24 was discontinued. I loved the Forecast Channel that was provided. I think WNI Weathernews provided weather conditions & forecasts for that channel. I wish the Wii U had the amazing channels that the Wii had.

I think Nintendo made a blunder with the WiiU.  It's not a bad machine in and of itself, but it's not what it could have been.  Disconnecting pretty much everything about the Wii (thus turning it into, basically, a Wii Mini, except for the Wii Store and the internet browser) to kind of force people to upgrade or do without... that was a mistake.  The fact that the upgrade seems like the project lost direction somewhere in the middle doesn't help, either.

I believe I remember reading an article a couple of years ago that said they didn't plan/develop the Wii U as extensively as they should have, in other words, I think they rushed it out to get a head start on Microsoft and Sony and figured since 100 million+ Wii consoles had been sold, most would automatically jump on board to the Wii U. They went from the best selling video game console in their history with the Wii to the worst selling video game console in their history with the Wii U. It may not even reach the Gamecube, which was the worst selling Nintendo home console before the Wii U came out. Some of the things that I have read about their next platform code named the "NX" makes me optimistic they won't be making some of the same mistakes again. I can't wait to hear more about this platform come 2016.
