Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Isaac

Notice the convection firing up from the NW, N, and NE sides. It's truly amazing how this thing has taken on a different shape every evening over the past week. Looks more like a textbook tropical cyclone than it ever has in it's entire lifetime.

Wasn't there some weird instrumental that sounded like a storm alert theme?
Yes, this has already been discussed  ;)
Well, it hasn't played anymore. It only played once at around the 2am hour since. Maybe they didn't like it.
It played at 2:28 PM ET today.

Coincidentally, I recorded and uploaded that LF. What luck.

@Localonthe8s, that's not true, I heard it play several times during different times of the day.

Maybe TWC feels vocal music isn't fitting for a hurricane or something? It is odd that even TWC thinks the vocals are tacky when they have many viewers so they're backing off the vocal music for now. I just find that suspicious, especially if the vocal music returns immediately after the Isaac hype dies.

That's what I was going to say! :P

I personally think it's pretty irreverent to have this up-beat "life is good" kind of vocal music when a hurricane is about to threaten lives and property.  It just isn't fitting, so they switch to instrumental music for the time being.  I also have a good feeling that vocals will return after they are out of "red mode."

(Of course, one thing that could really fix this problem would just be to use the Storm Alert music!! :poke:)

IF they use it, I think they want to wait until Isaac is actually a hurricane. I'm VERY surprised they even lit the studio red in the first place.

Bold prediction here: I believe we'll have Hurricane Isaac between the 11pm - 5am advisories given how things are trending tonight.

Isaac needs more time than you think, Tavores.  It has not developed a persistent inner core yet, and the wind field is rather large for a tropical storm.  You want to see a tightening up of that wind field and the development of an inner core, which would become the inner eyewall once it is a hurricane, to achieve overall intensification.  Furthermore, the inflow for Isaac in the southeast quadrant has been disrupted for the past few days by the mountains in Cuba.  It will do better once the inflow is further away from land.

I know Patrick, I wasn't really all that serious about it. I know large storms take an enormously long time to consolidate an eye, just look at how long this thing has been a tropical storm! Over a week I know, that's gotta be some kind of a record. :P Oh and speaking of an eye...about halfway there on this microwave image.

#NOAA42 radar suggests an eye is forming in #Isaac. It is elliptical with major axis WNW-ESE and diameter 30 nm. In major bands to west.

HRD/AOML/NOAA ‏@HRD_AOML_NOAA
#NOAA42 noticed a low level swirl of clouds as we passed through the center of #Isaac on this pass. Clouds and radar suggest eye forming.

HRD/AOML/NOAA ‏@HRD_AOML_NOAA
#NOAA42 is tracking west 100 nm north of #Isaac center just outside the major rainband in and out of sun. Huge cumulonimbus to our left.

I think that lower third is based off that bug they use during a developing/breaking news at the top left. It looks similar to it.

On another note about the red lit studio, anybody find it interesting they did that, but didn't do it for Irene? Seems rather peculiar, but maybe since the threat shifted towards New Orleans and the all too coincidental timing of Isaac around Katrina's 7th anniversary this Wednesday they felt they needed too just in case it does try to intensify quickly. :dunno:

EDIT: I noticed the Global Forecast Center is now red as well, it wasn't yesterday evening.

The background of the HD LDL is still blue yes, but the templates that display the weather info is dark red and has been since Thursday as I mentioned.

Concerning you question about Storm Alert, technically they already are in that mode if the studio is lit red, they just aren't using the music.
could you or someone else post a pic? I'm not following you but that could just be me

Notice where the Right Now conditions are, the template is dark red, normally it would be dark blue.

The studio is now red as of when I just tuned in at 5:54 ET.

Only thing left is to get the LDL in red mode

Which LDL? The HD LDL has already been red for a couple of days now.

They played some music that sounded like spooky Halloween music earlier today. It didn't sound as bad as the music in that video though.

EDIT: Jim Cantore to be relocated to New Orleans; Julie is staying put in Tampa.

Good call.

Paul Goodloe will be in Ft. Walden Beach, FL
