Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I've been doing a lot of complaining when it comes to this stuff, but I really wanna know. What was the point of spending half a billion dollars on a new studio if you're not going to use but a small corner of it for live programming now? Outside of those first 9 months when they went HD, they don't bother to use anything but the same desk in front of a video wall and a couple of green screens. Couldn't they have just done that in the old studio in the old building by renovating it and called it a day instead of wasting that money? :dunno:

39, Cloudy/Windy
NW at 17, gusting to 27mph
DP: 25

I woke to a very light dusting of snow this morning again, not as impressive as Sunday, but still impressive because I wasn't expecting it to happen. I found out a band of snow showers rolled in around 2-3am. My grandma said she saw it coming down pretty hard in the strong gusty winds.

If you're not on the backside of the front from this storm, the winds are no joke. Winds down at the airport are sustained from the WNW at 31 mph, gusting to 53mph! There have been some power outages reported, luckily we haven't been one of them surprisingly. Temp is 40 under cloudy skies.

I'm applying for a part time job at Target while I'm in school imp. I need one so I can have M-O-N-E-Y to save up for a C-A-R imp. I don't want to be dependent on mass transit forever, I really want to start driving so I can go places well outside of city limits which our mass transit doesn't do imp.

24°F Cloudy with Flurries

You're not going to find an early spring here, which prompted this funny joke in our office's forecast discussion this morning:

Quote
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION NEEDED FOR PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL...TIME FOR
THE OL GROUND HOG TO BE FURLOUGHED.

They should hire our state groundhog Gen. Lee in his place. He warned ya'll we had 6 more weeks of putting up with Old Man Winter mooching off of our food and water from our living room couch. :P

Local Forecast / Re: Squeezeback during Long Form
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:55:56 PM »
Honestly during long form I would prefer option 4 (the small LDL) for a LOT8s forecast only.  So in other words, what they have now is nice.  The ONLY thing I don't like is that those with the national feed only see a US city-by-city forecast, and the LDL only gets through a few cities at a time, so you may have to wait a while to see the forecast for your city show up.  But that would probably be a problem with all options.

I agree with Patrick that options 1 and 2 are very distracting to the long form show and have too much going on at the same time.  Plus, there is a lot of wasted space.

Though probably in the minority with this statement, I also am glad they don't show the LDL all the time during long form anymore.  To me and likely to an average viewer, I find it distracting to the show and find myself wanting to look at the LDL instead of the show. So their move in removing it was a good idea IMO.

Somehow I find that hard to believe.....for anybody. You mean to tell me there are people out there who would get a kick out of watching people go iceberg fishing and dive for reefs over a forecast?

If TWC would bother to keep some uniformity across all platforms, the LFs would probably look like this. (on the SD feed anyway)

Out of curiosity, anyone know the font that's being used for Saturday in IceManNYR's image posted above?

EDIT: I was thinking Verdana or something similar... :dunno:

Well, well well, color me impressed it's still snowing (down at the airport that is)  :thrilled: I thought it would have ended by now, but the radar says otherwise...

Atlanta - 35, Partly Cloudy
Hartsfield Int'l Airport - 36, Light Snow

The big LDL would be fine during taped programming, but during live programming I think the small LDL is fine.

39, cloudy very light snow or "snizzle" if you prefer that. :P

^I like events like this where we get snow showers to develop and slide far SE from a NW wind flow. It's almost like a Southern style version of Lake Effect Snow. I picked up 1/2 inch of snow out of an event like this back in Dec. 2010.

I'm so glad it never snows here along the southern Washington coastline   It snowed a lot during the past winters back when I used to live in Spokane. There was so much snow that I couldn't even dig out my own car so that I could go run errands. Now those days are over for me since I don't live in Spokane anymore.

Of course, there was an occasional nasty windstorm here in Long Beach during the past few months, but at least I don't have to shovel or dig out my car from 12+ inches of heavy wet snow   B)  :P

You've made something obviously clear: I need to move to Spokane. Your snow pain would be my snow paradise. :D
