Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC
« on: April 06, 2013, 01:07:49 AM »
An LDL will suffice just fine imo.

For space, maybe.  But for information... that's a different story.  The Weather Channel SHOULD have actual weather information.  The less there is in programming, the more there should be with LDL/LDA.

My post is mainly speaking for those who have the IS2. I believe that LDL provides plenty of information that most folks would want to see and need for multiple locations in one area. (unless you also want to see a radar up on screen like on the 33% LDL) Unfortunately for those w/ legacy STARs you're out of luck because TWC isn't going to back track to accommodate them.

I agree with Andy that the LDA would be fine for taped programming, that's the only plausible way I would be ok with the idea of it being used. I just don't like the concept of it during live programming, I believe all of that information cluttering the screen would be distracting and can easily be condensed to an LDL format.

I agree.  I know I'm in a minority when I say the LDA (with or without sidebar) is something I enjoyed when it debuted.  It provided SO much more information than the standard LDL.  Unfortunately, too many people complained that it made the video portion of the screen too small and "unimportant."

Given the importance TWC places on live weather programming these days, I wonder how many people would change their opinions to have more information in the LDA again...

My opinion hasn't and won't change either way. I hate LDAs on any HD channel, it really takes away from the fact that you're looking at an HD channel when you have all that crap up there. Too much information is just as bad as too little information. An LDL will suffice just fine imo.

Been working on my project for Photoshop (Rastering) class. This is just the first part, I haven't gotten deep into the Photoshop elements of it yet. The project is supposed to be for an ad campaign of our own made up product. I chose to do a shoe line I called "ZODIACS" which is pretty self explanatory, your zodiac sign is represented on your customized shoe. The first poster shows all signs customized in different color schemes. I'm a Sagittarius so the sample for that one is the green/lime green shoe. It might be hard to see the signs since I had to scale the image down.

This is the sketch I drew just to give my teacher an idea of what I was going for, I kinda went in a 180 with this project thanks to some suggestions from her.

I have to present this on Tuesday, April 9th so I'm gonna be busy putting the finishing touches on this off and on this weekend. I'll share the finalized project with you all after it's graded.

Happy Endings
My sister and I were watching the same thing yesterday. It was our first time watching it. We already love the show. Too bad it doesn't have much of a chance at survival when it comes to ratings. Not to mention ABC gave it the Friday night death slot. :/

Right now, I'm watching How I Met Your Mother.

Last night was the first time I've seen it, it's a funny show imo, but it seems to be one of those underdog shows that's having a really hard time gaining steam. From what I've read ABC is very invested in this show, but the move to Fri nights is a little suspicious unless they think it has a better chance to build up an audience w/o too much competition compared to any other night in the work week.

EDIT: Come to think of it, this show would probably fit better on a cable network than on a major network if it's averaging 3 mil. viewers. Maybe TBS or Comedy Central? TBS picked up Cougartown from ABC after it got cancelled just like TNT picked up Southland after NBC canned it. It could happen.

It is very sad, and I feel so bad for the friends and family of the victims.
My advice is, take nothing for granted, because you don't really know when you will perish.

Also, I believe there should be stricter gun regulations on those who have mental illnesses and/or a prior criminal record. They shouldn't be permitted to have guns. Even though I'm a conservative in general, this is one topic where I disagree on.

Good luck with that and I mean it. How many times have we said this during a mass shooting/killing and what has been done? Not a darn thing. I really wanna believe we can get some action done on this issue, but I'm pessimistic about it.

BUMP

Sadly, I was right just as I suspected. :itsok: I knew the other proposals didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at passing the Senate or House, but now we'll be damn lucky if we even get the background checks passed eventhough it had the largest support of any gun control proposal. What a pathetic congress.

TWC Fan Art / Re: TWCJim's Artwork
« on: March 27, 2013, 06:48:20 PM »

This artwork took me two days to make. It's a fake Weatherscan for Astoria via Charter Communications. It was recreated based on a real Wxscan image I found on SiliconDust. The radar is from weather.com, and the image of the Astoria-Megler Bridge was taken by myself a few months ago. The graphics aren't as technically accurate as the real thing, but I tried my best to re-create them as best as I can.  What do you guys think?

Are you serious? That's excellent work, pretty dead on if you ask me.
