General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch
« on: April 12, 2013, 05:45:49 PM »
We just lost power 15 minutes ago due to the storms moving through... Looks like its gonna be a long night.

That sucks, hopefully you will or have gotten your power back on.

Been working on my project for Photoshop (Rastering) class. This is just the first part, I haven't gotten deep into the Photoshop elements of it yet. The project is supposed to be for an ad campaign of our own made up product. I chose to do a shoe line I called "ZODIACS" which is pretty self explanatory, your zodiac sign is represented on your customized shoe. The first poster shows all signs customized in different color schemes. I'm a Sagittarius so the sample for that one is the green/lime green shoe. It might be hard to see the signs since I had to scale the image down.

This is the sketch I drew just to give my teacher an idea of what I was going for, I kinda went in a 180 with this project thanks to some suggestions from her.

I have to present this on Tuesday, April 9th so I'm gonna be busy putting the finishing touches on this off and on this weekend. I'll share the finalized project with you all after it's graded.

I got a 98!  :thrilled:

I posted the JPEG files of the project below.

I mentioned once before how I was surprised the IS didn't have airport products since it had traffic products so this is my concept of what at least one airport product might have been configured like on the IS.

General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?
« on: April 09, 2013, 09:12:39 PM »
Oklahoma has awesome weather. It's always fun and interesting there much more so than it is here. :( I still to this day wish I could I have been there in person to experience the blizzard OKC had on Christmas Eve 2009.

Right now it's 73 and partly cloudy. Tomorrow will reach the low 80s before severe weather arrives on Thursday. After that departs, we fall back to around to slightly below average (upper 60s to low 70s) for the weekend.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I'm pumped for Hurricane Season! I enjoy following that much more than the Severe Weather Season because you have more time to watch tropical cyclones evolve and MUCH more time to prepare. With tornadoes, everything evolves too suddenly and you have very little time to prepare and react to the situation.

Although it has it's downsides, it can get REALLY frustrating when you have ANY hint of dry air or wind shear that greatly complicates the forecast.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC

It defeats the whole purpose of having HD cameras when the image is compressed.

+1 My sentiments exactly.

Legacy STAR units are dead. Its only a matter of time, probably within the next 12-24 months before the old backend feed is killed. Most of the units are probably held together by dust and its frankly a miracle that they are still functioning as well as they are. I'm sad to see them go but servicing and running 20+ year old computers isn't practical, profitable or sensible. Even the current IS hardware will likely be revised in the coming years as that hardware is approaching nearly a decades worth of use.

Very true. Its part of the reason why the Local on the 8s has changed to a simpler form. When the IS launched it was all about features, features, features! Bus forecasts, ski forecasts, getaway forecasts, etc. Now its a more concise set of information geared toward whats relevant to the user.

I agree with both of these statements also. I've been saying the same thing about the IS for a while now how it was considered revolutionary compared to it's predecessors, but now even the IS feels quite outdated and it probably won't be long before it's updated. The only thing that's unfortunate is I haven't been able to see a legacy STAR and probably never will in person. :hmm:

EDIT: I know this video has been shared here like a dozen times, but every time a discussion about TWC's graphics come up all I can think about is why the hell didn't they use THESE? I know it was just a concept/idea for their HD launch, but it was perfect and it worked. Oh btw, at 10, 22, and 28 seconds in, THAT'S how they should use 3D graphics, not that Powerpoint garbage they're using now. The best graphics is 30 seconds in with Stephanie, that would have looked really awesome in HD with the city backdrop transitioning from day to night like that.

Their graphics are getting worse and worse. I really can't stand that whole 3D junk they're doing. Probably because they go into overkill with it which turns me off.

Another song they used to play to death, but no longer ever play again. Speaking of playing a song to death, I'm more than certain What I Got takes the trophy home every time in that category.  We get it TWC you love What I Got, it wouldn't kill you to give that song a rest for a couple of years.

They seem to be rolling out a heck of a lot faster for Charter subscribers than any other cable companies that I've seen posted in this thread. Not just over the past few months, but since it's been out of the beta stages.

I hate to be a wx weenie and ask this, but how is this event shaping up for N. GA? Not very good at analyzing severe weather on the computer models.

Didn't get a chance to comment on this back on Thursday, but it was freaking COLD, Rainy, and Windy that day, if it had of been 5-10 degrees colder it most likely would have been snowing instead. We were stuck in a cold wedge of 40s the whole day.

Right now it's 58 and partly cloudy. Spring wx looks to be staying for a while with our first 80 degree day possible on Tuesday which only means one thing: TIME TO BREAK OUT THE SHORTS, FLIP FLOPS, AND SHADES!  B)

Agree to disagree I suppose. I still think the LDA is a terrible idea and CNBC just made the perfect case for it.That's 100x worse than the LDA TWC had. Where do you even begin to focus your eyes at what information? :dunno:

The Game Room / Re: What Are You Watching Right Now?
« on: April 06, 2013, 01:11:06 AM »
See? What did I tell you, that's EXACTLY what's going to happen to that show. ABC cans it, USA picks it up for a 4th season so it can be syndicated and they can make $$$. That's how the business works.
