The Weather Channel Sale Wraps
Landmark Communications concludes sale of The Weather Channel to NBC Universal, two private-equity groups.

By Robert Marich -- Broadcasting & Cable, 9/12/2008 12:16:00 PM
Landmark Communications said Friday that it concluded the sale of The Weather Channel to NBC Universal and two private-equity groups in what previously described as a nearly $3.5 billion transaction.

NBCU’s partners are Blackstone Group and Bain Capital. The TWC assets include the cable network, weather.com, Weather Services International, Enterprise Electronics and Canadian weather outfit Pelmorex.

NBCU and its two partners won an auction in early July to buy TWC.

In Friday’s statement, Landmark also said it transferred the company’s other businesses -- which are all earmarked to be sold -- to a new entity named Landmark Media Enterprises. LME’s executive lineup is the same as Landmark Communications.

Landmark has a deal pending to sell its Nashville, Tenn., CBS affiliate, WTVF-TV, to Bonten Media Group, ahd the company said it is looking for a buyer for CBS affiliate KLAS in Las Vegas.

TWC and your Cable Company / Is cable TV going downhill?
« on: September 13, 2008, 02:35:49 AM »
Ever since when TWC was relaunched back in 2005, cable TV is going downhill, and TWC isn't the only one. Do you think cable TV is declining? I think it is personaly because of the lack of good programing, good channels, and higher cable rates. I used to watch TWC all the time until 2005 (shortly before the relaunch). Another win for network television. What do you guys think?

Here's what I remembered that day:

I just turned 12 eleven days earlier. I was in 5th grade at the time and it all started when my P.E. class went outside to the softball field. Just like how it was in both New York City and Arlington, VA (the city from where the Pentegon got hit), it was a nice clear sunny day. My P.E. class was playing either baseball or softball (I can't remember), but when the bell ringed, we walked back to our homeroom.

As I walked by through one of the hallways, I saw a TV that was tuned to CBS and they were covering a special report. I didn't know what was going on. My teachers acted so calm that day, like it never happened. I knew something strange was going on.

Later that morning, I went to the office (but I can't remember why I went there). In the room that was next to the office, their was an open door that had another TV that was tuned to NBC. I still didn't know what was going on since their was a special report on TV.

Later that afternoon, my mom was picking me up from school. She even told what was going on to my Princepal. When I first heard about what was going on that morning, I orginaly thought that some plane crashed at a mall in New York City. Instead, I found out that the World Trade Center collaped, plus another plane crashed at the Pentegon and lastly, a third plane crashing in Pennsylvania. When I got to the van, we were listening to NPR. Then when we got home, I was watching the news all day and all night.

Speaking of news... I was woundering, did TWC interupt their 24 hour weather coverige with live news coverige from one of the news stations?

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast Sucks.

The other day, I tryed to disconecting our cable hook-up. I already broke the digital cable box on accendent. I was trying to look at the inside by taking apart the case, but I was unable to because they used some special type of screws.  :doh2: We don't even have those tools. My parents work at AT&T and we only have their internet and phone service. What's not avaiable is U-Verse and were stuck with Comcast. I've tryed to disconect our cable hook-up from all of our TVs. I even knew where the master hook-up was. I tryed to disconect in time, but I got in trouble with my mom.
