TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Cable Providers
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:30:48 AM »
What can I say... Comcast.

My old cable company had so many name changes over the years. Around here in central Illinois, it was orginaly General Electric Cable back in the 1970s. Then it became UA Cablevsion, and then TCI, and later AT&T Broadband, and then Insight Communications, and now Comcast even since 2008.

I'm glad we switched (even though I miss my IntelliSTAR).

Weather Center really started in 1998. I'm guessing they took that concept from ESPN's Sportscenter.

Local Forecast / Re: Intellistar- Do you like the current version?
« on: March 12, 2009, 11:21:52 PM »
I like the first version because it was eaiser to see and had the time lapse bar on the radar. Two things I hate about the current version is that transitional effect on the bottom bar and the sound effects for the 36 hour forecast. The one thing I liked about version one is that one voice clip of Allen Jackson whenever he says: "Your local Doppler radar" instead of "Our local Doppler radar." I think its kind of annoying.

My all-time favorite is "You Need Us, For Everything You Do." I even love second version of the theme music.

Theres one thats in Peoria, IL from a Mediacom headend, and its in good shape!

Back when we had cable, our provider was Comcast and they have always seem to be up to date with the WeatherSTARs. We already lost our 4000 back in 1999.

Heres some video I recorded from our IntelliSTAR (22878). The video above was taken last October while the video below was recored from April 2007.

I just hope Mediacom doesn't upgrade their 4000!

Could NBCU possibly be buying them out?

Local Forecast / Re: Travel Cities
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:37:32 AM »
Peoria's IntelliSTAR (22878) has:
  • Chicago
  • Minneapolis
  • Indinapolis
Its kind of strange how it has Minneapolis on ours. The Twin Cities is far away. They should of put St. Louis.

I think TWC's best years were 1986-96.

But they could of at least kept NBC Weather Plus alive and move all of the live TWC shows (like WeatherCenter) to NBC Weather Plus and all of the documentries on TWC. That way, TWC would only show weather-related documentries and no lfs.
