I agree, big corprations are evil.
Thats not a fair statement. There are plenty of good big corporations/companies
But NBC is evil.
That works :P
Look, I agree that not all big corperations are evil, I just think NBC is since they ruined TWC.
NBC didnt ruin all of TWC.. yes they put Al Roker on it but is it NBCs on what segments they air and how the schedule is arranged?

Yeah, to be fair, TWC were ruining themselves before NBC got to them. They were responsible for starting things like propagandizing Global Warming by slamming it in our faces every chance they got when Dr. Heidi Cullen was there pre-NBC. (Not to say that Global Warming is real or fake, but I didn't like to have to constantly hear about how driving like 5 miles to a Mc Donalds will mean losing thousands of ice caps in the arctic.)
TWC has been declining ever since the 2005 relaunch. The NBC buyout only sped up that decline.

Then again, this has probably been said so many times before.
I agree that TWC was aready declining since the logo change five years ago. Even Weatherscan isn't the same anymore, (I personaly perfered it back durring the XL and early Intellistar days, I don't like how they added so much stuff running at once on Weatherscan).

Even shortly before NBC's takeover, the HD overhaul back in 2008 made things worse (even in HD). I still think TWC is going to continue to add more long form programing and less weather coverage.

Whatever the case may be, TWC has become a cash cow. That wasn't the case back in their early days.
That's what all companies are nowadays.
That's true, indeed.

I still think they're into news and other crap you can turn to CNN or Entertainment Tonight. Earlier this morning on TWC, some news lady from NBC started talking about Justin Bieber's album.
News = Views = $$
Not to mention, Longform = Views = $$

Local Forecast / Stock footage used in Local Forecast intro? (1991-95)
« on: September 26, 2010, 12:38:17 AM »
While I was looking at some old videos from a website called Dailymotion, I came across an old CNN station ID clip from 1987. If you notice the mountain background, it kind of looks like the one that was used in the LF intro that TWC used from 1991-95.

See video here:
CNN identification 1987 w/ phone-dial sound

Local Forecast intro:

So I wonder, did TWC used recycled stock footage that was also used on CNN?

I did remember seeing our XL earlier in March 2004, but I think they replaced sometime around late March. I also can't remember if they changed the ID number once when we got our IntelliStar.

I always woundered what had happened durring the Local Forecasts if the local WeatherSTAR fails back in 1982-85.

It's written somewhere on the "TWC Classics" homepage, but I believe it was around 1987 or 1988 when the earliest version of "Travel Cities Forecast" appeared on the national feed "underneath" the WeatherStar.  Back then, it was just a black screen with white text that literally appeared line by line and scrolled up - nothing physically attractive at all, even by WeatherStar III standards.  (And it didn't look like it was Star technology that was producing this.)  It quickly mellowed out into the WeatherStar 4000-style text version, before converting to the graphics version at the same time the local WeatherStar 4000 text "Travel Cities Forecast" became the graphic "Travel Forecast for..." page.

Off the top of my head, I'm trying to think when this was replaced with specially-produced maps that were broadcast on the national feed.  1995 at the absolute latest, I believe.

Oh, and how about "Tri-State Weather" and "Prime Time Tonight"?  I always found myself hoping for a Star failure at :27 and :57 past the hour.  And, yes, sometimes it happened! :)  Amazing to think that TWC could devote THREE minutes to a local forecast back then!!
At the earliest for the satellite version of the looping "Travel Cities Forecast" WeatherSTAR 4000, I beleve it came out some time between August-September 1990 (likely around the same time when the local cable version of the 4000 started displaying the "Travel Cities Forecast" banner on top of the screen around mid-August 1990). I think TWC would continue using the satellite 4000 up until either 1998 or 1999.

As for the early days of the LFs, maybe it was just a plain black screen with only audio playing durring the LFs if there was either no WeatherSTAR I/II hooked up or if it fails to cue its LF.
