Another FreewayJim video I came across recently features "Eighteen" by Pat Metheny Group. This song was previously featured from the March 2000 LF playlist.
13-03 Kansas City - Eighteen over Five

I also heard "Velas" by Quincy Jones featured on SonicTap Jazz yesterday. That one was from one of the December 1983 clips.

I'm back from my break with family.  Hope all of you are well during the first days of this summer.

After speaking with Tavores, the winner of Round 2 at Hartford, CT (KBDL), I have the Round 3 city ready for our forecasting contest:  Peoria, IL (KPIA).  We can start it next week in hopes that it will accommodate more participation this time.
What's the forecasting contest for?

Here's a great example of a channel being SD Fail Safe...

This is the HD feed (ch. 813) from myatltv (sister station to our NBC affiliate; formerly theWB) looks perfectly fine right?

The problem lies on the SD feed which is ch. 13. It's been cropped or stretched, either way done terribly.

THIS is the reason I hate watching channels that are available in HD in SD, you get crap like this. Couldn't they had just letterboxed it instead? :dunno:

The HD transition is already been a mess for years now. It looks like your local NBC affiliate no longer supports 4:3-safe crop-friendly graphics. I always hate it when networks that are broadcasting in HD drops their 4:3-safe crop-friendly graphics and goes completely full-blown 16:9 widescreen. CNN, HLN, Fox News, ESPN, and Fox Sports doesn't even support 4:3 safe graphics anymore. That really annoys me when it comes to backwards-compatibility on older analog 4:3 SD only TVs. I wish FCC would made a requirement for all broadcasters to provide 4:3-safe backwards compatibility.

That's beautiful! I miss those 2003-05 "wave"-like graphics.

Lately, I seem to be hearing more and more classic TWC songs featured on the Sonic Tap smooth jazz channel again. This time, I heard "Night Flight" by Joe Sample. I forget what playlist it was from, but I recall seeing that song featured in one of The Weather Chazz's "Wayback Playback" episodes from one of the 1992 playlists (it might of been from April '92, but I can't remember).

Earlier this afternoon, while I had the Sonic Tap smooth jazz audio channel on again, I heard "James" by Pat Metheny Group. This was previously featured in the November 2003 LF playlist as seen in this video.

Vic, I hope you realize that is Eltiempo10's XL video from 2004 that some random teenybopper took a video of with his camera with a different song dubbed in...

Yeah, not sure what the purpose of the video is.  The title says "Weather Channel XL 2013" but the date on the XL is June 10, which hasn't even happened yet.  So obviously it's not from this year.
Plus, June 10 is going to be on a Monday this year too.  ;)

A couple of days ago, I was listing to the Sonic Tap smooth jazz audio channel on DirecTV and while I had it on, Sonic Tap featured "Drive" by Russ Freeman. That song was previously featured in the June 2001, October 2002, and April 2003 LF playlists. Another historic LF song that I heard recently was FreewayJim's most recent video from Cincinnati on YouTube. (I've personally have also been interested in roadways and Interstate/U.S. highways routes and road signs).

Cincinnati, OH: Freeway Tour Dusk to Dark

The song that's featured was "Are You Going with Me?" by Pat Metheny Group. This was previously featured on most of the 1988 LF playlists as an "O" flavor song.

I know I'm probably one of a quickly dwindling number of people who still own a Wii and enjoy the voting and Mii contests, but when I found out today that the WiiConnect24 service will be shut down at the end of June my reaction was a mix of sadness and shock.

I've only owned my Wii for 8 months, but it's the little things that one grows to enjoy, and I've really enjoyed these little features.  If nothing else, even on my busiest days, I've always been able to find a few minutes to spend voting, making a Mii for the contest, or even just reading the news.  In about 9 weeks I won't be able to do that anymore.
My brother and I both own one too. We had ours for nearly five years, and I too have always liked to look at the interactive features. One of the first Wii games that I owned ironically was Pokémon Battle Revolution (I originally got it as a Christmas gift back in 2007, despite of all the negative reviews of that game, but hey, I'm a Pokémon fan anyway).  I didn't knew they were eventually going to shut down the service.

Maybe I'm just too old-fashioned, but a "full" local forecast for me is three minutes.

Now let's not get greedy.  :P

Two minutes would be good enough for me to watch it more often, and also respect TWC for a change instead of criticizing the network. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they do return.
If only those five or six minute overnight LFs would return.   I've always liked the idea of a long overnight LF like how it was between 1987-91.

I think the Taiganet post was absolutely false. After all, the member who posted it was none other than our little friend obsessed with "witchoowa" (and y'all know exactly who I am talking about)
What's the "witchoowa"?
