Still making my way around the board, so I just came across this!  Thanks for the tip!  I signed up and registered! (Do you think I can add it to my Tampa Weather Examiner website as a link?  I want to stress that I will *NOT* notify everyone that he runs the site.  Just wanted to add it to my "WX Forums" section!)

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: October 27, 2009, 12:04:50 AM »
I'm starting to go into wunderground. I hardly check TWC anymore.
It just looks like TWC isnt too serious about the upcoming nor'easters like in the previous years. Once some wacky story like this pops up they immediately go into non-stop coverage like Storm Alert coverage. Seriously, we don't want this.

I use wunderground.com all the time.  I really started using it when I lived in Arizona.  I could zoom in on the radar, and get a better look at the outflow boundaries from the dust storms, and the direction in which the storms were moving!  It helped me get some (albeit) shaky lightning pictures that I've been trying to get.  And, to be honest with you, I'll use them to track storms here in Florida.  (Although, I downloaded the Weather Toolkit for my laptop, and so far, it's pretty neat!)

Exactly. There's Groundhog Day, The Day After Tomorrow, Twister, (I want to say The Weather Man, but that's R-rated soo...yeah. :P), do the HAVE to choose March Of The Penguins and those other two? Geez.
:rofl2:  I totally forgot about "Groundhog Day!"  "March of the Penguins" might not actually be too bad, because they could talk about the extreme weather conditions in Antarctica.  And, it's a tear-jerker... At least for me!  As sad as it is, because it has no meteorological merit, "Twister" was one of the reasons I got interested in weather! I wanted to be a storm chaser...

Programming and Graphics / Re: Wake Up With Al

Not a bad show, in my opinion.  Both are very good personalities for the morning.  The only thing I don't understand is why they replay it later in the morning.

They play it again at 10 ET because it's 7 AM in the west (where I'm at).
True.  I guess I didn't really think about that, because when I was in Arizona, I'd work until about midnight or so, and catch part of it when I was going to sleep at 3 a.m.!  (6 a.m. EST)  That time will change when EST goes into daylight saving time and Arizona doesn't!

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Who here gets TWC HD?
« on: October 23, 2009, 07:28:41 PM »
Thanks, everyone!

I figured it was mainly available on a dish.  I've had Comcast, Cox and now Bright House, and none of them offered TWC in HD!   :dunno:  I guess the cable providers don't think it's in their best interest?

Thanks very much!

TWC and your Cable Company / Who here gets TWC HD?
« on: October 23, 2009, 02:54:52 PM »
Hi there!

I'm new to the board, so sorry if this has already been answered!  I tried posting in a previous HD topic, and since no one has posted in a while, it asked if I was still sure I wanted to post.  I wasn't...   <_<

So, who here gets TWC HD?  I've lived in 3 separate cities now, and not one of the cable companies has carried the HD version.  I'd like to see the HD set in HD...

Thanks!
~ A

I wondered about that.  With the exception of Miley Cyrus and George Hamilton, most of the folks who wake up with Al are from NBC...

Not a bad show, in my opinion.  Both are very good personalities for the morning.  The only thing I don't understand is why they replay it later in the morning.

^ ^ I thought they were, too.  Although, I thought they were offering up live shots with independent stations.  An independently-owned station where I used to work used to get live shots from them all the time during hurricane season.  It was kind of like the CNN reporter availability, or the network availability to their affiliates.

So, maybe this is just soley NBC affiliates, and no longer independent stations?

I understand why they're doing a movie night on Friday nights.  But, at the same time, I don't think it's a stellar idea.  And, to be honest, I don't see it lasting very long.  There aren't too many weather movies out there, to begin with.

But, we'll see.

I'm a little late to the party, but there's still 15 minutes left, here on the east coast!  So -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!     <---I've been wanting to use that little guy.

Hope it was awesome!  And, you're tweet is correct -- no matter how old you are (*cough* 27) birthday cake is always good!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

General Discussion / Re: Anyone here use Pandora?
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:15:32 AM »
I do!  A former co-worker of mine turned me onto it!  And, if you've got a Blackberry, there's a Pandora application for your phone!

It's one of the best free music sites I've seen!  And, when I'd get stressed at work, I'm not going to lie -- I'd put on my headphones and listen to a few songs while writing!    <_<

Anistorm ~ Oh, sweet!  Where near Arizona do you live?  Technically, I lived in Glendale, and was there for 2 years.  I worked for the CBS affiliate there.  I think a monsoon storm is an awesome experience.  The dust storms, the lightning, etc.  Storms there are much different than here in Florida.

Mames ~ That's awesome about Local on the 8s helping you read!  I used to watch TWC 24/7 when I was in high school!

Hiya!

Thanks very much!  You are way to sweet!   :D

I'm Andrea, and I'm a news producer/weather writer.  I'm currently in between producing jobs, but I'm freelancing for the Examiner.com as their Tampa Weather Examiner.

I am a self-proclaimed weather nerd and trained spotter with the National Weather Service.

Love the site!
And, feel free to follow me on Twitter!  I'd love to hear from ya!

ETA:  I just moved back to Florida from Phoenix, Arizona.  I'd love to chat monsoon with any Arizona peeps out there!  That's probably the most interesting weather experience I've ever had!

Local Forecast / Re: Song ID Thread

I've only heard it twice, so I could be wrong, but has anyone else heard a song by "Sublime" on their Local on the 8s?
