Local Forecast / Expanded Local on the 8s
« on: June 01, 2010, 01:51:50 AM »
Here is a video clip from last week of Jeff Morrow's Expanded Local on the 8s segment he does here every weekday morning from 7-9am at:10 and :40 after. He uses a variety of customized, local  maps during each segment. Some segments are geared more toward Metro Pittsburgh (current conditions fly through of Allegheny county, etc), while this recording has more regional maps.

TWC Fan Art / Tyler's HD Concepts
« on: April 11, 2010, 02:45:20 PM »
Recently, I have come up with 3 HD local forecast concepts. I have decided to move forward with the third one, and create an entire animated LF out of that design. What do you think (about any of the concepts)? There will be no LDL.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Welcome to the Tech Support Forum
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:09:50 PM »
Welcome to the new Tech Support area! As many of you know, the STAR Team has been present over at TWC Classics for a few years now. However, with the merger of the forums, TWC Today & TWC Classics would like to welcome the team to the newly merged site! From this point forward, please post all tech support questions and concerns in this forum. The STAR Team has been notified of the merger, and will visit here as much as time permits, just as they did at TWC Classics.

Please not the rules of the forum will be strictly enforced. The same rules still apply: repeated suggestions for changes are not allowed;  also, please refrain from posts where your STAR missed a LF, this is normal. Don't report a LF outage unless it is for a sustained amount of time. And, absolutely NO communication with the STAR Team is permitted. PMing or emailing the STAR Team will result in a suspension. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your cooperation!

The complete rules and guidelines  are available here: https://twctodayforums.com/forums/index.php?topic=2781.0

TWC and your Cable Company / Comcast Rebranding Services to "xfinity"
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:21:49 PM »
Interesting move. I doubt it will attract new customers. It's mainly to compete with FiOS.

General Discussion / Post-Secondary Education Tax

I'm interested in everyone's opinions on this. I understand the Mayor's rational behind this - but maybe a flat fee needs to be worked out to make the tax more fair. Do you have anything like this in your city?

BTW - I don't attend school within the City of Pittsburgh so this wouldn't affect me.

Programming and Graphics / Weather Channel To Share With NBC Affiliates

Saw this one coming a long time ago...

Weather Channel To Share With NBC Affiliates

Will give and grab content through "NewsChannel"
By Michael Malone -- Broadcasting & Cable, 9/22/2009 10:14:49 AM EDT

NBC affiliates' weather content is getting a bit richer, as NBC's cable network Weather Channel has joined NBC NewsChannel, the back-end content sharing system that allows participating NBC affiliates to share footage of major breaking news with each other.

NBC affiliates chairman Michael Fiorile calls the system "a collaborative," where a station in the Midwest might grab footage of the major flooding occurring in Georgia. Affiliates nationwide can now get extreme weather footage from Weather Channel through NewsChannel.

"Weather Channel will make their live shots available to affiliates," says Fiorile, while affiliates do the same for Weather.

Contributions / Verizon FiOS Pittsburgh
« on: August 25, 2009, 01:18:45 PM »
Since I can't hook my TV tunder up to my FiOS box, I figured I'd get a few crappy quality videos (better than nothing, right?). To start, here is a LF and a Weatherscan clip. Enjoy!

Note: no idea what happened to the audio. Sorry!

Local Forecast / New Product Playlists (flavors) being tested
« on: May 17, 2009, 09:22:07 PM »
For the past week, my STAR has had new product playlists (the internal name used for what we TWC fans call "flavors") being tested on it. It's not been determined yet whether these changes are final, and a national roll out will occur or not. One of two things may or may not happen tomorrow (Monday) - the playlists will be tested on certain STARs, or they will do a national test. It's really a wait-and-see kind of thing. The biggest changes are outlined below:

-The CC screen no longer starts off each LF. The :08/:38 local starts with the local ob screens.
-When the wx bulletin screen is active, it is the very first screen. Also, this prevents the CC screen from showing during the :18/:48 LF, where the metro CC and regional CC screens are used instead.
-Seeing more of the getaway, air quality, and almanac screens on a regular basis.

General Discussion / Pittsburgh Mayor Changes his Name
« on: January 14, 2009, 06:10:01 PM »
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has legally changed his name, temporarily. This Sunday, the Steelers play the much-hated Baltimore Ravens, and thus his name has transformed from Luke Ravenstahl to Luke Steelerstahl. Pretty creative. :P

General Discussion / What I've been up to Recently
« on: November 13, 2008, 06:52:23 PM »
For the past year, I've been work with school administration officials to create a new public image for the school district. This includes letter head, outdoor traffic signs, posters, and much more. Below is just a sampling of my work. I'll post more later on. I'm responsible for creating, printing and delivering all the materials. In return, I am receiving all my necessary community service hour needed for graduation (a requirement). The plan is that after school is out for the summer, they will hire me full time (8 hour day M-F) to do work for them graphic-related, until I move to college. Pretty neat IMO.

(Thumbnails are clickable)

- 20 poster-size signs displayed throughout the high school

- Lock Policy signs (25) displayed around the high school

- 5 foot sign for one teacher's overused phrase

- 5 long banners for teacher's night

- 3 aluminum signs for outside the high school's back entrance

- 25 aluminum signs for around the high school, both inside and out

- 3 very large separate signs for inside the main office

- another version of the above signs for the guidance office

- certificate for Rookie of the Year

- 100 gift certificates; prizes differed

- 6 large anti-bully pledge posters for signatures

- 30"x30" aluminum sign for outside the athletic fields entrance

- 1 static window cling for outside a high school door

- this project not for the school district, bur rather for local emergency management coordinators. I did 10 of these at 25" big.

Everything Else TWC / Another new show?
« on: October 28, 2008, 08:19:37 PM »
Just saw a promotion for "Cantore Stories," coming to TWC 11/10/08 (IIRC). Not sure yet if this is just a special or if its true long-form programming.

(Try to restrain to songs already featured on TWC. They can be from last month, or from years ago.)
