I was shocked beyond all belief when I turned on the 10:48 AM EST LF at school this morning....

Why in the world do you have access to control a TV at school? I thought schools were for learning?

I have agreements with a couple of my teachers at school to let me watch a couple LFs. Right before 4th hour, my 4th hour teacher allows me to walk in the room and turn on the TV for the 10:48 AM ET LF. My 6th hour teacher also allows me to watch the 1:58 PM ET LF (hence my signature) during 6th hour. The school happens to have cable. Not that big of a deal... and people want to know the weather as well.

Yeah, most schools have cable  (my elementary, middle, and both high schools all had it, and it was only used for educational purposes). I'm not refuting that. What I'm saying is that teachers letting you watch TV is a little ridiculous.  You're in school to learn, not to watch TV, even if it is the weather. You want to know the weather? Watch it in the morning before you leave for school.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast Rebranding Services to "xfinity"

Augusta, Georgia
I know it's a little late to continue this argument... but really? I'm not one of the 11 markets but Augusta GA is?
I'm sure there's a reason, and it's probably because Augusta's system is built very well. And it gives them a chance to test the service in a smaller market.

I have not seen one ad regarding the new name. Still seeing Comcast ads for quote-on-quote "xfinity" services. Since I am obviously not in one of the top 11 media markets, I guess it may be a few months before I start noticing the effects.

Well, obviously. Why would you expect to start seeing the effects now if you aren't in one of the debuting markets?

Haha glad you got the package without paying full price!
hehe thanks :P

Also another thing I should note- even with the usual 1 second delay that my tuner has (compared to my TV), TWC SD is actually 2 or 3 seconds ahead of TWC [HD]. Any idears?

How your cable co transmits the signals. On y FiOS, TWC SD and TWC HD are exactly the same.

There is a sense of immaturity here, and it's uncalled for. It's Martin's site, and he can do what he wants, and use who he wants as an admin. If you don't like it, lump it! Arguing and bickering gets you nowhere.

Yeah, just noticed it in the Lansing State Journal today... not sure this makes any sense to me. What a goofy name, imo

So I noticed that the wikipedia article says services will only be available in 11 Media Markets... obviously meaning Lansing is not included. Does this mean that Comcast will still be shown on my station ID and cable bill? I also wonder if this would make higher internet speeds cheaper...
It's making it's debut in those 11 markets, but will eventually roll out nationwide. As for the station ID, I don't think that will change at all. The company name is still Comcast.

Interesting move. I doubt it will attract new customers. It's mainly to compete with FiOS.

Very  interesting concept! I've read a lot about this scan stuff, mainly with the iPhone though. Neat to see it coming to Android too.

Weather Channel Looks for Customers to 'Scan' App
Feb 3, 2010
-By Mike Shields

The Weather Channel is looking to entice its viewers to start waving their cell phones at their TVs.

The network has launched an innovative new way to distribute its popular application built for Google’s burgeoning Android mobile plaform. Viewers who own an Android-powered mobile device can now instantly download the new app by scanning a barcode that will appear periodically on their TV screens.

Weather will feature the barcode at the 20-minute mark of the shows Day Planner, PM Edition and WeatherCenter. Weather junkies can also retrive the app on the Web by scanning a similar bar code on Weather.com and on several other sites.

Every few years I think..they probably haven't done it recently since all focus has been on the HD STAR.
