FYI - just added a field for HD WxStar ID # for when it becomes widely available, therefore I have renamed the former WxStar ID# to "SD WxStar ID #"

Martin was able to figure out how to have no default selected, that way the area will be blank until you chose your provider. Thanks Martin!

Just a note - I see a few people edited their info, but their cable provider is set to Blue Ridge Communications (the default selection). That area is a radio button area, you must chose the button next to your provider (i.e. if your cable co is Comcast, select the circle next to Comcast).

TWC Today News / Profile Modifications
« on: June 19, 2010, 12:33:37 AM »
I have edited the cable provider, channel number, and WxStar ID number area of the profile fields. Everyone needs to go into their profile and edit their entires. Note that for your ID number, you must omit the zeros, as I have put a 5-character limit on the field (i.e. 22438, not 022438). Also, I have provided a list of cable providers to give the area a more uniform look. Should your provider not be listed, please post here and let me know and I will add it.

If you do not receive TWC|HD or Weatherscan, please leave the fields blank, do not enter N/A.

Questions and comments are welcomed.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Hi guys! Just wanted to check back in with you guys. I haven't posted here in MONTHS; my life has been extremely busy for a while. Mostly school, but that's been over for a few weeks, and I've had some time to relax and I've got some more time on my hands now, which is good. :) I will try to be more active here throughout this summer.

Just wanted to stop by - in case you were worried that I died or something. :P

Welcome back Stephen we all missed you!

It's not a heavily-posted area, and the topics fit just as fine in other areas of the form.

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / IntelliStar 2
« on: June 18, 2010, 11:31:27 PM »
This area has been created with the upcoming launch of the IntelliStar 2 (the HD STAR) in mind. We have made a separate area for Istar 2 discussion that way the STAR Team can get feedback about the STAR all in one place. Please only create topics about the HD STAR here, and no where else on the forum. Thanks for your cooperation.

Until the unit debuts in beta, new topics will be disabled.

Woah, Martin. Great minds think alike! When I get my next paycheck I'm selling my current laptop to my brother and ordering the 15" i7.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New HD LDL

IIRC, CNBC-HD+ uses 4:3 HD programming all the time because they use the right wing area (similar to TWC's LDA) for current stock updates, etc.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

The Tor:con index is basically a glorified version of the tornado forecasting that the SPC comes out with each day. Just another marketing technique NBC has up their sleeves.
   Let me make this very simple: everything is not NBC's fault. And go figure - you're completely wrong about the Tor:Con Index - Dr. Forbes came up with it himself. He's said it numerous times on air and online on the weather.com live chats.

Oh and BTW - if you want to get technical, the Tor:Con index isn't a "marketing" technique, because it doesn't sell anything. It's more or less a branded not-for-profit product.

I'm probably gonna get shot for this, but Laker fans are some of the stupidest people on the planet. "Yah! We won!! Let's break other people's things and get arrested!!" Morons.
They sound just like WVU fans.  :bleh:

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Yeah they've been doing those for years. The content depends on the ad. The ad before it was travel-related, so the IntelliStar showed local airport delays. If it was an allergy ad, the data may have been the air quality or local pollen count.

I was that insane lunatic who gave it a 7
I did to.

On Air/ LF Graphics
Heh, the same reason I gave it a 2! NBC only cares about the advertising and the money, not how much work they put into their graphics.
Its called a business. Please tell me a company that does care. CNN? Fox News?
Thank you!

OCMs & Personalities / Re: New OCM: Steve MacLaughlin
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:12:13 AM »
Yeah, prior to the deal, TWC used live shots courtesy of KDKA (CBS) and KDKA reporters during severe weather events in the Pittsburgh area. Now they always use the WPXI (NBC) towercam.

Yeah, that's the general idea apparently. TWC has featured live shots from (and mentioned) KXAS many a time, so I am not at all surprised to see someone from that station coming on-board.
Well I would hope they are getting live reports from NBC affiliates and not CBS or ABC affiliates since after all they are owned by NBC.

I believe that when NBC took ownership, TWC discontinued any agreements with non-NBC affiliates.
