General Discussion / Re: Comcast Shows Porn During Super Bowl

I think they do this on purpose. In recent memory - they've interrupted channels (including Disney in one instance) in other markets with porn (once in the Boston area and once in New Jersey, IIRC).

OCMs & Personalities / Re: More layoffs - 4 OCM'S axed

I was just thinking, could this second-round OCM axe be making way for WeatherPlus meteorologists to migrate onto TWC?

Ew, no. That's what my phone is for. And when I'm at home, the nice, big, yellow numbers on my cable box will do. :D

Honestly, schools have a better chance of students (and faculty) showing up with a delay than they otherwise would. It has nothing to do with if we win or not - just about everyone around here will stay up to watch the whole game.

that never happened here in Massachusetts during the Patriots super bowl years
People never skipped or went late to work or school the Monday following the Superbowl? Riiiiiight.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Quote
Superintendent Mark Roosevelt (Pittsburgh Public Schools) is no fan of delaying or canceling school even in bad weather, but he said there was no reason to ignore the Super Bowl's effect on school operations. Asked whether he feared student and staff absences, he said he hoped the delay would help mitigate any problem.

The district also opened two hours late on the day after the Steelers won Super Bowl XL three years ago.

Most schools in this neck of the woods have announced delays already for Monday due to the Superbowl. This includes Pittsburgh Public Schools (intercity schools), which may even end up canceling school because of the Downtown parade.

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: January 29, 2009, 07:58:09 AM »
Maybe the reason why these STARs still have the traffic incidents/traffic flow narration is because of the fact that the traffic overview map isn't available for those locations.
That's exactly the reason. Locations with overview maps only get overview narration. Headends without the overview map get narration for the traffic flow and incident pages.

well i thought the overview maps were pulled for maintenance, have some ISTARs gotten them back?
They were pulled out of the majority of markets because the maps didn't have enough digital data, making them less accurate. They only remained in major markets - NYC, DC, LA, MSP, DFW, San Francisco/Oakland, Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Houston, Boston, Seattle, Tampa, Philadelphia, and a few others.

Some of the markets where the maps were removed include - San Antonio, Miami, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, Nashville, Providence RI, Richmond VA, Hartford CT, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Louisville, etc.

so basically we're not gettin them back? well that sucks. i liked the overview maps.

Once Traffic Pulse adds more digital routes to your market, then you'll get it back. But I don't know when that will be. However, they're constantly expanding. They add roads here all the time.

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Segments
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:30:18 PM »
The Ski forecast was added to my Weatherscan today, I don't think I have ever had that segment before.

It's quite possible the segment was supposed to be there all along, and it was just disabled. They might of recently pulled the unit up to make a change or reset it and saw the ski package was off and enabled it.
