I just saw Eddie Murphy's Party All the Time on VH1 Soul. This was played on TWC back in the '80s.   :rofl2:

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Peter Lik Joins The Weather Channel
« on: May 22, 2011, 01:12:50 PM »
So why does Peter Lik's show warrant showing a transparent TWC logo with no LDL? I guess an LDL would distract from the pictures, but I still want my weather information. :hammer:

Sadly, I have the feeling that this is the beginning of the future.  With time, The Weather Channel will become a weather-themed documentary/entertainment network, and the days of actual weather information will become a thing of the past.  Just because "Flick and a Forecast" failed during its first incarnation doesn't mean that movies won't return again to TWC.  I think they will.  And then cheesy sitcoms will be next.

I look back with nostalgia and sadness to the days when every cable network had its own unique niche.  Now, every network seems to be more or less the same as every other, with just a hint of its own uniqueness remaining.

Unless it's Sunday night, a weekday afternoon, and unless there is a major weather event, you are hard-pressed to get any consistent and/or constant forecast. This Peter Lik show is as stupid an idea as Flick and a Forecast. There isn't a damn thing to do with weather on this show. All it is is some guy showing off his photography skills. But it is true, most networks nowadays don't continue  their original intent or purpose. MTV doesn't show videos at all, except for a few hours on weekday mornings. Discovery and TLC have basically become Reality Central now. I hope I'm wrong, but actual weather information is getting increasingly phased out, and it may reach a point that the LOT8s are the only type of forecast there is on TWC.  With the way TWC is going, it wouldn't shock me that even that may be endangered.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Why is everyone so obsessed with the end of the world anyway?  I'm a Christian, but I believe that God has full control over it.  None of us know when it'll happen.  Besides, shouldn't we all be focusing on today and how to make the world a little better for all of us?  That's at least what I was taught to believe. :dunno:

I agree. I am a firm believer and follower of Jesus Christ, too. None of us know when the world will end, and we can't put an arbitrary date on it. Only the Lord knows when that time is.

Local Forecast / Rainbow Seeker II by Joe Sample
« on: May 18, 2011, 01:04:22 AM »
Does anyone know exactly the years that Joe Sample's Rainbow Seeker No. 2 aired on TWC? Not the original version, but the slowed down, Latin-like version on his Sample This album. I remember hearing it in 2001, but I also remember hearing it on a few occasions from about 2005 to 2008, I think.

General Discussion / Re: Fall TV Shows Officially Cancelled
« on: May 18, 2011, 01:00:20 AM »
To be quite honest, I watch reruns of old shows more that I watch the network TV shows nowadays. They don't appeal to me much again.  :noexpression: The best time for network TV was in the 90s and early 2000s, IMO.

Revised Best and Worst

Best:

Morning: Guilt, Ascension, Ain't No Stoppin' Us, Riders of the Ancient Winds, Fun to Be Happy (hadn't heard it on TWC since 2001)
Daytime: Everything except Boney James songs
Primetime: Guyute, Checkin' You Out, Footsteps, Fun to Be Happy, Papa Was a Rolling Stone
Overnight: A River Runs East

Worst:

Morning: Toss the Feathers (annoying, overplayed, overused.  )
Daytime: Both Boney James songs. Not bad, but too slow for daytime.
Primetime: Jurassic Park theme. Why must TWC insist on playing John Williams theme music?  <_<
Ovenight: None
