Programming and Graphics / Re: "Flick > Forecast"
« on: May 28, 2010, 12:45:55 PM »
I really don't care for Flick and a Forecast. I have not watched it, and I don't think I will. Who wants to see movies on the Weather Channel?!  I grew up in the 90s, and sometimes I would spend hours watchin TWC instead of cartoons, because I was fascinated with with their weather coverage, and I loved their music. Now, on weekends, you virtually can't see any sort weather coverage except for the morning. There's Flick and a Forecast, and then there's all that other programming like Storm Chasers and Tornado.  I was pleasantly surprised last week to see that TWC actually pushed aside their programming to show coverage of the tornados.

This morning on the R&B Classics channel on Music Choice, I heard Soul Finger by the Bar-Kays, and I heard This Place Hotel, but it was the original version by the Jacksons.  :D

* Mike M is ready for the next playlist
me too. I hope next playlist doesn't has a lot of repeats and primetime needs to get better.

I'm not holding my breath about primetime. Primetime hasn't been good since July 2009.    I definitely hope there isn't anymore repeats, but seeing the recent track record of TWC, there are going to be repeats. The only repeats from the last year I'd like to hear again are This Place Hotel from Marcus Johnson, Psyche by Tony Davilio, and King of the Burgs by Lettuce.    Thumper by Aangel is pretty cool too.

* Mike M is ready for the next playlist

It's already been a full two months that the playlist has been running. The new playlist should air any day now between today and the first week of June.

Best
Morning: Absolute Magnitude by Chris Geith
Daytime: 30-A Degrees by Michael J. Thomas
Primetime: Songbird by Ryan Farish
Overnight: Come bye me by Andre L. Parker

Worst
Morning: none
Daytime: nothing but love by Boney James (last used a couple moths ago)
Primetime/Overnight: Freddie Freeloader by miles Davis

Nothing But Love is not the worst song, but it is way overplayed. It has been used 4 of the 5 months in the year so far.  :dunno: The worst song on primetime is Hedwig's Theme by far. It really does not fit the Weather Channel.

Wayman Tisdale is on bass?! It definitely does sound like him. I love his music  :D RIP Wayman Tisdale.

This is probably my first-ever post in here (I'm just a reader who wants info on TWC stuff) but I want to give a "heads-up" that the song on the daytime playlist entitled "Argentina" by Darryl Williams (and listed as unavailable) is in fact titled by the artist as "Costa Rica" and is from his CD "That Was Then"... and it is very much available on Amazon etc. Which is a good thing because it's about the only worthwhile song on this playlist IMO. Doesn't it seem like the best songs lately always seem to be the "unavailable" ones?  :(

I don't give up on the songs I like without a fight.  :club: Glad I found that one and hope someone else wants it too!

I found this awhile back. It's retitled for licensing reasons. I like that song too, it has Wayman tisdale on bass

What I meant to say is that they used to play it on Jammin Oldies 101.5 FM. That used to be around I think from 1998 to 2002 or 2003. I have heard Rockit during the old school mix on Saturday nights on WTMP 96.1 FM/1150 AM.

I have heard Rockit a million times on oldies stations.
Really? I would expect WRBQ to play it on their "disco party nights", but haven't heard it.

Btw, I heard The Beetlejuice theme, which was from the 10/31/09 special playlist, on TMZ last night.

Tavores, thanks for clarifying that on Songbird and Let it Rain, I thought it was just me feeling as if those were the only two songs on the primetime daypart lol.
LOL count me in. Nothin But Love by Boney James was brought back from January/February 2010 and that list felt like forever. I think TWC really needs to focus more into the smooth jazz genre because I can't just see them continuing with this selection. I count at least 16-17 songs in this playlist that were used on a previous playlist. Back in 2008 and early 2009 (except March) there were few repeated songs because most of the music was new smooth jazz music and a bit of Ryan Farish from time to time. The extra dayparts just puts an extra burden as to how many songs are used, the types, etc.

There are farrrrrr too many repeats. Not only do I mean repeats in terms of former playlist songs, but songs that play several times in a row. Last week, I heard Toss the Feathers play at least 6 times in the morning. And I completely agree that they should play smooth jazz, and not just the typical run-of-the-mill smooth jazz like Boney James. I don't understand TWC's aversion to playing smooth jazz during primetime. I rarely listen to primetime, because all I hear are theme songs and rock.

I heard both Soulful Strut and Morning Dance play yesterday on WSJT 98.7.
I'm getting sick of WSJT. They're phasing out the jazz.

Yeah I notice that. They have become an urban contemporary  or even oldies station. I heard Carribean Queen by Billy Ocean yesterday too. Love that song, but what is remotely jazzy about that song? :dunno:

Overall its a solid playlist. :)
Really? One of the most boring, terrible playlists ever imo.

I think it's clear TWC needs to switch back to all smooth jazz. It's clear there aren't enough instrumental rock songs for TWC to play. And please enough Chris Geith and Ryan Farish!
Well personally Ive heard worst. I guess solid is a bit strong but I dont feel its the worst. I agree. TWC seriously needs to relook at its choice of music selection. Its attempt to reach a broad audience is a poor one at best

Yes, I wish they'd drop this instrumental rock and pop and soundtrack stuff.  They need to stick to jazz completely. Or at least 90% of the songs should be jazz. I also wish they'd extend the daytime playlist to 7 or 8pm, since that is when the best (meaning smooth jazz) songs are on. It is hard to hear the complete list in the daytime, because with all that Tornado! and Storm Stories programming, on afternoons after 2pm, all you'd hear is 1 min LOT8s or sometimes none.
