You could have it repaired, but if it's not under warranty, the cost of the repair depends on what the problem is. Otherwise, your only real option is to buy a new unit. It's very hard to find VCRs for sale without DVD players these days.
Before you posted that, I was just looking around my house earlier today to see if I could find an old VCR/DVD combo, and I found one, hooked it up to my recorder, tested a VHS tape, and it still works

I'll just go ahead use the external VCR from now on to digitize any VHS tapes I still have

until my recorder should ever break down completely, but I doubt that'll happen in the near future
