General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:47:41 AM »
While cleaning out my closet this evening, I found this signed photograph of Jim Cantore:

Back in 2005, I wrote a letter to Cantore saying that I was a fan of The Weather Channel and enjoyed watching him cover hurricanes, storms, and other extreme weather on TV. A few weeks after I sent my letter, I received an envelope which contained this photo that Cantore signed and said "Thanks for watching!"

Note the name James at the top left corner of the photo. That's my birth name and what I went by back in '05. Nowadays I prefer to go by Jim.  :P

I've just about had it with "winter" where I am. All season long I've been under a lot of high wind watches and warning it's been driving me crazy. Even last night the high winds kept blowing against my house I barely got any sleep!

IMO I would much rather see new episodes of "Storm Stories" and "It Could Happen Tomorrow" than watch shows about people fishing, gold-digging and other non-weather related whatnot.

Also wouldn't mind seeing new episodes of that Peter Lik show from 2011. I really liked all of the landscape pics that Lik took  :)  plus I happen to have all 13 episodes on DVD which I recorded from TV a couple of years ago.

52º Overcast

My area's under yet another High Wind Watch from tomorrow night through Thursday morning. I've been under way too many high wind watches and warnings this season.   Is it summer yet?

As of this afternoon, my STAR's regional radar map has been updated:

Hoquiam and Olympia have been removed, and Ocean Park, Seaside, and Goldendale have been added. I've yet to see what the local radar map looks like.

EDIT: The local radar map was also changed:

Vernonia, Cannon Beach, South Bend and Cathlamet have been removed, and Castle Rock has been added.

Why is it that sometimes my TV guide will show on one channel "[Channel Name] Programming" for a few hours? Example: On Comedy Central it says "Comedy Central Programming" from 6AM to 4PM this Tuesday. Is my cable headend really that lazy to obtain listings for TV shows that will air throughout a particular programming block?

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: DirecTV Dropping TWC

Didn't Dish Network also drop TWC?

They almost did drop the channel back in 2010 when they launched The Weather Cast (a precursor to WeatherNation) which was intended to replace The Weather Channel because of a carriage dispute at the time. However, an agreement was reached between the two parties and TWC was never removed from Dish's lineup. The Weather Cast, on the other hand, was discontinued after being on the air for four days.

I just love the sound of frogs croaking at night, especially during this time of year when they come out of hibernating imp.

"A Great Day For Freedom" by Pink Floyd. Such a nice song IMO, especially the second half.

The jokes have returned to my IS welcome screen as I just saw one at 4:28PM PT. Not sure why my IS was just showing only "This is your weather" earlier today.  :dunno:
