Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I find it interesting that my Charter headend continues to use an IntelliSTAR 1, even though it's now been 5 days after TWC's supposed 'deadline' to replace all IS1s with either the IS2 XD or the IS2 Jr.  Since Astoria and other IS1 headends do have until November 16th to get a replacement unit (as TWC's letter stated) I guess Charter decided they wanted to keep their IS1 up and running a little longer. :P

Now it is October 1st, and my IS1 still remains in existence. After all, didn't TWC's memo clearly state that all new IS2 XD/Jr units "must be installed by October 1, 2015 to ensure seamless activation with no disruption to service"?  Given that the memo also says all IS1s will be discontinued no later than November 16th, I wonder if TWC extended the deadline for headends such as mine who still haven't gotten replacements to get their new equipment soon.

You know I wouldn't be a bit surprised if October 1st came and my Intellistar 1 is still here, considering my headend still hasn't purchased an Intellistar 2 and TWC is pretty unpredictable these days.

You and me both! I too wouldn't be so surprised if my IS1 lived past October 1st, although in the memo released to headends it said that the IS1 service would be discontinued no later than November 16th. My headend still does not have the IS2 HD yet either.

I wonder if this will turn out like when the legacy STAR units (WSJr, 4000, XL) went out of service past May 31st of last year because many headends didn't yet have the IS2 Jr at that time, and it took about a month after the initial deadline for the legacy units to be retired and decommissioned. Depending on what happens (as you mentioned how unpredictable TWC can be) maybe the remaining IS1s will be retired later than this Thursday's initial deadline. Who knows? :dunno:

There appears to be no holiday graphics today (first day of Autumn) on both the local and satellite LFs. The holiday countdown wheel was dropped from yesterday's sidebar graphics updates so I'm guessing that could explain why.

The satellite sidebar also has updated graphics (and yes, my Charter headend STILL does not have an IS2 yet).

From land prowling fish to giant predatory reptiles and more... adventurer and EXPLORER Sean Duggan treks to the most remote stretches of the globe in search of mysterious creatures that have adapted to extreme weather and environments in new series, "Natural Born Monsters." In each episode, Duggan makes it his mission to unearth these fascinating creatures and investigate how weather came to shape both the wild claims around their existence and the wild beasts themselves.

I thought we stopped green-lighting these shows

Hmm, I could have sworn I've heard of that show's coming weeks ago, before the release of the memo regarding the major programming changes. I don't remember where I saw that info unfortunately. Hopefully this is the last "weather" show to be greenlighted.

I heard Candy Dulfer's "Lily Was Here" at a local Goodwill store yesterday.

Sorry for double-posting BTW.

The Game Room / Re: "In my pants" Game

I agree. TWC's decline accelerated then when the locals were cut to 1 min and they replaced the music + added even more longform.
You forgot the "in my pants" part in your post imp.  ;) :P

(And you forgot it too.  :whistling:)

I am watching...something...in my pants... :noexpression:

I didn't, the "imp" at the end of my post is an acronym for "in my pants" in case you were wondering imp.  ;) :P

Hi everyone. I am Nova.
It's great to find a forum centered around both The Weather Channel and Weather. I have been watching the channel  ever since I was little. Also, if you could tell by my custom title, I am also a fan of video games, which I have also been playing since I was a kid. I am hoping to have a great time here.

Welcome to the forums Nova!   I hope you have a great time here as well.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Weather Channel for Sale
« on: September 14, 2015, 04:23:05 PM »
Personally, I don't see Fox being interested in purchasing The Weather Channel. My best guess would be the two parties' different views on climate change: TWC talks a lot about the subject matter, while the mostly conservative-owned Fox (and of course Fox News) denies the existence of it. It's probably some other reason, but the climate change opinions would be a best guess.

163
Hmm... I wonder if these programming changes may bring back the 90-second and 2-minute LF flavors. I'm very doubtful on that possibility, but we may never know what TWC will do next.

I heard "Take A Walk" once again, this time at a Beaverton, Oregon-area grocery store two days ago.
