Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Central 2011
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:57:51 AM »
I originally had my target point for landfall as Wilmington, NC; but I have widened it to include Miami, FL; Key West, FL; and all of Puerto Rico.

Tropical Depression 91L

But it's not yet a tropical depression.  It's a tropical wave.
Yeah I know. My Tropical Director said thats what he wants it to be in all of our text products today, and I have to answer to him... So, I have no choice.  :fire:

If he has no qualifications, then he is technically providing false information. I would not listen to him...

Gotta love technical issues...

UPDATED...COMMUNICATIONS PROBLEMS HAVE LIMITED THE AMOUNT OF DATA
RECEIVED FROM THE AIR FORCE RESERVE AIRCRAFT INVESTIGATING THE
ELONGATED AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 500 MILES EAST OF THE
NORTHERN WINDWARD ISLANDS.  HOWEVER...REPORTS FROM THE AIRCRAFT
...ALONG WITH SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS...INDICATE
THAT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT YET HAVE A WELL-DEFINED SURFACE
CIRCULATION.  A SECOND AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAS FORMED
TO THE WEST OF THE MAIN DISTURBANCE...AND WILL BRING LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL AND GUSTY WINDS TO PORTIONS OF THE LESSER ANTILLES
TONIGHT.  CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR A
TROPICAL DEPRESSION OR TROPICAL STORM TO FORM...AND THIS SYSTEM HAS
A HIGH CHANCE...NEAR 100 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE
DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD NEAR 15
MPH.  IF THE SYSTEM BECOMES A TROPICAL CYCLONE TONIGHT OR MONDAY
...TROPICAL STORM WATCHES OR WARNINGS WOULD BE ISSUED FOR PORTIONS
OF THE NORTHERN WINDWARD ISLANDS AND THE LEEWARD ISLANDS ON VERY
SHORT NOTICE...AND INTERESTS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR
THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.  ANOTHER HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS
SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THIS SYSTEM MONDAY MORNING.

4:28PM PT.

I'm surprised no one said anything about this sighting yet
I think I saw this one.  It was playing and I was like "heh, Trammell Starks, good to hear him "

What exactly are we talking about?? If it were Trammell, shouldn't it have gone into the Trammell Sightings thread?

Holy cow, does it. I remember the episode where they were crab fishing out in a wicked storm, and a really strong wind gust dislodged a steel hook and slammed it right into a guy's nose. The weather is really brutal out there.

I don't care much for that show, and I would definitely not want to see it on TWC

General Discussion / Re: Weather Dreams
« on: July 30, 2011, 12:33:03 PM »
I actually had a weather related dream last night...

So I dreamt that I was in Hurricane Katrina. I still lived in Southaven, but Southaven was a suburb of New Orleans, NOT Memphis. I remember dreaming that I was recording clips of the IntelliStar v3 (non-existant at the time of Katrina) with a 'Hurricane Local Statement' scrolling at the bottom of the screen. After the LF ended, I remember Bryan Norcross tracking the storm...but TWC was using their current Lower Thirds and Graphics (this was supposed to be based in 2005, mind you). I remember watching the clouds roll in. The funny thing was that there was never any wind or rain, even though the IntelliStar was reporting Heavy Rain and Windy Conditions. Another funny thing was that hardly no one evacuated. Everyone was outside looking at the clouds.

This dream was rather weird, since I remember the FULL dream and I know exactly what triggered the dream...I was up until 10 PM CT watching TWC's Hurricane Coverage on YouTube.

They changed back to the 2005 music as seen in the video below.

Storm Alert on TWC because of DON?

You have to at least equalize the show volume and the music volume. ;) Also, the freeze at the beginning of the LF is the same as in the video that you posted earlier. Also, that isn't even Storm Alert Music. This is.

Hey there STAR Team,

I don't really watch WeatherScan that often, but upon tuning in today, I noticed something.

This is the lineup:
Memphis>Golf>Memphis>Travel>Airport>Memphis>Health>Garden>Golf>Radar>Travel

I noticed that on most Weatherscan Units that there are multiple cities, while ours just repeats Memphis over and over. Was this requested by our headend, or could it be changed? If it can be changed, can Germantown, West Memphis, and Southaven be added? This way it will match up with our LDL.

I also noticed that there are 2 airports, Memphis International and McKellar Sipes Regional Airport, in the Airport segment, but only Memphis International is featured on the Airport "Now" scroll at the bottom of the screen. Is it possible to add McKellar Sipes Regional Airport to that scroll?

Also, sorry for all of the recent request that I have been posting. :itsok:

Thanks in advance STAR Team. I realize if this request can not be fulfilled.

Provider: XFINITY
City: Memphis

Invest 91 is definitely one to watch. Look at this intensity model! (132 hours = 5 days, which would be Tuesday).

Computer models only have it around Guadeloupe by then, so it will have tons of time to strengthen. We're talking a Category 1 by then!

I'm gonna jump the gun here and predict landfall around Wilmington, NC.

HD/SD Satellite LDLs are now red as of 4:52 PM ET.

That's a strange choice, unless it was a glitch.  I seem to recall something about red satellite LDLs a few months ago.

You don't remember from last year? They turn them red for any tropical development. IIRC, it was red for Earl last year.
