Hurricane Central / Re: 2011 Atlantic hurricane retirement predictions
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:41:35 AM »
IIRC, they are retired when they get a lot of publicity and effect land. For instance, if we would have kept Katrina this year, everyone would think back to 2005, and MS and LA. IMO, Irene will be retired.

Anyway, TS Warning in effect from LA/TX border to MS/AL border. Expected to stay as a storm, and make landfall in south-central LA.

You're seeming a bit rude about this, Austin. We had no idea, and were just going by what the NHC said. You don't have to have an attitude about it...

I didn't say it wasn't true, I said that the NHC hadn't reported it.

NHC isn't reporting it. None of the stations that I am looking at are reporting it...

Speaking of Labor Day Weekend, I will be heading to Bemis, TN (just South of Jackson) to visit my dad's side of the family. If you're into history, you will want to check out this website about Bemis. My Great-Grandfather (whom I never met) worked at that cotton mill, and my Great-Grandmother and the rest of his family lived in Bemis (the town was constructed specifically for cotton millers' families). Anyway, getting to the point now...can you tell I love history? :P

Anyway, I haven't been since I was 7 (when my Great-Grandmother passed). The houses are very well constructed to have been built in the early 1900's. We will be staying at a hotel in North Jackson (near the church where we have dinner every time that we meet there). We would normally stay at my Great-Grandmother's house, but since she passed the house has been rented out. I will try to get some pictures, as they have a really awesome, old water tower (on the website that I linked to above); and again, some really well-constructed buildings. Just to give you an idea of how long it's been...I last saw my cousin Luke and my aunt and uncle at my Great-Grandmother's funeral. He was 12 at the time, and he is now 17 and driving! I am looking forward to visiting my dad's side of the family, being that most of my mom's side of the family lives local, but my dad's side lives a few hours away; so I don't see them as much. We will be leaving Saturday Morning and returning Sunday Night, which will mean limited activity on the forum. Again, we are staying at a hotel...so if they have the IntelliStar, I will definitely get some clips.

I think I got a bit carried away. Oh well. :P

Why did you make a whole new topic? A new post in the Irene thread would do just as good...

Longform: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY ON THE AIR???"

Actually covering the situation: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY SHOWING THE LF???"

So, you guys are :cry3: either way.

Did anybody see those IDIOTS that drove up waving on air during Eric's live shot? He got really pissed off about that saying how stupid they were being for being out in the storm.

I think this would have been a much funnier situation:

*Eric talking about how people are stupid for driving in Irene, those idiots drive up*
Eric: "Well, let's use these lovely people as an example" :P

I'm not sure that there is a map of one, but I know that I am smack-dab under one. If the New Madrid fault were to fracture, it is expected that New Madrid, MO would feel a 8.0; Memphis, TN would feel a 6.0, and I would feel a 5.0; and that it could be felt as far away as Boston. I have my camera setting on my desk at all times for a reason!

Speaking of which, it's coming up on the 200th anniversary of the 1811-1812 series of earthquakes, which is why a lot of people around here are predicting a quake.
