Wow, that whole last segment at 10:30 CT pretty much fell apart. They had Sharon's implementation of Titan stuck on the Hurricane Advisories for Gustav, and Rich's Titan was stuck on a satellite image of Gustav, so Rich wound up just stalling by talking about Gastav and Hannah until they could get to break to sort things out. I have to love the way Rich responds to technical difficulties...

Sharon: Rich, are you going to be able to talk about Hannah?

Rich: *shrugs shoulders* Weeeellll....maybe, maybe not. It doesn't looooook like it.

Basically it seems they're using the rigid criteria of cat 3 (or a cat 2 affecting a major city) in order to go into Storm Alert. Given the reduced weekend OCM staff, they would most likely have to bring in one or two weekday teams (or maybe folks like Warren and Ryan) to cover some hours if they're in Storm Alert on Sunday.

BTW, has Ryan Goswick been in HD yet?

Alex mainly does the video forecasts on weather.com; his TV appearances are pretty much during the low ratings hours since he's not that experienced.

Things are really starting to get down to business tonight; it's not very often at all that you see weekday EE start with a live teaser and opener. (with the teaser strangely following the opener)

There's been a little bit of coverage of the severe weather from what I can tell, but the Tropics are indeed overflowing the network. (perhaps rightfully so) Luckily it's only sprinkling here while the severe wx has so far stayed off to the west.

Alex Wallace is up next to fill in for Nick Walker. Is this his HD debut?

Where do you live? (and who are you, again?)

Wow, Gastav's track and forecast strength is pretty much worst case scenario right now, and now there's Hanna out there that's forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday and then head toward the east coast of the US by late next week. Could this be a double week of hell for the U.S., and dare I say it, a double Storm Alert week? Has that ever happened for two different storms before?

Yes, Dr. Cullen is still around for Forecast Earth reports, and the host's name is Natalie Allen.

I noticed today that they finally put Weather Center logos in the projector wall divider instead of simply using a standardized divider like they did when the show first moved to the HD studio. Anyone know when this happened?

Tonight on A&B, they aired a Forecast Earth special report featuring Stu Ostro doing his part of the report from an area just behind the old studio 1B desk with the Global Forecast Center in the background. It's been a long time since we've seen that! :P

On another note from today, during her on-air hours today, Vivian used the old configuration of Titan/Skytracker that displays warnings by county and as solids instead of as outlines, exactly as it used to be. I don't think that's exactly a sensible way to configure Titan because that's not how warnings are issued nowadays. I also have to wonder if the satellite LFs (SD and HD) will ever be changed to display warning polygons instead of counties.

For some reason, TWC decided to assign Mike Bettes to do the updates on Gustav during this last hour of PME. I wonder what the thinking behind that was...

Something's really broken with the Satellite LF computer today. I actually recorded this afternoon, and when the problem first started, there was music from the regular playlist, but the video was all blue with occasional gray/black horizontal bars. After a few LFs, the video changed to gray static during some LFs and green static during others. After an hour or two, the video came back, but now there's no audio, so they continue to switch to the emergency feed a few seconds into each LF.

That probably wasn't the jib camera; it was probably the camera on the overhead track, which tends to be horribly shaky when in motion. The jib is usually fluid in motion from what I've seen.
